Thanks! I missed last week and got a late start this week, but I'm hoping to play as many weeks as I can. I'm a casual participant, but I enjoy diving back into games I don't normally play and throwing up a competitive score when I can.
Thanks! I missed last week and got a late start this week, but I'm hoping to play as many weeks as I can. I'm a casual participant, but I enjoy diving back into games I don't normally play and throwing up a competitive score when I can.
All you can do man. I'm just enjoying myself playing games with my NA family.
This week of the contests is sure to be looked back upon as one of fierce competition and truly bizzare happenings.
As of this posting, the top 8 spots are neck and neck - with all of them eclipsing 170,000 points!
Along side of the epic high scores, we were also treated this week to half-naked nuns drinking and smoking, a SuperJimtendo fancy pervert marble drawing, "dick whisperers", conspiracy theories, a new "Ghosts n' Marbles" re-hash, water polo players touching their balls in public, and whatever the heck a "vulcan dick snap" is.
To add even more excitement to the "madness" The Nintendoage Contests Hall of Fame Committee is also announcing the finalists for Hall of Fame induction.
Grab yourself a cup of coffee and try to wrap your head around everthing that's happened here during Week 2.
NINTENDOAGE CONTEST HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES FINALISTS FOR INDUCTION CONSIDERATION
The Committee has selected these 6 finalists as some of the very best to participate over the last 9 seasons
After months of deliberation, The NA Contest Hall of Fame Committee has whittled down the first to possibly be inducted into the 2017 Class of the Contest Hall of Fame.
It was a difficult process and much thought was put into who to announce as finalists.
Being a finalist does not garuntee that a participant will be inducted this year.
It only means they have reached the final stages for consideration.
This is meant to be fun. If you dissagree about someone being included, (or not included) as a finalist, feel free to PM me privately and I will take all of your abuse.

