  • Update: I couldn't find a local T20 screwdriver, so I brute force opened it with pliers (No, I didn't damage the kiosk. Yes, I did hurt myself). I got the bezel off, and screwed around trying out the different HDMI ports, and no luck. However, I figured, hey, if it's stuck on USB mode, let me stick in a USB. So, I did, and it read it. I was able to open it up. I think is its media player function. And after reverse image searching my boot menu, it looks like it's common among Chinese TVs. Nothing I found was helpful, though. So it seems like it just won't change out of the root menu, I can't select HDMI because the TV doesn't have an 'up' button for the menu. Therefore, I think I do need a remote. I found out my old phone has IR so I'll try to get an IR reciever soon and hope for the best! Not all hope is lost! If anyone has any last ideas now that I have it open, I'm willing to try whatever at this point.

Alright its good that you now have access to a smart device that can probably use the app. be sure to set it to the remote to "Element ELCHS262". The volume buttons can be used as left and right in the menu. I wish you the best of luck, get back to us with tales of success  . I just hope someone out there can find a proper remote.

The button to the right of menu is settings

    3: input

    2: mute

    Title: up arrow

  • I got tired of fumbling about for the power and input switches so I dug through my parts bins and found 2 switches that are almost the same size. They are 1mm or 2mm longer but its certainly close enough for government work. Here are a few photos of what I did and the result.

Stock button board after removing the metal cover. Those 2 short switches are just too short!

    Short switches removed!

    New switches soldered into place.

Just a tiny bit too long but it is so much better! These are 10mm tac switches. The originals look like 8mm.

Awesome, I think I'm going to do that because the input buttons ARE annoying. 10mm like the ones below?

Could always cut or sand them down a little. My plate must be bent a lil cuz I do not have issues reaching/activating the shorter switches on my monitor remote control box.

No its not bent, because I can push it in as is. However, it would be nice to have it uniform though.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about not being able to activate the shorter switches with their finger, while I can do it really easily.

I can too; however for their justification, it's kind of annoying.

Those are 6x6x13. I looked again and the ones I used are 6x6x12.5.

I bet the matching ones are 6x6x11 or 6x6x10.

Here is a an ebay link to 10mm

If youre reading this after the auction has ended the exact part I used is Digi-key part TL1105HF100Q-ND.

    A cheaper alternative is a 13mm switch at 1/3 the price, Digi-key part 450-1642-ND.

Without that metal being bent its a bit difficult to find the two short switches because they lay totally flat. Thats great at gamestop, keeps kids from shutting off the TV. Not so great for my fat, aging fingers. Replacing the switches took almost no time and I had the parts already thanks to my arduino addiction.

  • .... now that I think of it. At some point I'm going to want to stick an arduino in this kiosk. I just don't know for what yet. >.>

Nice find! Looks like the subwoofer and internal wires are intact.

Dont suppose you would be interested in selling that demo disc?

I would like to start putting together info about them on the over on the other thread.

  • There is one outside my Gamestop now. Waste management refuses to pick it up so it's sitting there...lol. It's all rusted out now from rain.
  • Got it working!!! Thank you so much   I did exactly what you wrote. I hit 3 to get to input, and then Title, and it went up to HDMI 2, then HDMI 1. I had a little trouble finding the "OK" button to select HDMI 1, but I figured it out by pressing every button. I don't recall whch button it was exactly, but it was on the second page on the lower left. So excited/relieved! Everything is back to normal. You guys rock!

Glad you got it working, congrats! If for some reason you remember what button OK was, then please let us know, I can imagine it would be useful info.
  • I was so excited to pick the one up from a nearby Gamestop i had my name on, but when the time came they had literally stripped it of anything electronic. TV, speakers, switches, everything.....
  • I got tired of a power cable sticking out of the back and added one of these. A switch and a fuse because I trust that stock power strip so much. Now I can use a standard power cable. Much nicer!

  • Finally done making nice with the wires. This took me weeks as I really dislike running wires neatly.

There are 2 gamepad power boxes. One of them is hidden behind the wiimote holding plate.

An extra powerstip is installed along the side to add extra consoles.

Why did I mount everything having to with with the LEDS and Wii U on the back wall?

Now I have 3 empty shelves for consoles and an HDMI or composite switch box depending on what I decide to install.

I am happy with the Kiosk so far. Below you can see my temporary cable connecting the demo gamepad. I dont think my chances are pretty good for locating an uncut cable so Im planning on making my own complete with spirals. What is there now is the proof of concept. I talk more about that effort on the Wii U Demo Console Thread.

That stuff looks really good! I wasn't aware that you aquired the demo console either!. Perhaps stripping the wire a bit on a cut cord and putting that get a new coax on that thing.

    Thanks! Its slowly coming together.

The length of gamepad cable I have left after it was cut is barely a foot. That and it doesnt look easy to splice into. I was looking for one at near full length to do just that but decided against it.

Ouch, a foot isn't much. Most of them cut at the end. I got the same deal with the wiimotes, a whopping six inches. Anway, keep 'er goin' cause you are doing a wonderful job.

  • Man, I wish I would have gotten the kiosk Wii U and Wii U gamepad, how many of those are actually out there?

I personally think there are more of the demo consoles out there than most people think... A lot of demo consoles were sold over the life of the kiosk and from what I have seen in social media groups, lots of people have them. As for the gamepad, I'm not really sure. Haven't see and heard enough to formulate an opinion.

Have I missed anyone or not corrected anything needing corrected. I have been super busy and have been trying to peek on this thread... just let me know. Also, if anyone sees wii u kiosks on ebay, craigslists, social media and they are not already in the list, please post the info for them. I have been planning on doing a data sweep on a couple facebook groups since I know there are units on there which are not on our list. Just need to get enough time to dedicate to it.

Lastly, thanks everyone for being so active in helping one another complete and mod their kiosks. I personally like to keep/restore arcades and kiosks to all original states, but you guys are doing some cool stuff to make these kiosks your own. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see more pics!!

I'm gonna have my eyes open for a legit demo unit console and tablet.  The only one on completed listings on Ebay went for $366!  Having one of these completely restored would be the crown jewel of my collection!

There are several demo gamepad only and a few demo consoles completed sales if you search wii u demo. Someone got lucky on both the gamepad and console, $64.88 and $58.88 respectively. The seller from Colorado didn't know what they had.
