is my top loader stuff unused?

I found a boxed top loader at the thrift store today (first one!)

all the parts were in the baggies and the things with wires are twist tied. have these things been used at all? I don't know how to tell if they are as originally packed or not. there's no tie on the console bag so I took it out and looked at it. it's freakin nice.

  • Best way to tell is if there are some scuffs, scratches or marks on the items. It is very possible the items were used but the previous owner kept the bags. How much did you pay for it?
  • If you actually paid 19.99 for that and found it at a thrift store, that was an amazing find!

Looks unused to me, but then again, my local Value Village uses new twist-ties and baggies on all of their controllers, and wrap the cables up nicely like that, so it could go either way.

You should go and ask to speak to the people in the back, and see if you can find the person who priced it. Ask them if it came to them like that. If it did, then it's probably legitimately unused. I doubt the person taking it to the thrift store would take the care to wrap it back up like that.

  • Judging by the twist-ties, that looks pretty darn legitimately unused. If the ties look like they've been undone and redone, that's a sign that they've been used (a sign which the items presented herein do not exhibit).
  • I can smell the mintieness from here! I'd say it's unused simply because it's in the bag. I try to keep my systems complete, however, I would never think to keep a bag.
  • If you're interested in a less wrinkly bag for the system, I've a bunch of them chilling in a box somewhere, all unused.
  • the twist ties definately look un-used, i think the best way to tell is check if theres any grime on the back of the controller or on the D-pad itself.
  • yep I paid $19.99 for it. some of the twist ties look pretty tight and neat but others not as much. I'll have to get everything out and inspect when I have more time tonight. everything seems super clean. the only marks of any kind I've noticed are on the deck itself-the're a streak on the silver label on the underside of the console, and the plastic around the cart connector looks like it may be scuffed ever so slightly from a cart being inserted once or twice.

so my next question is, if some or all the pieces are new, what do I do with it? the box is worn and I didn't get any books or papers with it.
  • i would say unused

edit: as for what to do with it, buy the instruction manual and inserts that go with it and sell it on ebay. you cant get a new box for it, because the box and system have the same serial numbers on them.

  • nice find ! value village rocks! i've found alot of stuff for my collections there, loose & CIB.
