I love this thing. The presentation was complete cringe, and the launch titles all look like tech demos, but the hardware looks amazing. The extra cost is obviously because of the HD rumble and censors. Those things aren't cheap. People tend to forget this little thing called inflation as well, 100$ aint what it used to be.
The other thing working against it is the Wii U really stunk up the place. But if you look at this thing in a vacuum it's basically the true successor to the Wii, and I'd be shocked if it doesn't sell at least 40-50 million when all the dust is settled.
As for the lack of titles, Zelda & Mario alone make the lineup 10x better than the entire run of the Wii U. It takes a lot of time and money to develop good 1st or 3rd party titles, the window just wasn't there for developers to design for the system. Once the devs see the sales numbers (preorders already sold out everywhere), and start to figure out the new technology, the games and software will come. 2018-2019 are gonna be great for Switch. But hell I'd be happy with just next-gen zelda and mario on the go. I hear the screen is amazing as well, better than PSP which is def saying something if true.
Preordered a Switch with a Master Edition of Zelda yesterday. Launch lineup is pretty sparse but that might be more because third parties didn't want to but heads with Zelda than anything else. And for me, honestly Zelda is enough for the first month till Mario Kart comes out. Also don't have a problem with them charging for internet. It was by no means a perfect conference and I'm pretty disappointed that Mario is returning to the 64/Sunshine style of play, but I think they are holding some of their other big announcements till E3.
i preordered the $100 LoZ and Mario Kart in store at GS...plus I got the last in-store reservation of the Switch that my local had...but I also got an Amazon reserve as well
I'm pulling out feelers to my friends if they want my reserve from amazon or not (at cost of course, fuck the headache of scalping the thing...)
If I don't get anyone who wants it, I'm probably gonna cancel (there's just too many things that can go wrong if I get someone's money up front - because I sure as hell can't afford to pay for 2 systems and Zelda myself up front lol - and reserve gets delayed or something else, plus paypal fees and reshipping and all that crap.
after taking a step back and looking at it objectively, this seems like it'll be a fun system. Hopefully we'll get some arcady titles (like NBA Jam, etc) plus region free, I can import Taiko no Tatsujin (which I've previously had to pirate on the wii to play it).
Is it even logical to think an infrared controller could be $30? (I'm literally asking)
I bought a new standard PS3 controller for a friend right before New Year and I'm pretty sure it still cost like $47
PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers are Bluetooth, not IR. Wiimotes were IR, and I believe cheaper than the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers (could be wrong). But $70 to $80 for a controller is ridiculous. The Switch has potential, but I didn't see anything that made me go "I must get this". Their monthly "free games" is also somewhat of a joke. I'm also skeptical that their online will be on par with paid subscription services like PSN or XBL, but as long as there's a strong 3rd party support, it might be a great console. 32gb of internal memory is a joke, though. My Xbone is nearly full with just 10-15 games, and that's a 500gb drive. Hell, I have 15 gig in rock band songs (and another 20 gb or so with the patches and game install), so anything with a lot of dlc content would fill this consoles memory up quickly.
Of all the things that Nitendo did wrong with the switch the 32 gig of storage is the biggest mistake IMO.
Storage is so cheap there isn't any reason that this thing doesn't have 500 gig - 1tb of storage. If they want to push an online service that is worth paying for (something else I doubt they can do given the shit show that is the Wii U online service) where you download games you are going to need a lot more than 32 gig of storage.
On my xbone I had to put a 3 tb expansion drive on it to handle my digital game library. Hopefully the switch will allow for external HDD's.
Nintendo confirmed during a treehouse event that they had a 256Gb card in the system they were playing, which is leading to most likely allowing the internal HDD card being upgraded to up to 2 TB.
No word yet if they are allowing external USB hard drives though. They do have the USB ports though.
PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers are Bluetooth, not IR. Wiimotes were IR, and I believe cheaper than the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers (could be wrong). But $70 to $80 for a controller is ridiculous.
The $80 joycon is essentially two $40 Wiimotes so it's not that expensive considering it's two controllers in one.
The Pro controller is a bit pricey compared to the $50 Wii-U Pro, but look at all the tech they've added. Haptic feedback (HD rumble), IR camera, accelerometer/gyro, NFC reader for Amiibo, and probably some other junk I'm forgetting. Also a proper Dpad for VC.
As for the internal memory, 32Gb is as unacceptible now as 8Gb was in 2012. Switch should have launched with a minimum of 128Gb, and should have come bundled with 1/2/Switch as a pack-in. $350 for "deluxe edition" with $128Gb and 1/2/Switch. Coulda, shoulda, woulda...
I'm pulling out feelers to my friends if they want my reserve from amazon or not (at cost of course, fuck the headache of scalping the thing...)
Oh you better be very very careful about that scalping business, we already saw what Nintendo can do for those who were caught with pirated Pokemon games on the 3DS, look what can happen if you get caught scalping (start at 9:51)!
It was by no means a perfect conference and I'm pretty disappointed that Mario is returning to the 64/Sunshine style of play...
Blasphemy! I've been longing for a true "sandbox" style 3D Mario since forever. My favorite stages from Galaxy 1 & 2 were ones with an open landscape. That Pianta level on Galaxy 2, and the Savana stage from 3D World were a breath of fresh air from hopping tiny planetoid to tiny planetoid, or racing through a 3D jungle gym / obstacle course composed of "floating" platforms, and grid system 3D Land / 3D World made them feel less like believable landscapes.
So Open World Zelda and Open World Mario, the true successors to Mario64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time. That GTA inspired New "Donk" City is especially cool, and something never done before. What is not to love about them?

