The thing I don't understand...why some stores got 5, some got 4, some got 6, some got 12, some got 20, etc...something fishy about that. Methinks employees be buying some for themselves.
Having worked in retail during college, I wouldn't begrudge employees of places like Target if they were able to get one ahead of time.
Working a mindless minimum wage job should have a few perks when it can.
that's how I got my GameCube adapter for WiiU. That was another heavily scalped item
All the Walmarts around me got 6, except one that got 2. I mentioned in line that emplyees must have gotten to them, and one of the ladies in line said she works at the store that got 2 and the manager told them that it was customers first.
Nintendo doesn't want people paying scalpers $200+/unit on eBay more than anybody else does.
They want people buying the systems from them -- but they are building hype via preliminary scarcity to guarantee they sell a zillion of them.
(and frankly anybody paying that kind of price on eBay right now is a dope that should know better)
I honestly wonder how many fake bids are being placed right now, just to increase scarcity and price. With eBay, there is practically no punishment for an unpaid bid, and absolutely no punishment if you have a 2nd account. So, bid up every auction, looking like increased demand, and then just... don't pay.
Anyone who isn't patient enough to wait for a rerelease of a 30+ year old system is a dammed fool.
Do these really have a lot of appeal to collectors here, especially on this form? Most of us that want to play these games either use an emulator or have an NES with the carts. This is a glorified emulator, correct? They can't even read a real NES cart, right?
But Nintendo made it! Seriously, you're right. Just looked on the box about AC adapters. Is it Europe or everywhere?
I think the "WCP" chip is probably in the Wii Classic Controller Pro. While playing the NES Classic Edition, I've felt a quirk that I've only previously felt with the Wii Classic Controller Pro and not with the original Wii Classic Controller.

Japan and Australia don't include an AC adapter, but I believe the USB cord is included. Pretty sure this applies to UK/Europe also.
Japan sells the AC adapter separately. Don't know if they're selling one in Europe. The picture on store.nintendo.com shows "Asus" on the plug.
I have to say, I'm annoyed that Nintendo continues to put things out in such limited quantities. This would have been a hit. I feel like I don't want one at all, now. I've got the carts, actual NES consoles, and a retron... If they can't get me hyped for a release date and then ship enough so I can be excited and buy it day one, screw them. If they do this with the Switch... I just don't know.

Disassembled a Wii Classic Controller and a Wii Classic Controller Pro.
The chip in the Wii Classic Controller was something like "FNU RVL"
The chip in the Wii Classic Controller Pro was the same "WCP" chip found in the NES Classic Edition controller.
The "quirk" I was talking about reminds me of this:
I kept feeling like this was happening or my character wouldn't walk if I had rolled the D-pad directions a certain way.

What's the need to buy one right now? Why the need to buy anything day one? Last year this thing didn't exist and everything was fine. My point is, just wait a few months and buy one if you'd like.

Because, initially, I didn't care. After thinking about it, I thought it would be a nifty thing to have downstairs attached to my big flat screen for playing with my wife. I don't need it. That's the point. They could have had my money and another purchase if it was actually available today because I thought 'Fuck it, why not?'. Now I probably won't get one at all. They're just missing out on sales by under shipping. I won't wait because I don't need this in my life. It would have been almost an impulse buy for a novelty.
I'm still ticked off at Gamestop not letting me finish paying for one via Paypal...seriously I was in the middle of paying for it and they sell the one I was trying to buy!? Assholes. But I'm really mad at Nintendo for the limited stock and pre-orders.
I guess I'm waiting till Amazon "restocks" in the coming "weeks". >.>

Thanks. Really hope everyone else gets one of these. Was tempted in doing an unboxing, but it felt cheesey.

You know, after reading your reasoning there I have to agree with that train of thought. It is an impulse buy, or even an item that serves no purpose for the majority of collectors or folks who have all the games already anyhow other than to cash in on the vintage craze and make a quick buck from it.
These are aimed at casual fans or people who don't already have all of the games, and while we are all free to do what we like (meaning I personally don't care either way) it seems to me that resellers and even collectors who are just going to collect the NIB item may be taking some of the fun of experiencing these older games from those who may enjoy such an item more, ones who the concept of such an item are most likely aimed intended for.
I wonder if anyone who isn't as balls deep as some of us may be will decide to pick one of these up in hopes of developing some interest in vintage gaming and become turned off by such silly behavior.

If they're turned off by the silly behavior demonstrated by the release of the mini, then they really won't like the rest of the hobby
You know, I didn't have one of these two days ago and I'm no better or worse not having one of these today. I still want one but I'll wait out the hype. I really think this is a case of scalpers causing the problem. The is just a fun, retro toy geared to 30-somethings. I'll be honest, if I were 10 years old and I got this as a kid at Christmas, I might would have bought into some hype from friends and commercials (cause I was a good Amurcan kid!) but once I plugged it in and started playing it, I'd be disappointed. This thing sucks compared to modern toys. I'm not being harsh but "nostalgia" is what's selling this thing, not something really new and shiny.
I mean, I know that some scalpers are getting over 12x the purchase price, which is insane. People are that stupid to shell out that kind of money, well, a fool and is money is soon departed. But what gets me is that people actually think this is something worth hoarding/fighting over. It's cool, but it's not all that.

There are some auctions now over $500:

While there are BIN at $225.... If this isn't shill bidding I don't know what is.
Fantastic movie. This is what I felt like yelling today. I will just wait for the next batch.
I haven't been able to get the system yet, but I got the controller off Amazon in the nick of time. It should come soon!
It's a true shame Nintendo didn't make enough of these. I believe they have burned some bridges with people today.

There is also a neat carrying case for it on Amazon.

That is the thing, Nintendo is a monolith. No one is going to look at today's events and swear them off.
Nintendo could be video taped on a bus saying they'd grab sega by the p***y, and we'd all still buy the Nintendo Mini.

I wanna see the inside of the controller
I did an examination of the insides of the NES Classic controller.
Checked for switching parts and how the controller performs.
I posted most this info on my Twitter feed with some pics, but I will likely do another write-up later.

Word on the street is Walmart had 18. Tru had 12. EB games had 8 at one store and 40 something at another location... Which seems high.
