What is the minimum amout of money you would take to sell out?

I had a friend ask me that last night. I told him I don't know. I am sure if I sat and thought about it I could come up with a number, but I have no intention on selling my collection any time soon.

Everybody has a price. What would be your s if you had to sell for an emergancy, and if you had to sell for greed?

  • My Right Nut!

No, seriously, this is a deep thought.
  • Depends if you are selling out of your own free will, or if an unfortunate event in your life is forcing you to. There would be a huge price difference for a lot of people.
  • good point. I guess you should have 2 numbers?? I will change the post.
  • I would be happy with 60k
  • 500,000$
  • I would never sell out my entire collection in a lump sum because you are going to get lowballed and will never find someone to pay your asking price unless you are giving one hell of a deal. If you ever need to sell out it makes sense to part out items one by one, otherwise you'd just be shorting yourself a lot of money. My feeling is that if you put a bunch of time and effort into the actual collection by piecing it together, then you might as well put a decent amount of effort in selling off too.
  • I`d sell my 300 genesis, 100 nes, 50 snes, games for 5 K. Lotsa rares there image
  • PS - My post is directed at WANTING to sell off. If an emergency came up and I was without a place to live or something along those lines then I'd probably take about 10k for everything I have video game related except my X360 stuff. 600ish NES CIBs, 100ish SNES CIBs, 50 N64 CIBs, 20 DS CIBs and a dabbling in some other systems like the Genesis. All of my SNES / N64 / DS ones are solid popular money titles or rares, no filler there.
  • I would take 50k right now for everything. image

    ~~NGD
  • I'd have to check my current running tab on how much I've spent and add 20%. If I had to.
  • Even though its probably not even worth that much at all, Id still want 30K. Probably worth under 10 (With all memorabilia, test station, signs, SE, etc.) , but its the idea that matters. I would never sell out really.
  • Yeah I dont think I would ever sell out so I really dont have a price in mind. Even if I sold my collection for financial reasons there are certain items I would NEVER sell ( CIB little Samson, Bronze Mario Award, Yoshi's Island Statue, etc.)
  • I'd sell 'er all for $65,000 right now, just for pure greed. I've got a lot of shit, which isn't all worth $65,000, but it would be relatively close.

IF I needed it for an emergency, I'd do it for $40,000, I guess. But there is no way that would ever happen. I already have a bunch of money "sitting" somewhere for when I buy a house. I would only ever NEED to sell my collection if I somehow needed well over $100,000. Based on my lifestyle, where I'm at right now, and the country that I live in (i.e. I don't ever need to pay for medical expenses), I don't think that will ever come up.
  • Enough money so that I can buy it back... and then more.

Really, I wouldn't want to sell my games. I guess you could call me a collector, but I don't buy the games with the intention of making a profit, I just buy the ones I like to play. That's all.
  • 350+ Nes carts at 7.50 each =)

  • $15K For all of my games and systems. But that would never happen!

Why do you say that? I'm sure you have a very nice game Collection.
  • i collected NES/SNES games about 5-6 years ago,had maybe 300 or so games and i sold out piece by piece, and made only about $1200.and i only got even that much because i had CIB chrono trigger, ogre battle,& earthbound, and almost every other snes rpg loose.....i now collect NES/SNES/N64 CIB's and i cant see myself ever selling again, after the regret i had selling my first collection off.
  • I don't really think I want to ever sell out. I could see doing it in a financial crisis; better eat than die a collector, I suppose.

Yeah, okay then being the generous person I am.. I will take only one cart.
  • I sold my entire collection off in the spring of 2008. I pieced it out and took home $60K but that included the Gold NWC. $60K was more than I expected to get so I was happyimage

Wow, what a deal! I'll send my cart only Silent Service right over!

  • the minimum amount it would take for me to sell my nes EXTRAS would be around $15K! as for my collection... i dont really know. what is a complete cib set (minus se & myriad) worth nowadays? plus you can then add in my sealed collection of 100+ on top of the cib set. i dont ever expect to need the money, so i dont ever expect to sell out; however, depending upon the health of my parents and the fact that they will both never be able to retire (1 self employed & the other's job gets health insurance), i would sell out in a heartbeat if they needed the cash. buttttttt, i plan on bringing home 6 figs starting in 2012, so as long as they can make it through the next few years, i will be able to support them both without selling anything at all... including all of the extras which are now in the nes graveyard!
  • I would sell Seth's extras alot cheaper. Pm me if interested.
