The key is to just keep hitting F5 until it works.

  • Yeah Gamestop's site showed it needs some more troubleshooting as it shouldn't crash this bad; I wonder how many other preorder items have done this to the site.
  • Trying to add to cart, site keeps timing out. Too much traffic
  • I even called and have been on hold for 20 minutes
  • Congrats fellas we managed to nuke gamestop's entire system lol
  • ^ lol even the GameStop app is down
  • the place i went to get mine this morning had nothing but neckbeard scalpers in line. they were watching ebay bins go up and kept celebrating everytime it jumped another 100. sorting bin highest first. "its at 500 bro im gonna make a quick 2 gs." get a f###ing life you fat dorks. i was really hoping some jordan esq robberies would happen in the parking lot.
  • Wow, this has completely brought out the worst in people once again. Can't say I'm surprised. Too bad, that this turned into a shit show both on the greed of collectors/scalpers and Nintendo's classic understocking. So sad... just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Glad a lot of people are refusing to pay over retail.

I can't wait to see what happens to Amazon when thirsty-ass collectors DDOS their servers.

I've gotten about three steps further in checkout on each screen.   Gonna see which one completes first.

  • Who is your ISP and are you over wireless or hardline? I can't even load the item page any more
  • I just saw online a Target near me says limited stock...it is the only 1 within 100 miles of my house that said that. I called and talked to the electronics dept and she said she have gotten well over 500 calls for it today...and they only got 6. She has been calling Target corporate all day to get them to fix the website error so people stop calling her. Pretty nuts that she got over 500 calls about it today alone....probably from people all over IL willing to drive they if the website was correct, which it isnt. HYPE HYPE HYPE!

    DirtyResellerWeb

Also for anybody refreshing, you can stop.   One of mine finally went through with "One or more items have been deleted or modified based on the availability." message and an empty cart.

  • Damn, thanks for the heads up. I can't wait for the Amazon deadline to hit.

    EDIT

officially unavailable again on gamestops page

On mobile, it was released on the mobile site ~5 minutes before it was made available on the regular website. I bought mine through there, I was refreshing both at the time

  • They ship in boxes of 6 so stores like GS will probably only have 12 at most - 10 if employees grab one.
  • The thing I don't understand...why some stores got 5, some got 4, some got 6, some got 12, some got 20, etc...something fishy about that. Methinks employees be buying some for themselves.

Having worked in retail during college, I wouldn't begrudge employees of places like Target if they were able to get one ahead of time.

Working a mindless minimum wage job should have a few perks when it can.

  • I was able to order one off the Gamestop website last night about 12:30 AM. It was going slow as hell on each page and then the whole website would just crash with a notice to go shop on thinkgeek.com until they were back up. Eventually got it put through. I emailed support today to confirm it actually went through and they said it looks good.

They want people buying the systems from them -- but they are building hype via preliminary scarcity to guarantee they sell a zillion of them.

The same systems are being sold to the same people, just with an extra middleman. Sure, it may suck for people paying $200, but i know people that would rather spend extra than wait in line. Nintendo gets their profit, and the guy that wants the system ends up with it. Its not ideal, but its the way the free market works.

You have me quoted, but those words are Arch's not mine.

I do agree with him though. Your middleman theory has a flaw and isn't accounting for what we are talking about, which is increasing hype by using artificial scarcity thus increasing sales. It happens with diamonds every day. Diamonds are far from rare, but they only release small amounts of them at a time to keep the value and demand sky high.

People will impulse buy these systems because of human nature. People will want what they can't have, want what everyone else around them is getting, and not want to feel like they will miss another chance to get one(those who didn't get one first wave), thus driving up their sales when a second wave rolls in. It works very well. Look at Amiibos as well for an example. So many people sold their collections when they realized they were just in it for the hype.

If there is an infinite supply, you would have much less people impulse buying these and the hype would be nil. That is the point we are trying to make.

Yes scalpers are just a middle man if you look at it one dimensionally, but if you look at the bigger picture and the psychology behind it, it makes a lot of sense to release it this way from a business perspective to drive sales up.

Sorry, I was trying to post from my phone, and it was only showing HTML, I agree that the middle man would not be needed if Nintendo released their load at once instead of slowly leaking it out, but I think my point that the same people endup with it in the end is correct. It is hard see people spending upwards of $400 on ebay for something that sells in stores for $60, but in the end as much as it sucks for people wanting one at $60, that is what nintendo's release strategy, and impulse buyers equates to.

  • Its about to get real folks. Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor

I left my power supply in the box and used another quality USB power supply. Does it actually say "Asus" on the included power supply like the one on store.nintendo.com?

The cardboard shipper box I acquired from Walmart only holds 6 units. Target said they had 7.

My local GameStop only received 1 controller accessory.

I bet Target's 7th unit was actually an extra controller accessory. Whoever had ticket #7 in that line probably left disappointed.

You can't even tell the difference between a mint box and this new NES's box (not that I've compared the two, but the box is beautiful mint) so it would will look nice even with you guys on the site that have insane collections; that's my opinion at least haha

I'm sure it does and would, sometime down the road I may even get one, but to me, I just want to play the games anyway.  Virtually lag-free on the AVS with my own controllers is just such a more appealing option.
