  • Last night's episode was pretty good. Those that follow the comics know what happens in the upcoming storylines and it really should make for some excellent viewing.

Overall I'm still intrigued as ever, but am a bit irritated with the silo'd episodes hopping from place to place - seemingly next week with the hilltop too, and then likely back to the Kingdom. That's going to be half a season there, with minimal integration of the different areas at this point, really feeling drug out so far but I suppose necessary to build out the storyline. Really wish they'd hop back and forth across a few different stories in a single episode.

Great that this one was a 90 minute episode, but it felt like 40 minutes of commercials.

Ah, that is the worst part of getting into the comic book. But hey, you may dig this if you are a Chappelle fan -

Funny stuff. What a shame his show came to an end.

    I agree 100%.

The commericials were ridiculous. It felt like it was still a 1 hr show but with more commercials. The language caught me off guard... I was like, did he just say that? The show has slowed down, but I suppose it is to build all the places up and lay the groundwork for what is to come.
  • I would expect they'll drag the Negan saga out over a few seasons. Lots of time for filler and more bogus story lines that deviate from the books.

I hate sounding so sour about the show, but the damn comics ruined it for me haha.

Why did you read that shit now lol. Im waiting till its caught up to the books atleast before Id read them. That way I can enjoy each for what they are.

    Hahaha, so true.

The show will never catch up though. The show is at about issue 100 of the comic, which is up to issue 150 something. They add enough stuff to stretch it out.

then ill wait till its done
  • I am losing interest in this season. I don't like how thry ard covering one part of the groups story per episode. Next up: Eugene and Rosita and Tara begin to create a plan to make ammo. On the episode after that: Rock realizes the group is out of razors. They go on a quest to locate razors as a gift to Negan so he can shave. After that: Coral realizes he locked Jesus and himself in the box truck and try to find a way out. Meh...

The storyline has its moments, but splitting it up into episodes deciated to a few characters is making this drag out. I don't even remember anyones name from the Kingdom except King Ezekiel.

It's just Ezekiel, innit? I hate to sound like a broken record but your complaint is just one more reason to read the comic. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. And you'll get some excellent storytelling too!

I hear ya, it is kinda lame that they're jumping location for each episode.  I miss where they would do this, but like 15 mins per location and switch around to keep all the moving parts moving.  I think they are basically rebuilding the storyline now after the dramatic opener to focus on the 4 non-savior locations - Alexandria, Kindgom, Hilltop, Crazy-Chick "shoot ya on the spot" Land (idk the name lol).

I don't read the comics but know the story enough to know about the upcoming "All-Out War".  It's clear that all these communities are going to team up against the Saviors and that seems to be the reasoning for building up the story for all the different locations and hopefully they'll start to intertwine them.

I did find it awesome that Jesus had the balls to jump in the back of the "Negan Truck", just to find Carl already there.  I've heard some rumblings of a Negan/Carl relationship of sorts from the comics so I wonder if that is going to come to fruition.

I actually was too busy last week to watch, so I had a 2-hour mini marathon last night and it helped the one-location-per-episode issue for me.

Cool to see Jesus actually do some ninja stuff and to see that Tara is okay (but super lucky to survive).  I'm sure Heath will return as well.

All-in-all I'm enjoying this season a lot, but really do not like the one-location-per-episode stuff.  Hoping it all comes together nicely to make it worth the wait.

  • Last week's episode had a scene filmed at MeadowView Convenience Store right outside my childhood home where my mother still lives (about a block away and less than 7 minutes away from where I live now). It was used for all the stuff with Carl and Enid at the abandoned gas station and the scene where they walk down the street. I used to play a Killer Instinct arcade machine there but the place has been abandoned for almost 20 years. That empty payphone should be a clue that it's been abandoned a lot longer than the zombie outbreak!

Yeah. People here operate tours and such to take fans/tourists around to the different sites. The hospital where Beth stayed was actually Newnan Hosipital West, which is about half-way between where I live now and where I grew up (so about three minutes away). The high school where Shane sacrifices Otis to get mess for Carl was Newnan High, which is right next to where Ichinisan works (you can even see an NHS Cougars banner inside). They were filming Terminus stuff next to my brother's apartment where he had lived for 10 years. A cast member also lived there (I think she moved out earlier this year) and the rest would routinely visit. It was routine to see Melissa McBride walking her basst hound, Lincoln, but it was weird seeing her do it while they were filming outside her own home. Guess it's automatically "bring your dog to work day" when they film at home!

It's particularly interesting seeing how they get some of the places to look post-apocalyptic. In addition to finding genuinely abandoned and disused places like the store and hospital, they put up little roadside signs reminding city workers "Do not mow!" in the weeks leading up to filming, then they throw straw and leaves all over the roads and start rolling. It's much better than when Zombiland flipped a tank in the town square (turned it into a war zone). The director was angry because the main building they scouted for was covered in scaffolding from some renovation, but that just added to the "real life, interrupted" setting of a zombie story.

