SNES black switch variant?

My dad sent me some video game stuff he found in the dump, including 2 SNES systems, one of which has black switches:





They're black all the way around so it's not UV damage.  I googled a bit and couldn't find any info on this variant.  Are these replacement parts?

    Purple buttons left in sunlight for too long.

    Looking at it under a different light source they do look a little purple, so I guess you're right. Under fluorescent lighting they looked completely black.

    On Facebook someone posted to ask about a Pokemon N64 controller that looked almost black. The sides still showed some of the original color so it was determined that the color had shifted, much like a yellowed console. I do wonder if the same treatment will work.

    Drop them into some hydrogen peroxide and they'll come out like new.
