Nostalgic Machine is a term I started throwing around in early 2009, and it eventually because the name of a fusion group I wrote and played bass/vocals for.
It accurately describes my obsession with human psychology and all things "retro"
Back in the day I used to go by RoyalAssassin, until someone on another forum had claimed to be the ultimate hacker and was bragging about his latest hack. Well, everyone was getting sick of him, so I hacked his forum account and changed his password and made a post about doing so. He was so upset, he made a new forum account to admit his defeat and gave me his handle.
Or... I joined a site called Final Fantasy Addicts in the early 2000's (may have even been 1999), and Dragoon was taken, so I used the number substitution things and haven't changed it since.
AIM back in the day. I tried several screen names and they were all taken. This was the only one I could think of that wasn't taken. I've been using it for stuff ever since.
mine is just because I Love Zelda. I've always used the name Maimel, because Mai was my favorite character from Avatar the last Airbender. But I decided since it was a Nintendo based site, I'd go with my favorite man Link is bad ahaha
This thread made me think of a previous handle I used and since I've already explained my current user name I figured I would add with the story of my old Xbox handle:

I am a James Bond fanatic in addition to my love of the NES and if you read the name upside down, it spells out 007jamesbond. I was sick of everyone asking why I had such a weird (and unpronounceable) name so I switched to JamesRobot in the mid 2000s
Rhymes with my first name, can't remember how it originated but at some point I decided that if I was a professional fighter I would walk out to "JOOOAAAQQQUIIINNNNNNNNNN......THEEEEEEE DRRRRREEEAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!" and I've been using it as a handle ever since.
So, this started in college. This young lady told me that I look like actor Sean Gunn. It spread rapidly. Sean Gunn's most famous role is "Kirk" from the show "Gilmore Girls." It was on the air and popular with the girls at my college. I just decided to run with it. It's been my handle ever since.
Mine actually comes from my nickname. I went to school for sound/AV production. As i was interning with a band while in college, there were alot of people with the same name in their circle, so after a while they just started going by the name in my email address (Possum) as my name. As i got into working in that same scene after college, the name stuck and 13 years later people still call me that.
