King of kong made me want to bitch slap billy mitchell though
I'm just gonna have to watch that this Thursday when I get paid. I've watched quite a few gaming videos on YouTube, and he pops up every once in a while in them. They make him look real shady, but I havn't figured out why yet. I have also watched an interview of him concerning Pacman the otherday with my dad, and he was just cockey about the whole thing. I never got that vibe from anyone on EOO.
I will say it clearly again that Dana earned her spot in the documentary on the merits of her skills and earning a spot in the finals.
Adam had over 400 hours of footage with which to construct the documentary.
The first cut was jokingly called the Dune cut, at some obscene length like 4+ hours.
The first REAL cut trimmed it to 2 hours, and was shared with a close circle for some audience feedback.
There were a few more test cuts in between, to get to the final version at close to the 90 minute sweet spot.
Over all of those cuts the story to be told evolved and was refined.
And I can assure you that the grotesque concept of pandering that CZroe keeps mentioning was never part of the concept or conversation.
When you make a documentary about people, you are going to show a slice of their life.
When one of those people has an "alternate lifestyle" () to them, and everyone around them, that is just ordinary life, and that was how it was shown -- matter of fact, and as ordinary life of one particular Tetris addict.
Keep in mind, as well, we didn't know who would qualify, and the participants were not informed of qualifier rules until the day of the tournament. We had hopes for a select few that had previously been followed by the crew, but they still had to earn their spot. There were no gimmes. (Also why we end up with the mini rivalry scene between Dana and Alex)
I don't know how to make it any more clear, and I think it would be disrespectful to both Dana and Adam (the director) to need to keep beating this particular dead horse.
Thank you. I've been speaking in past tense ever since you told me this ("felt," "thought," etc) but I still can't let people reframe my initial thoughts to portray me as a bigot without objecting/explaining.
I loved it. Way better than King of Kong because it didn't use selective editing to make one person into a 'villain'. If Rob Mihara is reading this thread, please consider a follow-up doc. ^^
As for Dana, I gave a copy to one of my friends whose wife is a major Tetris player, and when she saw her high score she exclaimed, "Really? That's it!?".

Well, if I see signs of the apocalypse in the coming days, it's because Arch actually suggested SOMEBODY ELSE stop beating a dead horse for once.

Thought it was an awesome doc. Have recommended it MANY times.
Of course, I recommend it with the caveat that there's a girl who lives an "alternative lifestyle," in it

Thor should pull a Billy Mitchell and drop off a "mysterious VHS tape" to claim the records.
Where the middle is missing and then it just "shows" the high score?

The New 8-Bit Heroes is also a personal favorite of mine. Nope, no bias here!
Is this movie still available somewhere? The documentary's website appears to be no longer active.
it today. Very much enjoyed it.
