How many people here have completed sets?

  • One and done.
  • I voted one and done for my NES licensed set, but that's a lie since I don't have Stadium Events and likely won't ever have it. I still have a bunch of unlicensed NES games left as well. I'm not interested in any other complete sets, though I may decide to finish Virtual Boy someday since I only need Jack Bros and Waterworld.
  • CIB N64 and CIB Virtual Boy, so I guess that's two, haha.

Are you far from the SNES set? I remember seeing pics of your collection with all those glorious CIBs.

  • Working on NES, SNES, and N64. I collect GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Cube, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Genesis, Sega CD, and Saturn, but am not really actively buying sports titles or shovelware for those.

None of them will ever happen though. I'm not paying out for MBR/SR, SE, or Sculptor's Cut
  • Just finished my N64 set posted a few threads below this one, and I have one major transaction left to complete my sealed/CIB Virtual Boy NTSC, Japanese, and unlicensed sets. I think when all is said and done there will be 54 Virtual Boy CIBs in total, which is pretty wild since the NTSC set only has 14 games lol.

didn't realize there were that many VB games with imports included. Didn't even know there were unlicensed VB games. That set would look badass! And yeah I saw your thread about n64, that was part of the inspiration to start this one

I'm getting close now, just one more bulk deal in progress for the remainder of the Japanese set and it'll be finished. I'm eager to complete the set, but I'm also savouring what time I have as an active collector for that particular system.

Like Bronty said, the cherubs don't trumpet your triumph the way you hope they will during the build-up of a complete collection, and I think that may be due to the bittersweetness of the fact that something you totally loved doing for a long time is over, and you won't be doing it anymore. Sure you can start over on something else or expand on what you've already built, but completionists will (usually) start with their favourite systems, and work their way down the pecking order from there. For many, this is an NES site, NES is where the heart is at, and once you've completed an NES set, that's it, "your first love is over, ooh baby, and you'll never have another summer like that again". Don't get me wrong, it's still totally awesome to complete a set, and it's awesome to share it here, post a thread about it, and run down the aisle like the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 6, high-fiving all the NintendoAge bros on the way by. It's just that once that last box is on the shelf and it's time to move on to something else, there's definitely a feeling of "damn, I'm proud of my accomplishment... but it sucks that that's over" that at least I wasn't expecting.
  • Homebrews! It will be complete, come never.
  • Working on my first and about to be 'one and done' with the Wii U.
  • Completed a bunch of sets, but I'm crazy. I'm working towards Wii right now... 97% done with it. It's a huge crazy set to go for and has been alot of fun.
  • I don't have enough time, space or money to go for full sets unfortunately. I am happy owning just the games I like to play.

Screenshotted for lols in ten years when you have shelves full of complete CIB collections lining the walls

Do you have a thread with pics in it, or do you plan to create one when you're finally finished with the set?

I don't at the moment.  Over in the Finders Keepers section I've been posting my Wii finds, but thats about it.  Once I'm done with the set I'll do a big write up with pics. I'll mention my process of it, the rare games, ect.

  • I have a full NA Sega Saturn set, and about 75% finished with Dreamcast. Games are expensive.
  • I'm well on my way to a CIB SNES set minus a few of the heavy hitters (including the heaviest hitter in MBR/SR). I've gotta be somewhere in the 400's-500's by now. I started out with the intention of cart/box/manual only but have started to lean towards wanting game-specific posters too. I'm very aware it's a slippery slope and will add to the cost(!) and time tremendously. The paper for many SNES games is actually 100x pricier (and harder to find) then the games themselves! Why spend 700$+ on a Aero Fighters poster when I could spend that instead on upgrading my PC, or a new street bike, clothes or shoes, etc. It's a tough pill to swallow. I love the hobby but at some point the price DOES become prohibitive. (It also doesn't help that there are many douchey guys who have been cornering the SNES market for the past few years, nor does it being a "hot system to collect for!" help either).

Having said that I'm fairly serious about completing the set in some capacity sometime this coming year (as many of the games I'm missing aren't outrageously pricey) so have been actively saving check after check looking mainly to dump it on a MBR/SR. After that the other stuff falls into the sub-1k category, and since I have a decent job and no kids and no debt to speak of....... should be achievable in a year's time.