About arnpoly
arnpoly is typically a silent killer in the contests. While many relish trash talk or boasting, arnpoly's M.O. is post a pretty darn good score and let the cards fall.
He recently had an addition to the family which has taken time away from posting more in the contests.
Even still, during the 2016 contests, arnpoly seemed to casually post scores each week and still ended up finishing in the top 5 for the season.
He also bowed out of playoff contention due to his new responsibilities at home.
arnpoly still posts scores today. Do not be fooled by this quiet, smiling assassin. He is still capable of posting monster scores - even without much free time these days.
- 2013 [1]: 3rd Place Season, Sports Champion, Tier 1 - 2nd Place
- 2015 [1]: 3rd Place Season
- 2015 [2]: 1st Place Overall, Arcade Champion, Beat 'em up Champion, Sports Champion, Platformer Champion
About bearcat-doug
bearcat-doug was one of the contests original trash talkers, often baiting opponents into weekly rivalries in order to motivate them (and himself) to post better scores.
One of his more famous rivalries was with Twin Galaxies NES Champion Tom Votava (rdrunner here on NA) in 2013. Doug battled hard to represent Nintendoage against one of the world's best.
In his (forum) old age, bearcat-doug helped to moderate the NA contests for a short while and still pops in to cheer on (and yes trash talk) new contestants.
He announced his self imposed retirement at the end of 2015, but bearcat-doug is still eligible to post valid scores.
With the destruction he has caused on the scoreboard in the past, participants better keep an eye on him to make sure he isn't goaded out of retirement.
Rumor has it he has called out his old rival for a showdown this year - the week of Double Dragon II.
bimmy_lee has been the chief moderator and overseer of the NA contests for the last 7 years. He also happens to be 2nd all-time in career contest points.
Over the past 7 years (9 seasons) bimmy_lee has keep contest participants and fans entertained with stories, poetry, rapping and even a 7 part epic when introducing new games and their scoring requirements each week.
There is a tremendous amount of thankless work that goes on behind the scenes each week to make sure each contest (and their requirements) are fair and competitive. Along with fellow contest moderator guillavoie, bimmy and the rest of the contest panel work to make games the best and most fun they can be for everyone.
Due to their prior knowledge of contest rules, out of fairness - the moderators bimmy and guillavoie have retired themselves from competition.
It'd be a safe bet to say bimmy_lee would be over 1,000 career points if not for that fact.
- 2012: 2nd Place Season, Platformer Champion, Sports Champion
- 2013 [1]: 1st Place Season, Platformer Champion, Beat 'em up Champion, Shooter Champion, Puzzle Champion
- 2013 [2]: 2nd Place Season, Sports Champion
- 2014 [1]: 1st Place Season
About guillavoie
guillavoie was a dominat contest force since he entered the fray in 2009. He holds Contests records in total number of career points and wins. He alos holds numerous high score records that have held for years.
After he retired following the 2014 season, gui became a contest moderator. Together with bimmy_lee and a few others in the shadows, they worked on making the contests better with each passing year.
Guillavoie was part of the epic 2013 contests that saw himself, bearcat-doug and rdrunner battle each other every week for world record shattering scores.
Gui has done battle against many of NA's best from the very begining. If he gives you a compliment, take it to heart.
The man has seen just about everything there is to see on the NES.
- 2014 [1]: 5th Place Season, Beat 'em up Champion, Shooter Champion, Sports Champion
- 2015 [1]: 2nd Place Overall, Beat 'em up Champion
About gutsman004
Guts has evolved as a competitor as years have gone by. Early in his career he was a fiery competitor that attempted to milk every point out of his NES controller and would often vent frustrations during the week.
Over time, gutsman004 seemed to achieve a more helpful and jovial tone as he still continues to post competitive scores, but instead of bouts of frustration, fans now get to see vandalismed name plates, week related pictures and/or gifs,
or if guts is really grumpy that week he'll bust out his pattened middle finger. This old man will help you one week, then wipe the floor with the competition the next - depending on the type of mood he happens to be in.
Guts also happens to be a two-time beat 'em up Champion. Do not sleep on him during those weeks if you are competing against him. He still has plenty of fire in his belly.
- 2012: 1st Place Season, Beat 'em up Champion, Shooter Champion
- 2013 [1]: 4th Overall Season
- 2013 [2]: 1st Overall Season, Beat 'em up Champion, Shooter Champion, Puzzle Champion, Tier 1 - 1st Place
About rdrunner
rdrunner played in only 3 seasons here on Nintendoage, but racked up 26 wins in that short period of time. He also did so against some of NA's most legendary players.
Tom also holds numerous NES records on the Twin Galaxy web site and is considered by many to be the very best NES player in the world.
rdrunner will pop into the contests from time to time to cheer on new contestants, but he has not competed here on NA in over 4 years.
For as good as he is, you'd never know it. Tom is very humble.
That being said, old time rival bearcat-doug has challanged him to post a score during the contests this year for Double Dragon II.
Will the sleeping giant wake up for one more go? I dunno, but it'd be pretty cool.
Again, not all players nominated will be inducted this year, but just to make the list of the final 6 is pretty impressive.
Hundreds upon hundreds of gamers over the years have competed here on NA. There were many players that just missed the cut.
Only 16 players were even eligible.
To find out who of these fine players will be inducted into the NA Contest Hall of Fame, look for a Hall of Fame Thread during the contests' first bye week on April 1st.
Good luck to all who were nominated and perhaps next year YOU could be on this list.
CONTESTANTS GO MAD FOR MARBLE MADNESS POSTING INSANELY HIGH SCORES!
The week is nearly complete and already 8 players have topped 170k
Scoring 170,000 points in the NES game Marble Madness is something most people in their lifetime will not do.
This week isn't over yet and already 8 people have posted scores besting it.
Check out the week's top scorers (so far)...
1st: Fluffy - 176,250pts
2nd: SONIKtheHEDGEHOG - 175,630pts.
3rd: tablew/chairs - 175,570pts.
4th: SwiftFrost - 174,220pts.
5th: Mog - 173,290pts.
6th: mbd39 - 171,530pts.
7th: Krunch - 170,730pts.
8th: Bea_Iank - 170,520pts.
Richardhead - not enough points to be in the top 8
This week has been brutal. mbd39 has finished Marble Madness over 500 times to achieve this score. SwiftFrost suffered a thumb injury trying to top the list, Bea_Iank managed to knock Richardhead out of the top 8 playing the game (somehow) on a keyboard and even the "AVS Scoreboard King" Mog couldn't post a score high enough to take home first place.
For now, Fluffy rules the roost. He is gunning for his first ever NA Contest gold medal.
But the competition is closing in.
Speaking of competition... NA's Marble Madness record holder the tall guy (178,650pts. - 2009) has yet to post, although he has stated the in laws are in town.
BROCK LANDERS DONS TIN-FOIL HAT TO EXPLAIN STRANGE PLAY FOR 2017 SEASON
The South Park Connection: X-Files Edition
If I knew how to post propper sized images in the update, I'd post a picture of the all seeing eye.
NA's own Brock Landers was up late this week and has statd he knows the REAL story behind the sporadic scoring (or lack thereof) by some of last year's best contestants.
During the 2016 contests, Colorado "friends" Richardhead, SuperJimtendo and JamesRobot often found themselves atop the leaderboards with friendly rival and Canadian ToxieRules.
This year, These 4 have been mostly pedestrian on the score front and detective Brock Landers has a theory why...
Brock suggests that Richardhead was indeed "removed" at the end of last season by JamesRobot and ToxieRules - whom then took over his account to post big scores.
This eventually led to Richardhead becoming the new NA Champion.
Brock surmises that is why both JamesRobot's and Toxie's scores fell off the radar.
What's more, a mysterious talking head from Colorado named Murray has entered the contests this year and a shady talking Moist Towellette appeared briefly last week with some kind of connection to SuperJimtendo.
I for one have absolutely no idea what any of this means (probably nothing) - but sincerily hope "The Prodigy" Brock Landers is feeling OK.
If you have any information regarding this case - then stop drinking alcohol.
Something strange is going on in Colorado once again during the NA Contests.
Lots of folks are already looking ahead to take the Life Force crown
Over the past couple of Contest seasons, there always seems to be a game that contestants and fans look ahead in anticipation to.
Last season it was Battletoads.
This season appears to be the shooter Life Force.
Last week rookie Gloves posted his excitement for a Life Force shooter showdown.
He was quickly rebuffed by 2016 Defending Shooter Champion skinnygrinny.
skinnygrinny was then rebuffed by everyone on the earth for the next week...
Even BertBerryCrunch appeared from nowhere to tell skinny he was only going to play that week just to beat him.
2014 Shooter Champion gutsman004 chimed in to say he'll be on top of his game that week too and Brock Landers promised to do his best to take the crown too.
I for one think Life Force is a great game - but impossibly hard.
Can't say I'm not excited to see what kind of scores are going to be put up that week though.
Good luck to all - and if you've never played in the contests, and are good at Life Force - come join in the madness!
Awesome write-up as always, Santa! I am very honored to be a part of the first nominations for the Weekly Contest Hall of Fame. It definitely made my night and brought a smile to my face. Get ready for Ice Hockey to start on Sunday, everyone! It looks like Team Bimmy and Team Abobo are set for their fourth sports match-up this week after previous battles in basketball, baseball, and golf. Hope you all will enjoy the zany hijinks and the infantile humor from the two teams. "Team Bimmy vs. Team Abobo: Stanely Cup Edition" starts on 2/26/17!

