I went ahead with a Target.com preorder on the console and paid the $15 for release date delivery. I was hoping to get it thru Amazon so that'd be free but I guess I can't be picky right now.
5% off with a target card would make up for that $15 but it didn't seem to be working for me. So I guess I'm sticking with road tripping to pick mine up unless I can get it locally first.

Yeah I paid with a 1% rewards card (as opposed to my paypal balance) and eBates has 1% on target too, best savings I could get on it.

Same here, exactly. Now to see what this Special Edition of Zelda is all about...
Pre-ordering Mario Odyssey, BOTW Master Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Bomberman R (when available) for launch titles. I could probably do without MK8D but the rest I am over the fucking moon about right now.
Looking through the official site for Bomberman, that game almost got lost in all the hype a bit. It looks great, and i'm a big fan of the original series. It will be a blast (heh) to play online.
Did pre-orders already go live on amazon and they sold out or have they haven't gone live yet?
They went up just after the event last night in the US. Canada got them this morning. All the big online retailers in the US are sold out at this point.
I got one from five retailers, Bestbuy, Walmart, Gamestop, Amazon, and Target. They still look to be in stock on Target, so I'd head there if you need one. Bestbuy shows them as still being able to be pre-ordered, but my friends who are trying to get one are reporting that it errors out when trying to select them to be shipped to you, and nearly every store is sold out for in-store pickup.
EDIT: As of now, they are still available for pre-order on Target. Buddy just got one right in front of my eyes.

No, Target still has them in stock.
Also, ToysRUS hasn't had their preorder yet. Can keep an eye on when that goes live.
master edition up on eb games... can't get to the checkout..
I got it into my cart, then it sold out. Nice EB.
yeah, that website is a nightmare for stuff like this. always luck since it crash so much.
Did you end up getting one? I got through on the site, but sold out. I'd rather get one through Amazon anyway.
No, had one in my cart, but the option to go to checkout wouldn't load. then it showed out of stock. the website is f'd. really hope amazon is up soon. want that and then i can rest until december.
It could have easily been $250 if the Joy Con controllers were not so expensive. The actuall tech inside the machine is cheaper and way behind current consoles.
I could've preordered last night, I had the Switch in my cart on BestBuy.com and Gamestop.com but then decided not to preorder since they charge you right away and I don't feel like spending $300 on a system that offers me nothing right now. It's taken me perhaps too long to realize this but the best days of gaming really is behind us I feel. I guess modern Nintendo really is not for me. Good luck with the preorders.
Lucky I got a preorder on Target through since it seemed I almost completely missed the boat otherwise! Free standard shipping is fine ... I don't mind waiting a few extra days as long as I get one!

The 3rd (release day) is a Friday though. Having it that opening weekend, the only nights of the week I can stay up late, was worth $15 to me

I'm not sure why you think there would be $50 EXCESS of actual bill-of-materials costs, related to just the joy con controllers, that could somehow be reduced.
I wouldn't be surprised if their total bill-of-materials on the pack-in controllers was considerably less than $50, total.
The device, itself, is basically an upgraded NVidia Shield Tablet (X-series processor vs K1) with a dock and physical controls.

$250 would have been a huge difference in perception and at $199 even with this horrible presentation....Switch would have flew off the shelves.
The days of launching a mainline console at < $299 are pretty much gone and never coming back.

They went live at like 2 or 3 in the morning.

$299 is not a crazy price point for that.
And some go kart game too, forget the name.
