NES Unlicensed Variant Questions
Okay, I have decided to expand my collection into the unlicensed aspect of the NES. However, I do not collect all the different variants, instead, I only want the hardest to find variant, and then it goes in my book as completed.
So basically, I have noticed that there are multiple colors game cartridges can come in, the most common from being Black or Blue in the Color dreams line of games. There are also label differences, etc.
Does anyone have an unlicensed variant chart, similiar to the five screw chart, that would be an easy representation to know what to look for? Or is one color just harder to find than the other in general?
Maybe it is somewhere on the site, but I couldnt find anything. Help on this would be great
Thanks!
Alex

Heres my list of the top rarities for black color dreams carts (there are other less rare variants not included in this list). In all cases the black cart is harder to find than the blue version except for secret scout.

Thanks, that is what I generally thought. Also, did color dreams only make a NTSC version game/box, and if not, is there a way to tell a difference vs Pal? Any other tips that would be good to know about unlicensed games?
there are no pal games from cd, however, lots were released in europe, which have stickers over the us boxes. the stickers are in french, so they are easy to spot. big one on the back over the game description and a small one on the front in the lower corner. the cart is the same though
Just assume Black cart is always harder to find and you will do fine 99% of the time. The only exception is Secret Scout.
And Captain Comic
In my experience the black captain comic is harder to find, not by much tho.
true dat ... and don't forget the blue upside down label
