I'm almost through it and agree. I wouldn't call it bad just very very mediocre. Like nothing memorable at all.

Edit: it's a shame because I feel like the whip could have led to some pretty cool mechanics if handled differently.
  • I am also working on my DS collection right now. If there are others that want to trade extras with me, I'd be glad to do so. I'm at about 410 right now (Just 1400+ to go!). I'm collecting them complete so not many loose extras.
  • Final DS & 3DS collection shot before getting smooshed in boxes   not sure when i'll see again. Starting to have the feels for moving but i am excited to set up a new game room   may just take a little while!

For real?   how come? Is it cuz its not alphabetical? I keep games seperate in hori cases(pic) so i can easily get at em. So not having it alphabetical doesnt bother me. Would bother me more with jumbled colors!

Very nice! You find any new cool hidden gems on either system?
  • Not really, beyond Elebits and stuff we had talked about. I did just finally snag Blue Dragon Awakended Shadow, Thor & Full Metal Alchemist Dual Sympathy. Dual Sympathy looks to be a pretty fun little beat em up. Have never watched the anime but game looks fun. I had alot of fun with Viewtiful Joe for DS which i never really hear people mention. And just now playing Centipede Infestation which even though not the best of the twin stick style genre is a pretty cool game to have for 3ds. Kinda like Alien Chaos 3d, fun to have those more arcady games to pop in for quick spurts. Been really into Way Forward lately so i've been trying to pick some of their games i missed like Centipede and Thor.

I use those same Hori cases too!  I hold DS/3DS NFR carts in mine, but ya know... twins!  I actually just added a second 3DS case because I finally ran out of space for the 3DS demos with my last purchase.

  • ^^^Sweet! I really like em!! Seems like the black DS ones were getting harder to come by so my DS spills over into 3DS cases! Sorta seperate em by genre, RPGs in one, then Strategy RPGs, Platformers, ect... Im about to fill up my last one so i should probably snag a couple more!
  • My second 3DS case (not pictured) is a black/smoke one like most of the DS cases. I've not been able to keep with a single color for my cases for a long time because by the time I need another one, I can't get the color or they've gone out of production. My last amazon purchase of them, I ended up just buying two so that I didn't run into that problem with the 3DS (not that they'll get out that many more NRFs for the system). All mine are alphabetical because it's just easier to find the games that way.

Oh, i did just play Noitu Love: Devolution which i thought was pretty fun! One of those digital games i wish got a physical release! I wish Limited Run did 3DS releases! May not be for you since you do have to use stylus controls and i think you said you didnt like those but figured i'd throw it out there anyway! Thought it was cool and unique.

Trailer if you havnt checked it out, also on Wii U:

I'm definitely not against it I'm just so used to the jumbled colors.   I've seen it done with NES games too. It's one of the reasons I went cart only for my NES games

Just added new carts to cases and organized em a bit. Officially 1 over and i got a few more games on the way so its time to snag more cases!   would be a little more over than this even but some of my games are still sealed like Langrisser, Dark Spire & them 3 Japanese "Tales of" games. Heres how i have em in their cases(have Kirby Triple Deluxe loaned to my cousin & Mario 3D Land to my brother which would be in the 2 blank spaces):

  • That is Master of the Monster Lair. You know i had that and Joker 2 and i traded em away in a bundle with the 2 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles games and a bunch of other stuff. Would like to get them all back though!   Have you played Chocobo Tales? I was wondering if its any good?

Yes I have actually. It's on my list of hidden DS gems, so yes I say it's good. It's not final fantasy. Don't go in expecting that. Think of it as a cross between mario party minigames and elements of card games like yu-gi-oh. Plus you get to play as a freaking chocobo!! Oh, and it's still cheap IIRC.

  • No pics, but I think that I am sitting at 70-80 DS titles, mostly RPGs. It's likely as new as I am ever going to get in terms of dedicated collecting. The 3DS is nice, but I have yet to play anything for it and feel like I missed the boat on the Collector's Editions, so I likely will only buy what I'll strictly play. I've been picking up DS titles for years, but am just now starting to play some more of them. I just finished Nostalgia in January, and will likely give Black Sigil another go pretty soon. Such a neat system!

Edit: Oh, and picking up missing manuals sucks! I usually just have to buy a CIB and then try and sell or trade the duplicate since they never show up for sale.

Very nice! Was nostalgia any good? I still don't have that one. I feel you pain with the manuals and cases stuff. I'm missing manuals and cases for probably 20-30 DS games. It's a real pain. I do the same thing you do though. I buy games when they're cheap even if I won't play them right away because most games end up increasing in price as the years go on, especially RPGs and anything Nintendo.

Nostalgia was not good... but then again I put fifty hours into and also teared up at one point, so there is that. It was good in many ways, and I learned a lot from playing it regarding design, but it was too easy. There was no balancing, in terms of difficulty. I had played it when it first came out and put it aside for that reason, but I was glad that I stuck it out this time. It wears its flaws on its sleeve, but it's worth playing.

I have about a hundred spare DS cases/inserts and even more manuals, so if you're looking for anything let me know!

Gotcha. Looks like I'll keep that off the list then. Doesn't look too great. I just pm'ed you btw. I'm looking for tons of manuals and cases and no one ever seems to have them.

It wasn't that it wasn't good. The setting is novel, and an interesting place to be, but the lack of challenge made it difficult to maintain interest. It was an odd experience, since I have not really played a full RPG that was that easy, but without some difficulty you end up feeling like you're just walking through it (and that walking away would not be a big loss). I would imagine that using cheats would feel the same way. The neighbors used to do that with FFIV and I could never understand how it would be fun to play when you were level 99 after the first battle. Anyways, the rest of the game was interesting enough that it was worth sticking with, and everything else was also really well done. Story, setting, sidequests, characters (eventually), exploration, the whole deal except for the challenge. I played Breath of Fire right after and it was a pretty stark comparison in terms of them nailing the challenge with that one way back in '93 or whenever. Even though the rest of the game was pretty bland, that aspect felt dead on and kept my engagement. I don't know, things that I need to develop a bit further, but I'd give Nostalgia a shot. There is tons to do in the game, and even if it does try to act as a synthesis of everything an RPG can be, it does most of those things right.

  • Was playin Hoppie recently and noticed it wasn't in the DS registry here. Not sure who updates them but figured i'd mention it. Pic for reference:

  • I'll add it now.  I have noticed many missing DS games.  I might take a more serious look at the gaps later this week
