It saddens me a bit because I appreciate the craft that the artists had to pull to entertain the public, but I do agree that the animal abuse part of the circus made it ugly.
This kinda saddens me. The media likes to point out and make some things that are bad into bigger things. But most people don't know that these animals involved while trained to do things they obviously don't do in the wild, are also well kept and well fed. Especially with well known circuses who are heavily watched and sanctioned. Yes, in the past animals were not treated well in the circus but this is the 21st century. And yes, I realize that there are circuses that are less well known and maybe don't treat their animals right. They should be punished and closed down. People want these animals in the wild but the truth is that there's nothing stopping the same animals from being hunted and killed for pelts and ivory, as well as any animal. My point is that we lost an art form. Sea world stopped doing their killer whale routine as well and those whales were extremely well taken care of and loved by both the trainers and the people watching. It's just sad to see something that brought so many people joy be taken away just because some people see it differently.

i have to agree w/ you on the peanut(s)
but i did not agree at what was done w/ the animal(s) tho ...
Yeah, being cruel to animals is nigh unacceptable.
The interest just isn't there anymore. There is just too much free entertainment on Youtube that trumps anything one can expect to see at a circus.
I think the internet led more to its demise than animal activists.

Yep. Reality TV is the new circus.
Sea World and its ilk should follow suit.