The real travesty with hacked Pokemon is the people doing it traded hacked Pokemon out to players, both online and offline, so people who played legitamately got banned from online and tournaments simply because they traded in the past with a hacker. And the hackers quickly learned exactly what they could get away with in tourneys, so they built a stacked deck with all legal Pokemon with maxed legal stats, so that tourney players had to use "trainers" in order to compete with the hackers. Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Sorry, thats my company's name. So I get excited when people use the term.
First, I'm really enjoying classic-only play over the past year since I sold my Wii U. Second, as "great in its own way" the Wii was and how, ultimately, weak the Wii U was, I'm feeling pretty burnt by Nintendo on a TV-console level as of late (aka everything since n64; cube is cool but lost big time to PS2 that era).
Third, in a very un-Nintendo way, this has become a question of quality and not price. Looking back at having every Nintendo system, including handhelds, I can judge the quality of a system by my library. If it has 10 or fewer titles, it's a bust. If it has 20-30+ it's a winner.
The 3DS has been the very best system I've played over the last 5+ years. The library of games is so good that I'd still recommend anyone who hasn't played to get one and work through it for another 5 years, despite whatever else might take its place. On the other hand, in regards to TV consoles, Nintendo is all but dead to me.
I consider myself a big Zelda fan, but realize there needs to be a big distinction. I owned and played them all until Wind Waker, when they crammed the trendy early-2000s fad art style down our throats. I didn't buy it and largely ignored Zelda ever since, even though I still regard it as my favorite series (clearly I refer to the pre-2000 versions). I was incredibly disappointed to see the latest is also cell shaded, which brings back bad memories of when they lost me in the first place.
Wow, having typed this out, I'm thinking this is a skip all together and either hope for a true 3DS successor or that Nintendo attempts a better TV console next round.

Ever since I bought a first class Luxury train ticket aboard the old switch hype train, I feel super akward about my WiiU. Like, the collector in me that owns every other nintendo console wants to keep it, but the normal adult gamer in me hates it and thinks it sucks. The switch is kinda like the wiiU, just a lot better.
Or I could just bury it in the corner of the attic and sell it to some futuristic hipster in 30 years for the filthiest scalper price.

I dunno I am excited. I pre-ordered the switch and the new zelda game at my local game stop on Friday. I am looking forward to the new Sonic 2D adventure, the Mario Kart 8 deluxe (the most played Wii U game at my house to date) Skyrim (though I own it on PC and 360 I never really sat down and put time into it.) and the new Mario game in the fall. I think the price for it is great in the US. The only thing that bothered me was the severe lack of launch titles and titles for the rest of this year. I am the type of person though that will buy Nintendo just to play the next Mario and Zelda game. I just hope they really get some more games then they did for the Wii U.

So no Bomerman, Street Fighter II Ultra, and countless other throwbacks? Splatoon 2, ARMS, lotta goos stuff coming out besides Mario/Zelda.
32gb is fine unless it tries to install all the update data. Freaking lego dimensions update on wii u last time was over 6 gb and i had to go get a flash stick and move stuff over just to play more games. Some of these games update data are huge

According to the WSJ they're going to be around 16gb

My sentiments exactly.