Same here! I literally woke up to the news and it is an amazing honor! I can't wait to see the Bimmy write up for Ice Hockey. I think my thumbs still hurt from that 71 goal effort from the 2015 season!
While I've always been more of a Blades of Steel guy (I had that one as a kid), Ice Hockey is a fun game. As far as Ice Hockey games go for the NES (Blades of Steel, Ice Hockey, Pro Sport Hockey, Wayne Gretzky Hockey), Ice Hockey has always been the most popular in the contests. We played Blades of Steel once and it wasn't very popular. We haven't played the other two yet, but Wayne Gretzky Hockey isn't very good (had that as a kid also, big hockey fan here) and Pro Sport Hockey is pretty rare,so we usually stick with Ice Hockey.
I'm going to have a few hours to put in tonight. Not sure if it will be enough time to get warmed up and post a good score, but at least I'll be able to participate.
I hope one year this game is played during a week when I can actually focus on it. Congrats to all the high scores.
I'm hoping that bad Street brawler will be my first gold, as I'm pretty good at that game even though it's pretty bad. Oh will we ever have a stealth atf contest?
If I'm lucky enough to get picked for the contest Hall of Fame, I honestly hope one day Santa gets in. He deserves it just for being a Hall of Fame guy all around.

Agree completely! And congrats to all the potential hall of famers
I'm honored to even be mentioned with those guys. I don't know how many of the 6 get in,but I figure I'm probably last on the list.
I'm honored to be on the same list as you too man! I've lost track of how many times I woke up to your awesome middle of the night scores. I don't know how many will get the nod, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us both!

BEA_IANK SPOILS GOLD FOR NEWCOMER LAST WEEK IN SUPER MARIO BROS. 3
Wardrobe malfunctions derail Gloves who settles for Silver in his first outing
The contests got off to a great start last week with a great turnout for Super Mario Bros. 3.
Newcomer Gloves surprised many veterans with a great score of 3,180,720 that saw him holding on to first place for much of the week.
...That was until Bea_Iank swooped in to score one for the old guard and dash the upstart's dreams of gold.
Bea is known to throw back a few cocktails from time to time whilst participating in the contests.
When she starts to acknowledge "Wardrobe malfunctions" that's the time the rest of the field should take notice.
Typically, that's her sweet spot to post a monster score.
And post a monster score she did. Bea put up 3,263,940 to deny the new kid a gold medal on his very first try.
When Bea is sober and drinking down some "black as death" coffee, she is often self depreciating and in "off" position.
When Bea gets her hands on Tequilia, look out.
Congrats to both Bea and Gloves for great scores and a great showing last week.