I have waffled though several times on even bothering with the paper at all. I **could** just sell all the boxes/manuals/posters I DO have and finish the set cart only, which has become much more appealing over time............. the carts DO look cool on a shelf when sitting on their sides, no doubt. Plus hunting in the wild would be fun again as any game I needed I could buy and immediately add to the collection..... Not to mention if I did want to box them in some way, UGC's + a printer solve that problem adequately...... decisions, decisions.

The only other "set" I'm planning on going for would be all the good system exclusive Gameboy Advance games. I have no nostalgia for it as a system, but I find many of the games are rather enjoyable and the boxes display nice when on a shelf.

yeah I just got into cardboard and paper not to long ago. Makes it harder but looks so good on the shelf
  • I'd love a complete NES set, but I can't justify the cost on some of the big boys. SE, the Panesians, etc, and NES is the only system I buy every cart I can.

So no full set for me, although i'll keep chippin away at it.
  • More of a "subset" kinda guy.

But I am going for a complete NES (with unlicensed and PAL exclusive) Minus SE
  • Ive got 4.99 complete sets. The .99 being NES as I don't have Stadium Events. The others are N64, Master System, 32x, and Jaguar. Which reminds me I never got around to taking pictures of my Jaguar collection for the badge on here, I should get around to that one of these days. I would like to finish SNES but I'm only 50% on that one and prices jump faster than my income can keep up, so Ive also gone for other stuff like pong consoles and pre NES systems when the SNES stuff gets me down.

oh yeah I think I've seen your posts in the badges thread. Have you posted your collection in its entirety? Sounds like a big one
  • I have a complete licensed and unlicensed NES set per NA database. Would like a complete SNES set but just never got the bug like I did with NES. Have the majority of everything I'd ever want to play for SNES though. Do a lot more playing than collecting anymore which has been nice. I like picking a game at random and giving it a shot. Found some really fun games I had never played before that way, but also found some that I don't care to play ever again. Also wandered into the world of homebrews and repros since finishing the NES set which has been neat. There are some awesome homebrews and tons of repros that I never knew existed and wish they had been released in the US.

There's a thread with members that have complete and near complete NES licensed sets for anyone interested - http://vintage.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=27787

I'm pursuing a loose GBC set right now.  Moving along pretty quickly.  Some decent stuff mixed in, but definitely not looking forward to the big girl. I personally don't have room for CiB, but I am casually working my complete GB set into CiBs as they come my way.  Do strategy guide sets count??

Interesting timing for this post. I was planning to do a 1-year follow up to this thread:

yeah just thinking about shantae hurts , I saw an auction starting at like 750 or something cib. At least it's the only big one to worry about really, apart from singer which will be a pain to ship. my collection isn't to big right now so for me to have the set cib wouldn't be pushing space limits to bad. And those boxes are too nice to pass up  you posted a while ago about cart only GB right? They did look slick in those wooden boxes. I was thinking about gameboy, and then I decided I wanted boxed, and then I saw prices and said F that

Oh and yeah strategy guides count if you want them too
  • Im a sloppy collector because i have too many at once things going on...

Sets: Nes cib minus se box, unlicensed missing a few boxes

Virtual boy, need box for jack bros and water world, everything else done

    Nintendo power, done

Nearly done ps1 longbox, nes hint guides

Closing in on ps1 main, ps2, wii, egm, gamepro, psp

2/3rds on ds, genesis, gameboy (cart only), ps2 guides, ps1 guides

Over half on vita, 3ds, ps3

Near halfway saturn, dreamcast, gbc, sega cd

Only ones i intend to complete to 100% are ps1, wii, psp and ds. Wii and ds are extremely challenging due to rare shovelware. My goals are stretched out.long right now.

didn't know about that thread! It is different enough though, I was more curious about what sets people liked going for rather then asking about a few specific ones. Those were the top three I was expecting to see though

That's my thing, man. I have my octopus tentacles in so many different directions. Partly because I tend to really like to pick up new consoles, and then I need something to play on those consoles, ha.

I really admire people who have a lot of focus in their collection(s). Not that I think that's inherently better or something. I like that, though, and it helps a person actually finish.
