Need Help getting my Famiconverter out of my Toaster!

I just picked up a Famicom 31-in-1 with Famiconverter for $10, so I got excited and threw it into my front loading NES. It's got a strap on it, so I figured 'no problem'... well, now, I've got the flashing grey screen and I need to clean the cart, but I can't get the thing out of the NES! I am pulling on the strap so hard it's started to hurt my hand..

Does anyone have any tips on getting it out? And, are 31-in-1's pretty common?

I only read the bold stuff... and I'm sorry, I can't help you!

  • Ok, I figured out, but now my BALLS HURT. Get this...

The top front edge of the cart was catching on the top of the inside of the NES, because I was pulling slightly upward on the strap. I was getting really pissed off, so I decided "that's it, this thing is coming out right now." I put one hand on the strap and one on the NES, and pulled as hard as I could. Only this time, I wasn't pulling at the upward angle. I yanked the strap as hard as I could and elbowed myself directly in the balls.

It turns out that the game/converter actually pulls out much easier than any NES game I have.

hahaha, I very rarely actually lol at something on the net, but that did it...

No small feat, considering what my nuts have been through in the last 10 minutes

  • I can't get this damn thing to work in the NES. I keep getting the flashing screen. I've cleaned the part that goes into the NES and I've cleaned the famicom game... has anyone had trouble with these before??
  • The title screen rolls up the screen, but the NES keeps flashing.

I tried doing what it says on the converter "press reset for 3-5 seconds and depress; it will be ok"... Well it's NOT ok you stupid converter!

    Anyone?
  • are you putting the famicom game in backwards? famicom games should go in backwards not forwards just US games...
  • No, I know I have it all in the right way, because the Title Screen keeps rolling half way up the screen before the light flashes on the front of the NES and it does it all over again.

Would a flashing screen indicate that it's a bad connection between the converter and the NES? Or could it also mean that it might be a bad connection between the famicom game and the converter?
  • I had trouble getting some famiconverter games to work on either a toaster OR a toploader, but they'll work in my Messiah fami port. Strange stuff. I bought a sweet 3-in-1 pirate from Hong Kong and it only worked in there.

Sorry I'm sure this isn't a helpful post, but it might help you feel better if despite all your cleaning, it still won't work.
  • Dangevin- did you ever get to the point where you could see the title screen of your games (if only for a second)? I know that I can get it to work, I just need to determine why the NES keeps flashing even though the game is starting up.
  • I could see parts of the title, but it was garbled. And the games would start to play (really glitchy graphics/sound), but error out almost immediately.
  • K thanks for the help...

I tried it in one of my spare consoles, and it works!

So it must have been the NES.

    Thanks for the help.

  • If you can see the title screen but it keeps reseting, it means the lockout chip is causing the resets. Either the pin on the cart that sends the signal to the chip is dirty, or you have an NES with a version of the 10nes chip that isn't compatible with your converter. If you look around you can find a tutorial to disable the lockout chip. All you have to do is clip one pin, but you'll want to see a picture to be sure it's the right one!
