I'm buying Nintendo Campus Challenge from DreamTR

After talking with DreamTR for an interview about his collection, we started talking about Nintendo Campus Challenge.  He was thinking about selling it and I was interested in buying it too.

We have signed the deal and by the middle of September I will be the proud owner of 1991 Campus Challenge.

Thanks DreamTR for be willing to sell this great, one a kind item.

  • Congrats man!
  • Congratulations! Isn't it the only one "out there" in existence right now?
  • Wow, that's crazy awesome. I'm really curious about the price as well. That's one thing I always wish I had. Congrats man. It'll go well with the other two "items" you picked up recently image
  • Wow!! Nice pick ups for you lately!! I wondering how much that went for?
  • I am shocked that Dream would sell this...you must have made him an amazing offer! Congrats on the awesome pick up, truly one of a kind.

  • Jesus you must have bought DreamTR a new location for his arcade, fully stocked the place with games, and given him a cool $15,000 working capital on the side. All the same nice pickup.
  • Holy Balls! I can't believe you separated something like that out of Dream's hands! Congrats man, you must have burned a hole through your pocket and piercing your upper thigh!
  • Congrats on getting a awesome piece of nintendo history!

Yes, this is the only copy of this cartridge known to exist.  I'm Nintendo made more for the event, but probably destroyed almost all of them.

The price was $14,000.  I was as surprised as everyone else that he was willing to sell it.  I made a joke about him selling it at first, and then he actually offered to sell it to me for real.

Well now you've got the (3) greatest pieces of Nintendo history! And it only cost you over 35K image

I'm wondering, what else are you planning on acquiring?

  • Wow, you have made some serious purchases lately dude!
  • man, like for real, I will autograph a copy of Mario Duck hunt for the right price. Think about it....$5k for a grey cart and there were 90, $17,500 for a gold and there were 26, Not sure how many of those campus challenges there were but you can bet more than 1 and you paid $14k for this. This will be the only mario/duck hunt autographed by me. I'll even sign a contract saying I won't sign another one or you can have all your money back plus 10%. PM me if interested. image
  • I feel like such a wimp, being a guy who just wants to build up a collection of various consoles, and then seeing this. Congratulations. Congratulations all around.
  • I'm surprised Jason would part with it too, but yeah congrats. 14k sounds like a lot, but it is the only 1 known, and with what NWC Gold's have been going for it's not really a ridiculous amount for it.

Very tempting, but no thanks image  I just bought a signed Mario Duck hunt from another random person and I don't need two of them.  haha

Once I actually have possession of this game I have plans to do a "Super Powerfest" event with the guy who owns Campus Challenge 92 and Powerfest 94.  It would be the first time all four Powerfest cartridges were in the same place and playable.  Don't know the details yet, but should be really fun.
  • Damn JJ...you're on a roll. You've dropped some Scrooge McDuck type $$$ lately. Congrats
  • Very,very nice pick up.
  • Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Holy crap. There been a lot of bank robberies in Colorado lately?
  • Nice pickup dude. You certainly paid for it.
  • When you get the other carts are you going to dump the roms so maybe bunnyboy can make repos??

I actually have seen all but the NCC 1991 cart in the same room. image Not all four, but they did have the DK and Starfox comp carts as well. It was very impressive to see.

Bunnyboy already has a repo of the cartridge I own.  It would be great if there were repo's of the other cartridges too, but you would have to talk to the owner of those carts and bunnyboy about that.

Bunnyboy never returns any of my emails, IM's, or DM's about his reproductions.  I've tried asking him about a few things like this.

Where was that?  Did you tour a collector's place or were they playable at some event?

  • Personal deal. It happened by complete shock and surprise. He had an amazing collection, but I know he sold a bunch. I was looking at his NWC but held out for a nicer one.
  • I'm really glad to see this kind of money changing hands for things that are really worth it. Serious buyers and serious sellers meeting on great items like this really legitimize the hobby. Congrats to both of you, and thanks for letting us know about it. Great news!
  • WOW man big time congrats!!!! This is such a mindblowingly epic purchase.