BARRELSANDRIVETS CAPTIVATES CONTESTANTS AND FANS WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY
With "Honeycrisp Apple" for scale
NA Contest contestant barrelsAndRivets typically posts his scores each week on a really cool looking retro-inspired red TV.
This week, he posted his score on some kind of new-fangled future machine.
It was in fact NO called a Game Master 5000 as ToxieRules suggested, but rather something called an NvidiaShield.
According to barrelsAndRivets, it's heavy enough to kill a person.
...This makes me nervous as Richardhead seemed VERY interested in obtaining one.
Anywho, lots of folks seemed to think it was cool.

SCORE SNIPING: PART OF THE GAME - OR DISHONORABLE TACTIC?
Contestants talk about their views on score sniping this week
A conversation started after contest veteran SwiftFrost posted a big score and commented that he didn't want to see any snipers attack his score.
Some contestants weighed in and were in full support of sniping (skinnygrinny and Mega Tank - Phil Hartman mic drop included).
Other contestants (such as Gloves) thought sniping was unsporting.
The consenses seemed to be that sniping is ok'ish, but it ultimately takes away from the competitive nature of trying to get the highest score.
That is, if someone posts a high score when they get it, it compels others to try and best it before time runs out.
bearcat-doug commented that he enjoys the back and forth of posting scores early and often - but added that his scores are immune to snipers anyway.
Whatever your thoughts on score sniping might be, it is still a part of the contests.
Keep it glued here to see if anyone can topple the 180k mark with a last minute snipe.

LIFE FORCE A LIGHTNING ROD FOR SMACK TALK

KOBRA KAI INC. COMPETITION RESET SWITCH FINDS NEW CUSTOMERS?
Need a way to reset your NES? Are you lazy as hell? Well... read on my friend
When NA Contest Participant skinnygrinny is not his evil "Kobra Kai" alter ego, skinny is referred to at times as "The Grinder."
He earned that moniker due to his playstyle of repeating a game over and over and over until he is happy with his score.
To help "The Grinder" with his play methods, skinny concocted a device to help him quickly reset without every leaving the comfort of his chair.
Coined "The Kobra Kai Inc. Competition Reset Switch" this device was frankensteined out of an RF adaptor and a NES controller.
Earlier this week competitors Megamanfan and Gloves were clamoring for such a device and Kobra Kai Inc. was there to offer a solution.
Although the device does seem to work, I would caution anyone from buying ANYTHING from Kobra Kai Inc.
You'd probably get a live jaguar mailed to your house if your score was too high.

That's it for the Update this week!
- Will Fluffy hold on for his first gold?
- Is mbd39 going to retain his sanity after so many trips into the "madness?"
- Who is going to win Life Force?
Keep tuning into the contests to find out!
Time for some Santy Sleep!
Hope you guys like it!
And congrats to all of the finalists for the hall of fame. They are truly deserving of the spot.
Just a bit sad that Miss Clawful isn't among them. She was the best among us, female competitors.
Let us see how this last day of competition pans out. Here's hoping for that elusive 180K score that knocks me down to 9th and Richard to 10th.
Now I need coffee, chocolate, painkillers, my trusty hot water bottle and my moon cup. Gods... my head... Gods, the cramps.

I'm just glad to have finally beaten this game.
I just massively suck at it. Almost at Megaman 2 levels.
But I will hook up the old Phantom System to honour the old times and play it in it, with the awful Genesis like pads and try to do my best.
By Odin's beard! I SUCK at Ice Hockey... but I do have the cart here, so I will have to throw in a participation score next week.
Mmmhmm ...
I hope one year this game is played during a week when I can actually focus on it. Congrats to all the high scores.
Holy hell Santa that was beautiful
If I'm lucky enough to get picked for the contest Hall of Fame, I honestly hope one day Santa gets in. He deserves it just for being a Hall of Fame guy all around.

Agree completely! And congrats to all the potential hall of famers
Nice write up, Santa.
Count me out this week, guys. I can't even get the participation score. I'm terrible at this game.
You can do it if I can. Clearing the third level, with no frills or fancy tricks, should be just enough

Yeah, just hang in there man. You can do it!
