I need to play through it again. I didn't like the lack of an overworked, and I felt like the levels were much more linear. Galaxy 1 was still more linear then 64 but not to the extent Galaxy 2 was. Although Galaxy 2 did have some interesting platforming and good powerups. Yoshi was fun to control as well. They're both worth a play but I prefer 1
Galaxy 1 & 2 were both pretty linear, but I know what you mean. The hub area in Galaxy 1 was bigger and better than the tiny Mario Spaceship of Galaxy 2 and selecting levels on a linear map. As far as level design and progression goes, both were on the linear side. I think Galaxy 2 had a lot of great level designs though, but I still prefer Galaxy 1, it just seemed more fun for some reason.
Looks like people covered most of my suggestions already. Here is what I can add:
Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop - A good downport of the first Dead Rising game. It borrows the control scheme from RE4 Wii version and focuses more heavily on guns than melee.
Red Steel 2 - The sequel drops the modern action John Woo-esque setting for a full-on cel shaded gun & sword anime wild west setting. The game makes excellent use of the Wii motion-plus accessory.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom - A 2D Capcom fighting game that is still a Wii exclusive.
Cursed Mountain/The Calling - Decent, but flawed, survival horror games exclusive to the Wii.
Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands - Completely different game from the 360/PS3 version. If you like Sands of Time you should like this game.
Deadly Creatures - Someone watched Planet Earth and thought "Hey, lets make a game about critters straight up murder-eating each other."
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - This game got a port to the PS2/PSP, but the Wii version outshines both in graphics/performance.
Ghostbusters - A downport of the PS3/360 game. What sets it apart is the devs choosing to replace the realistic graphics of the PS3/360 system with a simplier cartoony style reminicent of the Ghostbusters animated series. The wiimotes complement the proton pack control scheme quite well.
Unfortunately I never have friends over lol. Just me and my wife, loners that we are.
I've played the hell out of RE4 on other consoles, many times, so dunno that I wanna revisit it, even if the controls are different enough that it might be the best version of the game, I've just played it so much I think I'd rather experience something new.
you can really enjoy the wii sports games solo as well. the music/atmosphere/pace those games have, especially golf, put you in this relaxed zen mood.

you know, I haven't touched the game since the Wiis launch. You're right about the atmosphere, very nice and relaxing. Golf is easily the best game in the pack. Not sure where my copy went but it's dirt cheap so maybe if I see it again I'll grab it.
Speaking of Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort is great too. The sports are hit and miss (the hits like golf or sword fighting are still very good) but it's the piloting game that got me. You just fly a plane around Wuhu Island and search for 240 balloons hidden all over the place. It's so simple but one of my most memorable experiences with the Wii.
Wii sports is about as simple as you can get. But they did add tiny details to make it interesting. Its been a while so I don't remember everything but it wasn't just jerk off the controller and win
Are the sports games simple fun like they used to be? Or will I be confused like that one time I tried to play a football game? Lol.
The only one that requires even a bit of nuance is boxing, the rest are super natural and grandma-easy to play. If you have trouble with football games try Jerry Rice & Nitus' Dog Football You literally just point where you want the dog with the ball to go and sometimes it listens to you, sometimes it just kind of does its own thing!
So far the 3DS has been underwhelming for me. I like Zelda LBW and Pokémon Sun/Moon a lot, but everything else I've tried I didn't like all that much
I know it's the obvious first party recommendation stuff, but have you played Animal Crossing or Super Mario 3D Land? Both are crazy good. Looking back, I really haven't played tons of games on 3DS. I've just played the good ones a whole heck of a lot (and a used the backwards compatibility a lot!).

Super Mario 3D Land, yes, I do enjoy it, but I just feel like that kinda game works better on a console. It's hard to get used to the platforming with the circle pad. Just playing through the levels is fun but trying to get the star coins is a bit of a pain. I did enjoy it but not as much as I thought I would.
Animal Crossing I haven't played. Never played any games in the series actually, it looks interesting though. How is it compared to other games in the series? I have the GameCube one, would I like the 3DS one if I like that one? I'd rather try that since I already have it

Every one is almost identical, I guess the 3DS one has the most new features though. Animal Crossing New Leaf wins in playability because it's portable, the touch screen is so much better for inventory management than a pause screen, and the type of game you'd want to open your DS and play for a few minutes rather than marathon for hours in the living room. Animal Crossing is probably my overall favorite of them though because you can collect NES games!

yeah re-check it out. see if you can bowl a perfect game.

yeah that's all I need in a handheld game. Something I can pop in and out of any time and have fun for a few minutes. Perhaps I'll check it out collecting NES games does sound cool though. Tough decisions here

simple fun. they were designed to be playable by old people and little kids who don't know how to use a gamepad.
