Need some help with Dragon Quest/Warrior 6 (SNES version)

So I've been working on Dragon Quest 6 (SNES version of course) and sadly I'm stuck on the Killer Machine/Land Armor boss (and it's the first of a trio!)...is Level 26/27/24/23 too low and if so where's the best place to grind at this point?  I also have 30,000 gold in my back account right now if there's anything I really really SHOULD have.

But above all else, I have a question regarding the casinos, especially their video poker game.  Now in DQ4, you can bet up to 100 coins, but in the first and second casinos you're only allowed a max bet of ten coins    Does the third casino allow higher bets like 100 coins a hand or do all three only allow 10 coins a hand and if so how are you supposed to get the biggest prizes that way?    I was disappointed that DQ5 didn't offer video poker but their slot machine was quite attractively designed and the 100 coin machine gave pretty good payouts if you're patient and save your game right after you're significantly ahead.  Wow, if only real life gambling had a reset and try again feature!!  I tried real gambling a few times but the machine didn't offer a full pay table and I knew I wasn't playing my best (I didn't have full Deuces Wild video poker strategery down) so I knew I was wasting my money    At least with DQ's casinos you get that similar feeling because this time you really are playing for something (really nice weapons/armors/upgrades you might not see anywhere else).

  • I played through it this year and I don't remember any trouble with that fight. IIRC there were a lot of metal slimes in the desert area. Also make sure you have the latest equipment - I remember there was a shop that was tricky to reach by ship.
  • I did manage to make it to the last casino and I'm disappointed that once again, you can only bet 10 coins in video poker   Still they did change the double or nothing part to a Card Sharks sort of deal so at least it's not totally random chance. Still how am I supposed to win the biggest prizes if I can't be 100 coins like in previous games' casinos?
  • I haven't played this game in YEARS, but I remember that part being a pain in the ass! Latest equipment always helps; I may have just gotten lucky tbh. What a fun game.
  • Lately in DQ games (and most RPGs I've played in general) I have this habit of being an item/money hoarder (unless it's the basic stuff like Potions and Antidotes or something, I guess I figure I don't know for sure how rare an item might be and if I might need them for the Final Boss or a super secret boss or something). For example, in the SNES DQ's, I end up just throwing whatever upgrade seeds/nuts I get into the bank/sack, and now in both case I'm near the end and still have no clue who should get them. For DQ3 I just gave them to the teammate with that seed's lowest stats (figuring they need it the most you see) but that was when three out of the four members of the team were on equal level/experience (if you don't finish any battles with one or more dead). I did get around to doing the Style Upgrade on the Hero's special sword (forget the name at the moment) but now I don't know what else I should buy if anything. I think I got about 12K-14K in the bank now?
