How hard are you going to work to upgrade the rest to 8/10 do you think?
Probably casually. I literally have bought and replaced copies 3/4 times on some games as I get them and they are usually worse than shown or described so not able to upgrade them easily in a lot of instances. As I see minty ones ill grab them but wont hunt as of now.
Sweet. Love that you actually collected the unlicensed games too. Once upon a time they were required for a set. Then a licensed set got a designation. Then a licensed set minus SE. Nes collecting has gotten more and more dumbed down over the years. Good on you for doing it right.
I think what you're referring to is people who want to claim the accomplishment of completing a set without having to drop $20,000 on a few critical "capstone" pieces that are both extremely difficult to find, and jaw-droppingly expensive. I'dbe willing to bet that if the total pricetag for SE and all the Panesians, 6-in-1s etc was $500 and not $15-20k, everybody would consider them a part of a truly complete set. I can sympathize with those people, I nervously gulp at obtaining marquee collection items that are 1/10 of that cost. I wouldn't say that NES collecting has become dumbed down over the years, it's just become insanely expensive for completionists.
yeah that's a big reason why I don't want to go for an nes set. Stuff like Panesians, 6 in 1s and Cheetahmen 2 are the most interesting pieces, it's a shame people don't go after them, but that price tag though
Congrats! It's such and awesome feeling. I was so ecstatic when I completed my loose set (minus SE) a few months ago.
Its funny I've been a completionist most of my life when it came to collecting both games and other stuff, and I always thought angels would trumpet the completion of whatever collecting quest I was on, but when it was done... it was a bit of a letdown really.
These past few years I've come to not really give a krepe about whether some collecting quest is complete or not. I still have those tendencies but I have an easier time letting go.

Right, perhaps dumbed down wasn't the best way to put it. But I also mean there's been a shift toward licensed only over the entire set. Over the past 10 years the exceedingly rarer games have skyrocketed to unbelievable prices, but the unlicensed rares have been passed up by SE in the process. Back when a CIB SE was still under $1000 in open auction, some of the unlicensed titles went for much more CIB.

Well, when was that? I wasn't collecting until 02 but the benchmark on a cib SE in 2003 was 1800 dollars. The unlicensed were nowhere close at the time. I don't remember any unlicensed breaking 1k until myriad did and that was definitely later.
i agree with the main point that there has been a shift towards licensed but so far as I know, remember, and have been told , SE was always more valuable than myriad etc. The price on a complete myriad didn't pass 1k until 06 or so. I sold brveheart onefor 1200 here on the forums at that time. Cib SE was a good 2.5-3k by then
Really? I guess my mind is playin' tricks on me or perhaps I'm interchanging cart only prices with CIBs. I'm thinking back to around that time, early aughts or so, and I seem to remember some of the unlicensed carts as being almost mythic due to rarity while SE was considered a big deal, but not nearly at the same level as say, a Myriad or some of the Panesians.
Idk, my whole point originally was that it's awesome to see a guy nearly complete a collection like this and include the unlicensed games because that just seems like something that most NES collectors don't have nearly as much interest nowadays as licensed sets have become the standard.
Congrats!! I thought for sure you would have been done by now with how aggressive you were back in 2010ish. I still miss my Samson and still haven't replaced it. Crazy what has happened with it. My NES collection has been a time capsule since then and had rarely been increased
I feel like a CIB SE is one of those things where even if you found such a good deal that it was basically "free", it would be pretty tough not to just flip it and move on, rather than keep so much value tied up in a single easily-destructable physical item in the house
(so you could say for the time between acquisition and selling it again that you had a complete set )
That's why I suggest a communal Stadium Events. Everyone pitches in a few bucks, everyone claims it as part of their set, and it's kept at a secure location*. That way, everyone wins.
*my house
LOL I like this it can be the Nintendoage time share stadium events.
Congrats on the collection OP looks really nice.
I get the first week. No need to check the board when i pass it along

Preach on brother, the struggle is fuckin' real.

Has to feel good having the set done
Catastrophes aside, congrats man!
Impressive! Congrats!
