I wouldn't be surprised if their total bill-of-materials on the pack-in controllers was considerably less than $50, total.

The device, itself, is basically an upgraded NVidia Shield Tablet (X-series processor vs K1) with a dock and physical controls.

$299 is not a crazy price point for that.

Not only that, but asking for the Switch to be less than the Wii launch price - after factoring in inflation - is just silly.
  • The 3DS (a handheld) also launched at $250. Console launches should be expected to be in the $300-$500 range as a sweet spot. This is basically a console that doubles as your handheld so $300 isn't bad at all. People will always complain about something but the price point on this seems perfect to me.

Not to mention the NES Classics had a market value of $200 or so from release through the holidays. People paying $200 for 30 roms makes $300 for a new console seem fairly modest.
  • Also, $299 isn't even that much money. Hell, it's $399 here in Canada and thats not even that bad. Some people just gotta complain about everything.

Still up on Gamestop.com, I believe!

Anyone else excited for Super Bomberman R?  Looks like the old SNES Bomberman titles to me, which are still a family favorite of ours.

But the WiiU was garbage, and sold as such. Consumer confidence here. Another underpowered system that probably wont get the promised 3rd party support again, relying on more gimmicks, with another high price-point for what youre actually getting, and nothing great at launch other than Zelda and whatever they can port over from the WiiU.

Been out since at least 9AM EST when I tried to get it.  You can click the preorder button but it'll cancel out when you try to pay for it.

It's taken me perhaps too long to realize this but the best days of gaming really is behind us I feel. I guess modern Nintendo really is not for me. Good luck with the preorders.

    Best buy charges when shipped.

Drove by gamestop and they have a sign up at mine that says they have 25 for preorder. Figure I'll wait here in my car for 45 min and order here to save me a road trip to pick up.

Hasn't been since like 7 this morning. Takes it out of your cart when you try to check out. You would think these websites would close the add to cart button.

    Edit: what Jone said!

Ouch, that sucks.  Hopefully it'll be available when Toys R Us goes live.

Sad to say but I agree. Somehow the Switch looks even more disappointing than the Wii U. After this disastrous presentation I feel like the Switch might actually fail and do worse than Wii U even.

It stated free shipping. Either way if you a member of their Elite or whatever identifies you as a spender, it should be free 2 day ship. I have done it for preordered games, so I would image it should apply for consoles.
  • Just got a master edition in store at EB. Guy said they had very few but still have lots of switch pre orders left

Sorry I meant they charge your account when the item ships not when you order. Yes, they have free shipping.

God dammit.  Why do they launch the pre-orders at 3AM EST?  I work at 8AM.  This wasn't even shown in the presentation.  I beyond irritated...although this is Nintendo so I shouldn't be surprised.
  • Was able to get the switch and that master edition Zelda when I woke up at 5:30am from GameStop. Wasn't excited to pay $25 for release day delivery but would hate to not have it over the weekend. Now to wait on Bomberman and Mario kart.

I'm assuming it had something to do with the timing of the presentation last night.  Since that was scheduled around time in Japan, it made it very late/very early for the US and Europe.  I wonder if Nintendo made the large retailers wait until after the presentation to start pre-orders, and if so, they probably wanted to put them up as quickly as possible.

The timing was pretty awful, I will admit.
  • Looks like i'm heading to my local EB.. wish me luck!
  • Yes the presentation sucked ass.  I don't mind paying $299...hell I pre ordered one.

I just want Nintendo to succeed and keep making consoles.  This presentation, launch line up, console price, and accessory price doesn't lend itself to success.

We are the minority that will pay $200 for NES mini...(well I won't for that)....or $299 for the Switch.

Yes it will sell out just like the Wii U did at first.   But I'm afraid this system is starting off terribly if you take the fan boy blinders off.
  • You know what else is an under powered gaming console? The 3ds. And it rekt both the Wii U and Vita in sales and was SOLD OUT everywhere this holiday season. So in so far as the under powered argument, the 3ds is a contradiction and therefore that claim is invalid.

I totally agree with this while I will eventually get the switch I have no reason to buy it day 1 like I did for the wii u.  Zelda is an awesome launch game but after I finish that there will be no games for quite some time.  I could also just get Zelda on the Wii U and Mario Kart 8 in April is not anything I am going to run out and repurchase since I already own the game.  I will most likley get the system closer to when Mario comes out.

Cool, so maybe the switch will succeed in small 1st party titles and shovelwear for kids to play on long car rides. Sounds like a good long-term strategy for a market they are really behind in.

Yup, Mario Odyssey looked interesting, I'll get the system for that, but being that it's coming holiday 2017, I'll wait til closer til then.

I 100% agree...but Nintendo dropped the price of the 3DS after it failed miserably at launch.   Underpowered is fine if the price is right.

Why would a causal gamer buy this over a $250 PS4 or Xbox One?????

Nintendo needs to start reeling in the causal gamer.   Swinging around Joy Cons at $299 will not attract the casual/multiplayer only gamer.

And only sell 5M less units than PS3 and XB360... Yea seems pretty good long term to me.
  • The PS4 launch line up was garbage too, Zelda is far more appealing than any of the launch PS4 games.
  • I think the Switch has WAY more going for it than the Wii U and I'm a huge Wii U fan. Zelda at launch compared to NSMBU... and again, I'm a huge Mario fan. Also, a true successor to Mario 64/Sunshine hopefully by the holidays (not going to deny that this may get delayed).

I'm a little sour about all the ports, but Splatoon is a whole new game, which I wasn't completely expecting and there are already more games announced than there was total within the first year of the Wii U.

The marketing is also way better and there is a lot more hype in my opinion. Don't forget that this will also do what most people thought the Wii U would do which is to be able to game ANYWHERE. I think there's a lot of hype and scalping, but I believe the Switch will still do really well, much better than the Wii U at the very least.
  • Well, I got a Zelda from my local EB! They had 4 preorders available. I showed up about 15 minutes before opening, and there was no line outside. So, I went and stood by the door because, why not? It's only 15 minutes. As soon as I setup, another 8 people get out of their vehicles and join me in line haha. Gotta love -30 weather.
  • Zelda alone is a day one buy for me. I've always wanted an open world Zelda game and I can see with a map that size I have years of game to explore.
