Whining on Facebook

I am just curious how common this shit is with others, I have an old friend named Kellie who is always crying on Facebook about how "shitty her life is" and how her and her husband are always broke, and how unfair everything in life is to them blah blah blah... I finally unfollowed her because I cant stand the constant whining and crying, she was crying on Facebook last year around Christmas so I gave her money, and then a couple months later she was crying about money again, and again, and then this year the same sob story around Christmas about money problems again, this shit gets old. anyone else have friends on Facebook who pull this bullshit.

  • There are times when some of us use it to vent a little (heck, even I do sometimes), but even though I've personally have never seen it, I'm sure there's constant whining and complaining with some people and I do see that something like that can be real annoying.

For the most part, I am sympathetic to people who are truly having a rough time, but what would probably tick me off is if a person has it made being born with a silver spoon in their mouth constantly complains about first world problems.
  • I am a sympathetic person as well, which is why I tried to help them and also why I always do financially good deeds for others around Christmas and when I can, But from what I have noticed is that it has become a common thing for her Facebook posts, way more negative posts then positive ones, Usually about how life is unfair to them, and how they are always getting screwed, and so on. I have given them money to try to help but its like all it does is enable them not help them, I have even gone as far as to offer them to go and talk to my financial advisor to try and solve their problem, yet they have never taken me up on it. Also Kellie used to be a pretty close friend in High school but not so much now a days
  • It's been a thing since Facebook started. I had an early account when it was limited to colleges, and believe me, it was there. I don't think it's really increased, other than more people are on social media and now you see everyone's dirty laundry.

It was easier to ignore back when people just aired this stuff in Christmas update letters (seriously, those things are depressing as all hell.)
  • I personally can't believe how much personal stuff people post on Facebook its insane, also how much crap people post as well, like what they are having for dinner, who cares lol.

Stay off of Twitter and Instagram, then.

  • Will do, I don't have an account on either... only social media I have is Facebook

I don't understand Christmas letters. I don't want to read them, I don't want to write them, so why bother?

I wonder if it's not like small talk, something that everyone hates but feels obligated to do anyway.
  • I unfollow everyone who posts obscene amounts of memes, political stuff, whines, or just annoys me.

I don't need my feed clogged up with nonsense. Especially memes with common spelling mistakes but trying to give me life lessons lol
  • I care... to a point... when the effort to whine exceeds the amount of effort to try to fix the problem that's when I stop caring.
  • I dislike Facebook.

Everyone has "the answer" and needs to make sure everyone else knows it. The amount of "gotcha" memes are terrible. The rest is just mundane nonsense that nobody cares about.
  • The reason I don't have financial problems is because I work my ass off and make smart financial choices, its not that hard to do. I have offered her some advice and offered her to talk to my financial advisor but I guess whining about your financial problems is easier then putting in the effort to fix them.
  • Whining about facebook in a thread dedicated to discussing the whining on facebook?

    *Xzibit meme*
  • Who's whining? Just discussing...
  • What else would you expect, it's designed for women to bicker with each other over petty crap.
  • I like Facebook for the reasons of staying connected with friends and family who are far away and you cant see in person all the time, I also have a couple buddies who are video game collectors as well who live else where and we show eachother our pickups and do trading etc. And I enjoy my Facebook for those reasons
  • Yeah I got a old friend from high school that is always complaining about his job or life or how hard it is. (I mean literally everything he posts, and he is an active poster.) I used to try and cheer him up but see that there is no point. last week I actually commented "man don't you ever post anything happy?" and the response I got was "What is happy?" There is a lot of things in my life that suck too, I just don't air out my dirty laundry for everyone to see.

Just be there for her as a friend emotionally.
  • Just delete your account. I deleted mine like seven years ago or so and never looked back. I correspond typically through text message with most of my close friends and family, which is ideal. I don't miss the bickering or stupidity one iota.
  • I appreciate the advice, I don't want to delete the account because I stay connected with people I enjoy having in my life through Facebook, I have just decided to unfollow or block people who give off negative posts and vibes.
  • You can adjust your feeds to filter out the whiners. It's not that tough.

I mostly use FB to keep up with hobbies and interest groups (not just video games, stuff like theatre, home AV, etc.)
  • I like mine, easy enough to scroll past or unfriend annoying people.
  • First off, I can't tell any of you guys in this topic not to whine on social media, because I do the same thing sometimes. <_<

But yeah, I get the sentiment. I mean I think people should be free to post whatever they want to, but if a person's Facebook posts follows one specific theme (even non-whining ones), it can definitely get annoying. Like some of my friends post almost exclusively nothing but memes. It doesn't personally bother me, but I can see why it could bother others. If I don't like what I see, I'll scroll past... unless I'm in the mood to argue and debunk something I deem as stupid, that is.

btw, PSerge can relate to my above post, I'm sure. He unfollowed me because 85% of my wall consists of nothing but memes. I still love him, though. XD
  • You can deactivate your account and keep messenger. It's what I did a while ago and it's great. Still talk to everyone on chat, but don't see all the ads, BS, and whining.
  • Unless someone's trying to sell NES games for a few bucks each chances are I won't be on to check my Facebook.
  • Gonna look into doing this possibly.
  • Even if you don't deactivate your account you can just go to messenger.com to check your messages at your computer without seeing your feed.
  • I don't vote. Half of my Facebook is filled with pro trump posts and the other anti-trump posts. Lots of whining from one side and lots of bragging from the other. Both sides take it so far to extremes that I can't believe these otherwise reasonable people really believe the things that they post. Many post 3,4,5 things A DAY about this. Is this seriously going to go on for 4 years?

This is a big reason I don't visit Facebook often. Come on people give it up! Don't you know that there are rare games to be found ?

Wouldnt just using email solve this whole problem?
