Must have been challenging getting it into your home then

Maybe I sandwiched it between two other games.  You don't know me.
  • In all seriousness I would just listen to the soundtrack and not play game.

Secret of Mana for example, worst piece of shit I have ever played but I will listen to the soundtrack, same with Chrono Trigger.
  • Hotline Miami. While I wouldn't say the game sucks, it is hard as balls.

You're trying to pop a vein in Guntz's forehead, aren't you?

I actually think several songs in Action 52 are catchy. Too bad most of them were stolen.

  • Eh... I think Star Fox on SNES is pretty bad, too. Can't recall what the music sounds like, though. Been a while since I've played it.

QFT. This is a high quality hot take. Well done my friend.

Hahahahah I actually love those games, I figured people would probably see through my bullshit.

    The soundtrack is great imo
  • NES Sword Master
  • Back to the Future NES
  • Sonic R   Soundtrack is maybe 75% the reason I play that game.

I really like a bunch of tracks from the modern Sonic games too, and a bunch of them are terrible. The Sonic Heroes theme is so damn catchy.
  • BMX XXX is pretty bad, but I enjoyed the song selection.
  • Lagoon has one of the tightest title tracks, but I hate the game even though it's not the worst.
  • Albert Odyssey : Legend of Eldean certainly does NOT suck. However, it's a fairly generic and forgettable, although enjoyable RPG. Today, it wouldn't get far at all, but that soundtrack... HEAVENLY

  • Ecco the Dolphin and the sequel. Not that the games suck, but they're a bit too tedious imo.

The graphics and music are fantastic, though. Some of the best on the Genesis.

    Wonderful soundtrack!

    Worth hunting

  • Rise of the robots for SNES. Pretty catchy tunes on there.
  • Chrono Cross was the first thing that came to mind.

As far as the DKC series goes, the SNES ones have excellent gameplay, tight controls, and excellent soundtracks. The Wii one has loose controls, slightly above average gameplay, and a below-average soundtrack. I really want to play the Wii U one though. And I love the gameplay of Secret of Mana, damnit.

Love the original trilogy. Returns was a dissapointment.

tropical freeze was much better than returns for me. Music is the best on the wii u. Listen to that soundtrack all the time.

Damn that's a great example.  The game is just not good, and a massive, massive letdown being the supposed sequel to Chrono Trigger.  But damn the soundtrack is incredible.

Interesting... I've not played that game so I can't vouch for it, but it rated VERY well by all review sites when it came out.  If I recall, IGN gave it a 10 and back then those were rare.
  • I mean mechanically it's not a bad game, but the story and characters are incredibly weak and forgettable. It doesn't help that there are like 40 characters for some reason, all of which have minimal if any story. A RPG needs a good story and characters to get a good rating from me, and from that standpoint Chrono Cross is a dud, and a huge letdown compared to Chrono Trigger.

I didn't give any shit about Serge or anyone else in the game. But holy shit it does have an awesome soundtrack, if only the rest of the game could live up to it.

A 10 is ... extremely generous. Even for the time. 3D high budget RPGs were still a new 'thing' back then, so it was the shiny new thing to IGN I guess.

Wasn't that the game Sewart from EGM got hate mail for months for not giving it a perfect score? (I think he was the only one that gave a 9.5 and not a 10 as the other reviewers did)

Interesting theory.  Zelda OOT had already been out for about a year.  I know that's not apples to apples, but they are close enough.  CC is on my backlog of games to play and... checking... yes, it's not on my short PS1 stack by my console.  I guess I'll keep it on my shelf and give it a try after I finish Xenogears, Einhander and Vagrant Story.

Probably. I literally hate IGN now. To many times are reviews just filled with nonsense. I was reading a review on parasite eve 2 which got a 6.9 and one of the guys complaints was that you had to backtrack and actually use items and keys to unlock doors. "why can't you just shoot the lock off"?  Like dude seriously? It is a game. You work at IGN, you should understand how they work.

I actually liked chrono cross a lot. I just didn't like it as a CT sequel. Not a 10 i don't think though. Maybe a solid 8 or 9. (< insert penis joke here)

The soundtrack is easily one of the best. I honestly think it is even better than CT.

Beats me, but I knew a lot of Chrono Trigger fans who were a bit disappointed (myself included).

I even got this game for my birthday (only a few days after release), and I did play through it and get all the characters. I would call it more of a soild 7, and that's only because its experimental oddness has grown on me.

    Good info here.

"...it appears that Chrono Cross simply did not sell well enough to continue the series. In 2009, Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto remarked, “If people want a sequel, they should buy more!” (Director) Masato Kato was never given a project the scale of Chrono Cross again, and returned to working as a writer."

  • I will not derail my own thread, I will not derail my own thread....

But I'm listening to the OST to Dragon Quest VIII and I must admit it's quickly becoming one of my MOST favorite OSTs for just about anything. Games, movies, albums in general. The music is just so epic, pastoral and down right phenomenal.

I say I won't derail my own thread cause I actually quite enjoyed the game too. It's the only DQ game I've ever played and it makes me want more, though I've never gotten around to it.
