So the WiiU is already getting pulled from store shelves? What about Zelda Breath of the Wild?

  • But at least it was manageable.
  • Well, I had trouble making it do the thing
  • Speaking of Twilight Princess, I still need to get the Wii-U remake. Never played either version, and kind of ironic it released on three consecutive consoles. I was hoping for a price reduction, but it appears to be disappearing from store shelves as well. If I wait any longer, will I get it on cheap clearance or have to fight the resellers? Maybe wait for a used copy?

I got two spare copies from Walmart on Black Friday: $25ea. Gave one to my nephew and passed the other on at-cost to a member here. They weren't marked $25 and they weren't mentioned in the advertisement so I can't remember what prompted me to check the price, but I was too lazy to check back and see if it was BF-only. May be worth checking your local Walmart.
  • So it's likely we'll have Wind Waker for $20 (Nintendo Selects) but not Twilight Princess   Part of me would like to have them but I dunno, are they really that much better than the GC ones?

They are if you never owned the Game Cube version? Or should skip Wii-U and track down the Game Cube variants? Didn't Nintendo improve the game engine/playability for the Wii-U ports, or are they purely a graphical upgrade? Game Cube Twilight Princess was a sleeper hit with arguably better controls from the Wii version. I do plan on picking up BOTW for Wii-U purely to collect but plan on actually playing the Switch version. I got Wind Waker for free with the Mario Kart 8 club Nintendo promotion. I'm glad they gave it a Selects release but I couldn't be bothered to finish it due to the large amount of traveling over sea, and I only played as far as the first three orbs. I think the terrain traversing of BOTW will be a lote more fun. I kinda dig the training wild horses thing, but it will be sad if I lose my favorite horse in battle...

Also Game cube games in general have been getting expensive lately, and I think the Zeldas will only rise in price from here out. That said, if they come out on Switch as Game Cube VC, that would be awesome. I imagine they'll be $15 considering N64 is $10 and Wii titles were $20 on Wii-U.
  • Of course I own both GC versions...I got the Wind Waker one right when it came out back when I was in college (no it's not for sale, sorry!)!   I simply meant are the upgrades/new stuff worth it? I don't do VC because I can get those on the Everdrives for free, not to mention I own most all the blue chip cartridges/discs for that system already anyway

Not to mention that deal I figured out where you can play GC/Wii isos on your Wii really helps in saving wear and tear on the system and protects my discs too (especially the ones I got in college that have sentimental value you see).  Now if I can just figure out how to do that sort of thing with PS1 isos on the PS2...
  • They probably ended the Wii U to make room for the Switch in stores and they also realize what a good alternative a Wii U will be to the Switch and dont want it taking away from sales. Most of the games are ports of older Wii U games, games for other consoles, or ones that won't sell the system. As much as I love Nintendo there is basically zero incentive to buy at launch. If they pull the Wii U servers I'll be furious and will likely boycott Nintendo... Although I don't see that happening anytime soon.

LOL, my Wii-U is homebrew free due to all the software I own for it. My old Wii was on it's last leg before I transfered everything to Wii-U. I may attempt to reformat my Wii prior to installing the homebrew channel on it. The Gamecube ISO thing sounds enticing, and I got the controller ports. Also used Wiis are cheap as sin right now.

they pulled the Wii servers much later than the WiiU launch so I can't see that happening. I agree with the sentiment that there's no reason to buy at launch as well

I know for Wind Waker they changed some things. A speed sale to make sailing less tedious, modified triforce quest because everyone hated that, and I wanna say they added a hard mode where you lose more health from enemies

Also the graphical upgrades on the Wii-U ports are pretty with nearly infinite draw distance (I can see stuff on islands from miles out with Wind Waker HD) and I imagine both have extra polish to the gameplay. Also is the map in Twilight flipped like Game Cube or Wii? And I imagine with Switch getting Game Cube VC, they will be 480p originals at upscaled to 960x720 on the tablet or 1440x1080 on the big screen. We don't know yet if they upscale the games or keep it 480p stock like N64 VC.

Since the Switch will be incapable of supporting Wiimote pointers or emulating Wii games, it would be a nice gesture to recieve HD remakes of popular Wii titles, similar to the HD Zelda ports or "New play control" Wii titles. I would love to see a Mario Galaxy HD 2-games-in-1, since a third entry in the series isn't currently on the cards.

  • Why would it be incapable? They're just bluetooth controllers, Tegra has bluetooth. Perhaps Nintendo doesn't add software support, but then it'll be available for homebrew anyway.

Nintendo has chosen not to support old Wii controllers. Also we don't know for sure if the controllers use Bluetooth or some other standard to connect, but the Switch controllers are likely Bluetooth standard or a derivative.

Wiimote pointers require a IR sensor bar type device, and holding the joycon upside down to use the IR camera would be awkward at best. I just think port of Mario Galaxy 1/2 HD would be neat, but they need to figure out the pointer to collect Star Bits. Perhaps swiping on the tablet would work in tablet mode, and the right analog to move the pointer around when docked. L/R Triggers could be utilize to shoot starbits or grab.

Finally found the post where someone was asking about this and it turns out that it's my buddy, Kosmic.

Hope it's not too late, but I've been seeing it at Best Buy for $36.xx all week. It might go back up tomorrow.

$36.xx for just the game or Game+Amiibo? The Game+Amiibo is still $48+tax (GCU) at least online.

I picked it up today even though it wasn't on sale/clearance. Because when it does that'll likely be the last hurrah in retail before reseller valhalla lol. I like how the Wolf Link amiibo unlocks some nifty content on both TP and BOTW.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna check one of my local Best Buys today. They have three in stock. The other have none.

I think another sleeper hit will be Half Genie Hero. Late release Indie game turned physical. Possibly online only. It may become pretty rare someday. Funny there is a thread on "last Wii games" but Wii-U stuff is getting shoved out the door.

  • They do quite a good job explaining all the GC vs WiiU changes:

    https://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_The_Wind_Waker_HD

    https://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess_HD

If I can find them both new for $20 each I might bite if I got the spare change at the time

GameXChange had a minty CIB copy of Twilight Princess HD but with the Amiibo going for $25 online, I would get locked out of some of the content or pay more for it later. I picked up Twilight Princess HD at Best Buy around 6pm this evening. They had one copy left on the shelf that was beat as hell box, for $60. Fortunatey the gme case and Amiibo were still minty so all is good. At least I know if there's never going to be a Selects Edition, I don't have to feed the Scalpers out of my ass later...

So I guess the price did go back up.

I forgot to mention the price tag. The GameXChange copy was $47 used CIB without the Amiibo, typical $3 off retail price for games still in production. So not really a savings considering Wolf Link is hard to find by itself.
