Because they release broken shit and have to patch half the game. Most Nintendo 1st party DLC updates have actually been quite lean.

I am looking forward to the new Sonic 2D adventure, the Mario Kart 8 deluxe (the most played Wii U game at my house to date) Skyrim (though I own it on PC and 360 I never really sat down and put time into it.) and the new Mario game in the fall. I think the price for it is great in the US. The only thing that bothered me was the severe lack of launch titles and titles for the rest of this year. I am the type of person though that will buy Nintendo just to play the next Mario and Zelda game. I just hope they really get some more games then they did for the Wii U.

So no Bomerman, Street Fighter II Ultra, and countless other throwbacks? Splatoon 2, ARMS, lotta goos stuff coming out besides Mario/Zelda.

Havent played Bomberman since the original, dont really care about street fighter.  I suck at competitive shooters, I dont know what to think about ARMS.  Didn't say there wasnt more good stuff coming out, just that Mario and Zelda is a good enough reason for me to pick up the new system.

  • I watched the entire presentation yesterday and truthfully didn't feel a tinge of excitement, even Breath of the Wild does not give me that "Aw I wanna play THAT!" feeling that I wish it did. I think Splatoon 2 looks gorgeous. Arms did not seem exciting to me at all, but maybe it is fun when you are actually playing it. I don't think I'd want to move my arms that much while playing a game though. It is cool the way the controllers break off the pad and can be used for 2 player games, but obviously those would be horrible controllers for certain games such as NBA2K. I thought the 1-2-Switch games and concept looked nerdy and embarassing, but I found the example of filling a glass with ice and water pretty interesting and would love to feel the sensation.

Overall my opinion is rather moot though as I have not owned a Nintendo product since the launch Game Boy Advance in 2001. Had I been 10 years old when this console was launching I'd probably have been really stoked.
  • No news for Europe. Again.
  • I saw that Nintendo posted an update saying that the sdcard standard they use supports up to 2tb cards. Hopefully they can update the firmware beyond 256 gb fairly easily.

Show me where there's a 2Tb SD card. 256Gb card still $150 buxx.

I know they are expensive now. They should come down in price if it is like any other type of storage. At least they acknowledge that they can expanded support beyond 256 gb.

Nintendo should really be allowing an external harddrive. If I wanted to spend too much on storage I would put a 500gb SSD in an external enclosure and use that.

Sadly they don't have a HDD bay on the switch tablet. Also seek latency may cause issues. Worse if you tried to use a hard disk and the Switch OS ignores file fragmentation, which is a non-existent issue on solid state storage.

  • I got a PS4 for Christmas,so I think I'm good on newer consoles for now. I love Nintendo and have enjoyed their products for many years, but the last Nintendo system I bought was the GBA SP. I (I have a Wii,but my wife bought it when we were dating.)

I simply haven't been that interested in getting any of their systems in the last 15+ years simply for the fact that most of the games for it didn't interest me.

Not knocking Nintendo at all (my niece got a WiiU for Christmas,it's fun) ,it's just....I need those "holy crap I have to play it!!!" games to get me to buy it.

One of the reasons why I even asked for a PS4 for Christmas was Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Builders,as well as DQH 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 4 (with MM X!) coming in the future. Sold!

How have you enjoyed DQ Builders so far?
  • Bestbuy.ca has the grey joycon console up for preorder again. Grab one if you didn't get one yet.
  • Man, if only all preorders were always this easy. Weird thing is Gamestop did not have any online at the time (looks like they have gray now), but when I clicked an email about preordering the Switch, it showed both versions available to preorder. Yes, got the Neon one

To add on, Gamestop has the gray one available to add to cart.

The new Zelda fits the bill for me. So does the new open world Mario. Finally after 20 years we have true spiritual sequels to Ocarina of Time and Mario 64.

So slimmer, lighter gamepad with equivalently sized screen. Maybe not lighter since I read a review that it was heavier, but certianly less bulk. Atari Lynx size was never an issue for me so I think I totally dig the new tablet controller. It's gonna look sweet in that new Zelda carry pouch from my LE preorder.

And that's fine by me. Wii-U was an awesome system. Switch takes everything good about the Wii-U and makes it better.

  • I was just able to pre-order from Target's website, my excitement is now through the roof.
  • According to the New Zealand EB Games website, it's going to be $550.

Each game is going to be $110, with the pro controller being $120. Ffs....

Personally, I'm going to wait for a price drop. Excited as hell, but I'm going to hold out for a bundle maybe two years down the line.

Was just reading Reggie had said 2 million units were going to be available at launch, probably why they are a little easier to come by!

Hopefully this will kill the dreams of scalpers and everyone who wants one will be able to get one!
  • I wonder why Nintendo didn't put a flavour of Android on the Switch. It would have given them access to the app store and all the apps that come with it.

Getting to play Hearthstone off a console would have been fun.  It would have also have Chrome/YouTube/Netflix all built in.

Yea I thought it wasn't too bad to get a preorder this time. I barely even tried and I got one. Won't stop scalpers though, I'm already seeing preorders on eBay for $500.

The funny thing is that there is little to no profit in that after fees and shipping. I think some flippers forget about fees and shipping, and even gas to pick their switch up. Add another $15-20 if they have it shipped to themselves.

The other thing working against it is the Wii U really stunk up the place. But if you look at this thing in a vacuum it's basically the true successor to the Wii, and I'd be shocked if it doesn't sell at least 40-50 million when all the dust is settled.

As for the lack of titles, Zelda & Mario alone make the lineup 10x better than the entire run of the Wii U. It takes a lot of time and money to develop good 1st or 3rd party titles, the window just wasn't there for developers to design for the system. Once the devs see the sales numbers (preorders already sold out everywhere), and start to figure out the new technology, the games and software will come. 2018-2019 are gonna be great for Switch. But hell I'd be happy with just next-gen zelda and mario on the go. I hear the screen is amazing as well, better than PSP which is def saying something if true.

If the Wii U was a train wreck, then the Switch is a plane crash on a train wreck.  Seriously though, the Switch is going to sell horribly (we're talking Bob-omb!, Bob-omb!).  Really, the only people who are going to buy it are diehard Nintendo fans that would buy any new piece of hardware released by Nintendo.  The casuals who bought Wii aren't going to buy the Switch because they are perfectly content with their free to play games on their smartphones and tablets.  Even though the 1-2 Switch game looks like a great party game that could entice casuals, Nintendo isn't including it as a bundle so casuals would have to spend $360 to play the game.  Not going to happen.

People gaming on their PC, PS4, or Xbox1 are probably very satisfied and won't bother buying a Switch just to play Mario or Zelda.   I truly believe that the total number of Nintendo fans are slowly dwindling as time passes on.  The fact that the Wii U only sold around 13 million is very telling.  Even though the Switch is a handheld/console hybrid and even with the proper Pokemon games eventually coming onto the Switch, I just don't see the Switch selling huge numbers.  There's no way the Switch is going to sell 40 million units.  I'd say that 30 million would be on the high end.  More realistically, it'll probably sell between 15-25 million.

I guess we'all have to wait and see, but I think it'll do a lot better then you think lol, you're acting like $300 is breaking the bank, like how cheap are people where you live lol. With inflation the switch is like the 4th cheapest console of consoles at launch. Half the people I know spend 400$ on a Friday night at a bar. I don't think 40 million is out of the question at all.

I 100% am buying the switch just for mario and zelda (and other exclusives) and I am willing to bet a significant amount of other gamers that mainly play on ps4/xb1 are the same.

According to currency converter, $550 NZD = $390 USD. That's a 30% upcarge on taxes and imports...
