So what exactly is the sequence of the Tales of... series now? So far I've only done the first one (ToP) and do have the classic/fan-favorite Tales of Symphonia for GC (both the real discs and the "Wii Everdrive" versions) but right now I'm more in a 16-bit mood.

Theres quite a few, if you want a good 16 bit one play Phantasia(1st game in Japan) if you havnt or Eternia(Destiny 2 in US). Destiny is also great! Probably considered 32 bit i guess tho.
The US main game line up is as follows i believe.
1. Tales of Destiny-PS1
2. Tales or Destiny II-PS1(Eternia, can also get UK import for PSP!)
3. Tales of Symphonia-Gamecube(on ps3 also!)
4. Tales of Legendia-PS2
5. Tales of the Abyss-PS2(on 3ds also!)
6. Tales of Phantasia-GBA
7. Tales of Vesperia-Xbox 360
8. Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a new World-Wii(Also on PS3!)
9. Tales of Graces F-PS3
10. Tales of Xillia-PS3
11. Tales of Xillia 2-PS3
12. Tales of Hearts R-Vita
13. Tales of Zestiria-PS3/PS4
14. Tales of Berseria-PS4
Theres a few we didnt get here like Tales of Innocence & Rebirth which i think rounds out the main series then there a few spin offs. We did get one of the Tales of the World games for PSP in Radiant Mythology but theres a bunch of others in Japan.

Lol, sorta sarcasm. I think Toxie was bustin my chops!
I did do ToP on SNES...because I heard the GBA port is rather lousy and no doubt heavily censored (I'm guessing Arche doesn't do any little favors in the cargo hold in that version!!). Does the Wii version of Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a New World (sequel of ToS, right?) allow traditional controls or are you force to wave around your Remote/Numchuck?

Yeah, SNES version is the version to play! Definitely worth getting a good repro of!
Pretty sure you can use regular controls. I think i remember using the classic pro controller or whatever. It is a sequel though not as good as the first i would say.
I've never played a Tales game before but I know they're popular. Is there a series you'd say is comparable to it so I could get a gauge on how much interest I would have in it? I saw Arc Rise Fantasia mentioned earlier and I have played that and thought it was ok at best.

Very similar to arc rise, i'd say the tales games are better though. If you've played any of the star oceans they are pretty similar in style and gameplay as well.
I haven't. I'm pretty lacking in the RPG department, I know. Trying to remedy that a bit. I'm into stuff like Final Fantasy and Ys. More traditional and action oriented stuff. I've got games like Megadimension Neptunia VII and Omega Quintet that I find are okay but don't put a lot of time into.
Id say the Star Ocean & Tales games are worth a go more than the Hyperdimension games and stuff like Omega Quintet. Those are some of the more mundane rpgs i tend to skip over like the Atelier series! Love me some Ys though and most Final Fantasy games! If you like Ys you may be able to get into Tales. The battle system is straight action oriented almost like a fighting game to where you hit the attack button with different directions to do different attacks and string em together with stronger special attacks called artes. Star Ocean plays alot like that as well. If you have a psp check out the 1st 2 Star Ocean games on there! Great games! And Ys VII!! Probably my favorite PSP & Ys game!!
That battle system sounds interesting. Maybe I'll check out some gameplay videos today to get a better feel for what you're talking about. Thanks for the responses.

I do have Arf Teenieleaky Quoneloaf Knelp of Arnie Clep now that you mention it. I really didnt get too far into it though. Pretty bland and uninspired. I need a little more zippy pop in my role jammys to keep me disc slappin.

So you'd rather play Time and Eternity?
I'd rather play 7th Saga and Mystic Quest back to back and die unsatisfied.

That would be a cruel self inflicted death...
Thats the struggle! Trying to survive through lackluster rpgs so others dont have to.
Okay, because of you guys and videos I watched, I bought the game yesterday. I had stuff going on and by the time I sat down with it, I decided I was too drunk to play it... I'm hoping to actually play the game later tonight after my current SNES completion game. The gameplay looks fun, the story seems interesting, and I love games where you can level up and (in the end) you can't lose if you're dedicated. So, I'm hoping to really enjoy this game and find out why people have been praising the Tales series for many years. Again, thanks for commenting back to me and trying to help me decide whether or not to get this game.

Wow! Just jumpin right into the series with Berseria huh!? I hope you are into it! I've only managed to put a couples into it so far cuz i've been busy packing and things this weekend but i was just about to dive back into it for a couple more hours! Definitely a different start for a Tales game but im liking it so far. The battle system is a little switched up from previous entries but still pretty fun!

Just snagged these 2 posters 2!!
nice promo Stuff! eBay?
My tales collection is really meager compared to the various ones I've seen.
Yeah, bought 4 posters from the same person so he actually gave me a pretty sweet deal and knocked off $40 from each posters asking price!

Tales games are multiplayer BTW.
