Super Mario Run

Anyone else started playing this yet? I think

it is pretty fun for what it is with plenty of coin challenges to not get bored quickly. Quality first mobile game from Nintendo.

  • I'd buy it if comes to Android.
  • Yeah I just downloaded. Will dive in deeper after work. Seems like a fun time waster though.
  • iOS App Store was set to notify me, but I didn't get anything.

Yeah hopefully they bring it over....Wouldn't mind playing around with it myself.

Its like with the NES mini, they have this small window right when its released where people are excited about it, then they can't get it and forget it exists. I'll go back to playing Mario 3 now

    iOS master race.
  • It does a good job translating that classic Mario gameplay to a phone, but that is all. Maybe it picks up in the later levels, but the moment to moment gameplay is not very exciting. There just isn't that sense of speed that other endless runners have. The challenges and kingdom building seem pretty shallow.
  • At first, I thought you were asking if anyone's done a run on Super Mario Bros. yet. lol

I'm not into anything mobile, so I won't be playing this.
  • :/ I got excited and then saw Android didn't have it...meh.
  • I totally downloaded and already bought the 6 worlds. I've had an iTunes balance since last Christmas to use anyway (only $9.99). Looks great so far (I should probably be working..)
  • Still not out in Canada, weird.
  • I never heard anything aboot this till now. Im going to have to download it.

    Nevermind.
  • I should first mention that my bias comes from not being a mobile gamer in the slightest nor much of a handheld person. I just watched a gameplay video on youtube--it's hard for me to wrap my head around these kinds of "games." What is it about the mindlessness and dumbing down of gaming that is so attractive? I don't understand the mass appeal. Of course it's not meant for your average gamer, but this is literally taking the most annoying aspect of any Mario game (scrolling levels where you can't affect the screen with your movement), stripping it of other unique aspects that give you "freedom," and adding great (?) graphics, then packaging it as a game. Every appeal to me is lost and I wouldn't even download it if it were free, but more so I'm trying to understand how mobile and the mundanity that it spews out has become such a focal point in game development (obviously because there's a lucrative market for it...but why? even as a "timewaster" this would get me more frustrated than deriving any pleasure from it).

It should be out in Canada now according to some people.

Negative sir, just checked the Canadian App Store and as of 8:00 pm NA time, no dice. Not a big deal as I'm not jumping up and down over this one
  • Meh ill pass.

With something like this it felt they were preying on the people that will buy ANYTHING mario and casual people that are into "nintendo" because its hip and nerdy. Dont get me wrong, im sure some was directed at the hardcore fans too.

But the other side of it is, how much enjoyment of something is 10$ worth to you? If you get an hour or two, then its worth the 10$ In my opinion.
  • I think it's been a lot of fun. It's a new way to think about Mario games and it's a fun challenge.
  • Is it like subway surfers?

That's what I'm imagining the game play to be similar to.
  • I don't play mobile games. My phone is for communication, not walking out into traffic trying to catch Pokeymans or rescuing princesses.
  • I use my phone more for games, email, internet and FB more then text or calling. I need more friends apparently. Also no offline mode for this game makes me sad as its on my ipad. Hopefully the game will see an Android port soon.
  • I've only played a level of it so far but I like it. I get that it is not a style of game that Nintendo gamers are all that used to, but as an auto-runner I think there is enough nuance to the jumping to make it interesting.
  • I played through the levels in maybe an hour and I'm not sure how long playing the same multiplayer levels are going to hold my interest. I guess I'll go back and get every pink coin. It's weird specifically not jumping on enemies then jumping when you're on top of them. I definitely prefer that whole being able to move Mario myself thing.
  • I'm completely indifferent. Why did I even reply to this thread?

Sooo... If you take the iPad on a camping trip where there's no wifi, you can't play the game? Better dust off that old Gameboy...

Same here. I stumbled upon a random article via Facebook and saw that it was out.

  • This looked like a game for people who dont have nintendo consoles. I shouldnt knock before i try but no interest in this i hate tapping my phone
  • Looks like it'd be good to kill a few minutes and I'm happy that Nintendo is tapping into the mobile market/21st century, but I am not one to play mobile games, especially if I have to pay for it.
  • Downloaded it last night and initially it doesn't appear that there is much free content. It really has that "Nintendo" feel though. Graphics and audio design are great. Good time waster for an hour or two.
