Guess they're just giving up on punishing the PED abusers. Shit is too muddled as we entered the '90s
Except for poor old Mcgwire and Sosa, who have taken the fall for that entire era for some reason. Bagwell and Pudge were on all the gear too and yet they get a free pass. The entire thing is a fucking joke.
Thats the whole thing That I think is hilarious. I LOL at all the people that are like "NO TO EVIL PED USERS I VOTE BUFF BAGWELL" why the hell do you think his nickname was buff?
I'm pretty sure "Buff Bagwell" was a pro wrestler in the 90's and probably because of that the nickname was never used for Jeff Bagwell.

Except Clemens tried to keep his mouth shut and he was also blacklisted. Seems like everyone who wasn't an absolute superstar gets a pass but if you hit 600+ homeruns and win 350+ games then the writer's don't want you in because your numbers were too good during that era.
Historically, the MLB HOF voters don't put many in per year,if any. I know recently they had no one enshrined, which is laughable as the players that were voted in afterwards could've been put in at that time so they basically just wasted a year.

I heard it used repeatedly when I was younger specifically for him, I always thought it was because of the wrestler.

Interesting! Well he certainly was buff! I mostly watched baseball on TBS in the 90's so it was all braves at that time, maybe those broadcasters weren't as loose with the opponent's nicknames.

Diehard astros fan here. Been my whole life. Never have I ever heard Buff Bagwell when referring to Jeff Bagwell. That is made up. Maybe mr wonderful you are confusing late 90s TBS ads for Turner broadcasts of wrestling? He was not called buff bagwell. Thats a wrestler.

Oh so you must of been there with me on the playground when kids were trading baseball cards? Lol I heard it when I was a kid maybe it didn't get used elsewhere whatever. maybe the guys that were saying it had no idea what the hell they were talking about. Everyone where I was from is a Giants fan anyways, I don't really care. He use steroids and that's the end of it.
Maybe your buddies didnt know the difference between the 2.
he used steroids? Never a positive test. Not on the mitchell report. Not called out by canseco.
There isnt any shred of proof with bagwell. There is zero evidence and its just spevulation because of when he played. Bagwell wasnt an all power player. He was an all around hitter drove in runs.
Im oersonally sick of the steroid shit. Steroids dont help you hit a baseball. Let em all in.
I think Bagwell is connected in people's minds for 2 reasons. He was skinny early on and bulked up and started smashing the ball. He also played with Ken Caminiti who is thought to have been a major roider. Neither of those two are a smoking gun but it makes people wonder. Ivan Rodgriguez was also skinny young and bulked up early in his career. This doesn't mean he was a roider either, but people think he used again because of known roider teammates like Canseco and Caminiti and suspected roider Juan Gonzalez. I don't think those suspicions carry enough weight to hold them out or assume that they were "cheaters". I think it does matter when considering someone for HOF because the benefit of roids will turn warning track pop-outs into homeruns and also help with muscle recovery in the day to day grind of a season. I also think steroid use in that era shouldn't keep any players out of the HOF because it's likely that a lot of those players opponents were also using. The whole thing is just ugly and there is no way of knowing one way or the other. Baseball just needs to own it. Let them in and deal with it. Baseball wasn't doing anything to stop it, had very lax rules regarding it at the time, and they damn sure didn't mind fans falling in love with the game again after they were pissed and not watching after the '94? holdout season. I know I went all over the place there, but I do have mixed feelings on this.

Bagwell, Pudge, and Mussina...maybe Vlad. No one else will get in this year in my opinion.
Maybe Bagwell and Raines squeak in this year; Pudge maybe next year as he doesn't stick out as a first ballot HOFer.
EDIT: Misread your quote, but I could also see nobody being elected this year.
I was pretty close, especially with Pudge only getting 4 more votes than needed to be elected!
You were practically right on the money!
