Google Pixel/XL Who's using it and how much do you like it?

So i've always been a huge smarthphone junkie, the type that genuinely enjoys the strengths/differences between each OS/OEM.  But over the years I've basically decided that I prefer Android to iOS and that it works better for me, or at least allows me to be more efficient.  I've grabbed the new Nexus phone each of the last couple years but have long been one of those people that always wanted Android OS to be on iPhone hardware, or more specifically the camera.

So this year, I decided to grab the iPhone 7 Plus and sure enough, the camera is excellent.  But low and behold, all the reviews of the Google Pixel put the camera on par with the iPhone.  So long story short for any of you that have the Pixel....just how good is the camera?  I feel like I've heard these promises before lol.  Can you compare it to the iPhone 7's?  Any other info you think would be useful about Google's latest and greates?

  • Might not be what you're looking for, I have a Nexus 6P (Previous google phone before pixel) and I've had nothing but problems with it the past couple months. I prefer android to iOS as well due to having more options, but I live in a cold state (MN) and the battery is utter garbage right now. Anytime it's freezing outside and my battery life gets to 30% it usually shuts off.

The phone itself is fantastic, great software and camera but honestly I've noticed that all android phones end this way. They just don't last as long as iOS devices and the build quality cannot be matched until Google starts to oversee the manufacturing process. I purchased an iPhone SE not too long ago and it's perfect. I feel more restricted but I'm tired of putting up with subpar builds.

Thanks for the response.  That's why I'm hopeful and wondering if that is the difference this time, since they did oversee/control the manufacturing process and control the whole hardware/software stack.

i totally agree about how android phones start off great and then fizzle right after the year mark.  I had both the 5x and 6p at different points last year.

That's good that they supervised the process. I'd honestly recommend waiting for the next pixel phone since you've already got an iPhone 7, it will be interesting what they'll come out with as their 2nd model.
  • Yep, I have a Moto X phone from 2013 and it is slowly starting to break down. Cracks are forming around the volume/power buttons and the phone occasionally loses data connection for no reason.

I looked into getting a Pixel, but held off because the design looked more like kit-bashing by Google than a wholly original design like the iPhone. I've since heard of people having hardware issues with the Pixel, so I think I made the right call. I'm going to wait until the Pixel 2 rolls out, I figure Google will by then have clear design.

I use 6p and I love it. No problems so far and I bought it at the launch day.

However, my parents use Iphones and have latest models and my mom took it fix 2 times. They came to visit us on X-mas and her phone stopped receiving wifi/lte signal. I read and its some glitch that she might be looking to replace it. She only had it few months. So, its all varies from person to person

Seems like a lot of people are having problems with their 6P on the Nexus 6P subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/

Yeah I know it's reddit, but Google hasn't really had any sort of response. If you bought your phone from anywhere other than the Play Store you're pretty much screwed and stuck with Huawei's awful customer support. I've been hung up on, told I would receive a call back and never got any sort of response when I was told to wait for one. I finally did and they told me to ship my device to them for two weeks. No thanks.