We have intentionally beat up Mad Max cars and zombie-themed stuff all over town as a direct result of the show. It's usually good fun for fans but not always... someone in town actually made a "zombie apocalypse" van that was genuinely armored and fitted with gunports, which was fine until some crazy from 1,000 miles away bought it on Craigslist to use in a real shooting/assault.
  • I understand they were trying to show a new group but, a whole episode about annoying non funny tara was what i was worried about.

Told my brother last week they better not have an all tara episode. So far this year 6 episodes, 6 locations.

Ill eventually read the comics but ill wait till the show is over. There is no point in ruining for myself now and then i can judge both on their own merit and not simultaneously nit pick and complain like you see in this thread.
  • Tara isnt even in the comic lol
  • Im aware there are major differences. But the overarching story is similar. There is no point for me to start comics now. Just going to wait for the show to end.
  • Read the comics, then instead of watching TWD, you can watch Columbo on METV.

Columbo is on Sunday nights at 8pm EST and also is aired many times during the week Mon-Fri at 3am EST as the Mystery Movie.

  • I was responding to jerbilly above when talking about the comics. Id recommend personally just waiting. All it does it seems is just make people bitch about the show. So im going to finish the show and then i can buy all the comics and read the supposed "superior " version

also dont want to wait forever for compendiums. Not buying it issue to issue. Its probably going to be awhile before the 4th compendium and if i read the first 3 id be stuck waiting for that too.

I wish i could just tune out no spoilers to the rest of the show and watch the whole series with no commercials. Watched dexter that way and love going at your own pace through a long show. Commercials just ruin the flow of drama tv

I dont think the Columbo comics were as good. The shows over though, Peter Falk died years ago.
  • Ehhhh... not sure how I feel about this last episode. That 2 car scene was straight Syfy channel approved.
  • I really dug last nights episode...but maybe I was just itching for a new episode. This overall feeling of the group is great, finally in fight-back mode and it's looking to be a great 2nd half of the season. The 2 car scene was insane, I enjoyed it for sure - they said they helped film it with a drone  .

I don't get why Jesus has such crappy information on the Saviors considering he has their walkie talkie and has been spying on them for a while. He waited until NOW to tell Rick about the Kingdom? He waited until Rick and his groups attacks an outpost of the Saviors? I don't understand why they make him look like such an idiot when clearly he isn't.

I believe they are rushing towards the whole alliance situation. So much movement in one episode compared to the others made this episode feel out of the loop and forced.
  • Yeah, looks like Jesus was just playing his cards carefully. I agree that so much happened in the episode, it was odd compared to the first half of s7. I think that's why I liked it though, plus the Saviors looking for Daryl and then the ending with the internet named "Garbage Pail Kids". Very curious about this group and that spiked zombie, I assume they'll cover that in ep10 and will probably focus some time on the Saviors - dont think we know for sure yet who gave Daryl that key? I've heard some other rumors. I assume the Kingdom will come around as well and what about those Oceanside chicks that shoot-on-sight? I think we're in for some good episodes.
  • Alot happened?

They went to kingdom. They found some explosives. They got back home where saviors searched for daryl. They went looking for gabriel. I mean it didnt really feel like an exciting mid season kickoff. Just one of those move the story forward towards what we really want to see  type episodes.

it wasnt bad, but i wasnt captivated. I didnt come out of the episode thinking much happened at all

A lot happened in the sense of moving to different locations etc. which at this point they are now doing with ease. It used to seem more like a mission to get to the hilltop, but now they just show up like nothing.

It was not an exciting episode at all, but it just seemed out of place.

I agree.  A lot happened in the sense of building for the All Out War.  This is the part I thought they would drag out like the first half.  If you're invested in the comics, it might not be as big of a deal as to those who don't.  Finally starting to team up against the Saviors is huge, getting the Hilltop group, meeting Ezekial and Shiva, meeting back up with Morgan, the out-of-character car/zombie scene, the Hunt for Daryl, Rosita back to bitch mode lol, and then the ending with the new group.  First episode in a minute we've had so many of the main characters, including Carol even. To say that not much happened would be silly.

  • Not much happened lol

    the only difference in situation

    1) ezekiel said no

    2) daryl is at the kingdom

    3) they found some explosives

4)they met a random new group looking for gabriel

this episode was over an hour tv time. That is literally the only things that happened. Its how the show typically is. These episodes are necessary. Its just not memorable. Laat season there wasnt much happening at some episodes but negan had you at the edge of your seat. Especially in alexandria. It was compelling

"finally starting to team up vs the saviors"?!? All the people that were already teamed up to fight them at the mid season break are the ones still teamed up to fight them right now.

Im not saying the episode was bad but imo just kinda meh

  • Hey, at least Coral (Carl) didn't have a line. At least I don't recall him saying anything.
