They were sold to Funcoland or Goodwill or whatever. I don't think we're going to run out of cartridge games anytime soon.
Consoles are another matter, as many of those were tossed, but those that survived to today tend to be shipped around in a sturdier box anyway.
And honestly, $40 is a chunk for me, too, but of the games I look at that are worth that and above up to $100 or more, there are always a few available. Always.

Here in the States we're not allowed to ship using boxes from alcohol products (unless we're actually shipping the alcohol pictured on the box - I think in that case its permissible). I used a box that had housed bottles of rum (our liquor store will often supply with you a strong box to carry your purchases in) and at the post office I had to cover every mention of the product/pictures with USPS Priority Mail tape. So I can certainly see an ammunition box subjected to the same procedures.
My sister has come down with the flu so I don't think she'll be bringing her family to Texas from Colorado this weekend. So I'm going to have to ship a $120 RC truck to their house for my nephew. This thread has me worried. Would FedEx be the best option? It's from a mom and pop hobby store so ship to store isn't an option.

All the shipping companies have horror stories. Look on Youtube and you got USPS, UPS, and FedEx employees not giving a single shit about their packages.
Parcels go through a variety of machines, such as the Biohazard Detection System and other machines that orient the parcels a specific way so that the tracking barcodes are all facing the same direction, which have to be done to run all of the parcels under the scanners. Once in a while, the machines will screw up and wedge a box slightly crooked between the belts on the sides of the machines, and can crush it or tear it apart completely. Imagine taking two opposite corners of a box, and pushing them towards the middle to make a diamond shape, that's what basically happens.
I can't say for certain this is what happened, but the picture of the tracks on the box look like what the tracks on the belts look like. They are not forklift tire marks, because those tires are bald and have no tread on them. Also the LLV (mail truck) tires have quite a large tread pattern, so it doesn't look like that either. My money is on getting caught in the facing machine.

how is it hard to see it getting destroyed??? its a picture, sure it sucks for VGD and the buyer but its just a hunk of plastic. hell, I've watched tons of videos of idiots smashing and destroying games on youtube, or even better there is/was a video of some guy smashing the case open on a graded Castle Greyskull playset and then rippping the box to shreds barehanded throwing stuff everywhere and then putting the castle on a shelf.

Well yeah I'm aware of that. Its generally for buyer abuse issues if you click and read about it. Its not going to help me with a damaged item that was returned.

Hmmm, you may be right. I thought they had some sort of protection, but looking into it, not really. Seems like they automatically default to the buyer, so it's easy for buyers to scam sellers, and hey, ebay cares only about $$$. So yeah, sorry, looks like you're kinda screwed
