My DS collection so far
I'm not sure how many I have, but this is all of them minus about 50 first-party sealed dupes I have tucked away. I'd say I'm at or slightly over 500 now. There's probably 30 or so dupes and variations in this lot as well.

I realize some games will appreciate after release, but I hate seeing items depreciate.
Enough open thinking on pricing/value.
nice collection man
What are some of the highlights of that collection man? Awesome by the way.
I'd say my sealed first-party set, some of the rares like Elektroplankton, Tingle's Balloon Fight, a few Club Nintendo releases, some of the rarer 2-in-1 packs and exclusives. I'll try and takes some more pics of the nicer items.
Holy cow thats a lot of new era stuff! I try to stay away from the new stuff until the value stops dropping, and begins appreciating.
You're falling behind then, because there are many games that have already become quite rare and have appreciated in value.
DS is one of those sets that has so many low-run games that I will predict that it will be one of the more collectible systems down the road. It's popularity alone is a good indicator of this as well, IMO.
nice dain you get a chance to actually play all those yet??
I've probably played about half of them. DS is the system played the most in my household, simply because my wife loves it and we'll play together quite a bit.
Unfortunately,
roughly half of those games are things like Hannah Montana and *goes to
look at ebgames.com* ...Fashion Week Junior Designer? Ye gods.
You're right, there are a lot of games released for girls (and boys) under the age of 12 and that's probably one reason why this system will be even more collectible in the future: you'll now have guy AND girl collectors to compete with. This goes for all age groups though, as the DS tends to cater to just about any age group and any gamer types from the stone-aged puzzle people (me) to the young whipper-snapper hardcore gamers (not me, anymore).
The problem is that many of the best games simply aren't released in great enough numbers to get noticed, so you're left with (literally) hundreds of games that you've never heard of. And stores like Best Buy, etc, typically stock games with branding they know will sell, like Hannah Montana. In my experience with DS collecting, you'll quickly find that *most* games are not available in stores, so I can certainly understand your perception of it being a "kiddie" system.

That's the only point I'd contend with. I've never met a girl who didn't like NES Marios, and NES had Barbie too (not to mention plenty of young kid games like Color A Dino, Sesame Street, Fischer Price, etc.). Maybe there's more girl-themed games now, but assuming the current ratio is about 95% guys, I'd be surprised if it drops down past 90%.
I do agree with the DS being collectible in the future, though I've only bought DS games that I'd like to play or at least try (have about 20). All of the elements are there.
Plenty of obscure games with low print runs? Check. Electrobrain and Elf Bowling are great examples.
Plenty of RPGs? Check. Final Fantasys, Chrono Trigger remake, Dragon Quests, and plenty more obscure ones I don't even know about
Remakes of popular titles? Ninja Gaiden, Mario Party, Contra 4, Resident Evil, GTA.... just about every popular franchise has a game on the DS.
Huge fanbase? Already noted.
Beginning of franchise that will extend well into the future? Professor Hatsworth and the Curious Villiage is quite fun with already 2 confirmed sequels, and I'd be surprised if Henry Hatsworth does not have a sequel too. Not to mention each of these games are unique and might actually inspire a whole new GENRE of games (Detective Puzzle and Puzzle / Adventure hybrid), which is something we haven't seen since Guitar Hero became the poster boy of the music genre.
But only time will tell.
Does that mean this is really her DS collection and you just claim its' yours?
Hardly any DS games are worth much money yet though. I'd love to see a list of more than 5 DS games that are worth more than original MSRP.
Surely you're kidding? I bet I could name at least 50. Any sealed first-party game that's no longer available is already over MSRP, so that's at least 10 there.
Edit: one thing to note is the sale prices of *legit* games -- you have to wade through all the pirate crap on ebay to find the real gems.
Nice collection Dain, but what's up with the Nancy sticker or whatever it is?

She does play more than me, so perhaps! I've noticed she never complains when I buy DS games.
The "Nancy" in that picture is the Best Buy (exclusive?) Nancy Drew promo pack that includes a book. It's similar to the Goosebumps one (sitting next to it in the pic), also available at Best Buy.

50? Really? I can't think of more than 5 or maybe 10. I've got over 150 games myself and would like to believe that but I haven't seen that. And I believe I have all of the "big" games

That doesn't even count the DS demos either, some of those are commanding crazy prices for a new system. There are several demos that only 1 or 2 copies have surfaced at all for sell yet.

Yeah, I'd love to see figures for those 50 games, because if you're right, I must have been buying my games on the wrong sites.

As an aside, many of these games are still available in stores by me.
Another thing to analyze though, is since they are making the packaging to these games less likely to be trashed (DS case VS original Gameboy game packaging) there is more supply for CIB, so the prices of DS complete won't escalate as high as some of the rares for the original gameboy. IMO.
