fun weekend - NA meet up with K.thrower
Recently I was lurking around NA and realized that k.thrower lives right down the road from me. I contacted him and he was gracious enough to invite me out to his place to dig around. When I arrived at his place I was pretty dumbfounded; His collection is insane! I use to be a really serious collector when I was younger. I had about 400 nes titles in 2004. life, kids and the invention of the flash cart tricked me into selling my games around 2009. I've recently decided to put together a cart only nes set. that was my goal in the past. I would never even dream of collecting CIB so I was shocked to see k.thrower's collection. this dude is the king of sealed nes games IMO. Ken and his wife were amazing hosts and we hit it off instantly. I invited him to my place where we had a showing of "The wizard" and our wives threw down on some dr. mario & NES happily ever after. we decided to do some game hunting today so I snapped a few pictures.
We started out the day visiting "2nd & Charles". I grabbed an eddie money LP for $1.00
"Dino Games" in gainesville, florida

Ken and yours truly. I grabbed festers quest

Ken and his wife

My wife Lacey and daughter Atari

we had lunch at "the clock"

My Daughter picked up some slime at "2nd & charles"

Finally we stopped at "R U Game" in gainesville, florida
despite K.thrower having a huge collection he was able to find several games he needs to complete his genesis and master system sets.
Had an amazing weekend. Just wanted to share

Just wait until your daughter enters her "Teenage Riot" phase.
Looks like a good time, it's always cool to meet people from NA.
Your daughter is named Atari? How the hell did you convince your wife to go along with that?

Years later,
wife: hey hunnie did you know that there is a game system named Atari?
me: no I had no idea, must be a new system

Glad you guys hit it off.
we plan to go raid Tallahassee's game stores soon, so I'll be sure to post again
WOO, Ken is wearing shoes? Fancy fancy, I didn't think he knew what shoes were, he always seems to be in flip flops!
he was in flops most of the weekend... it was raining so he had to keep his feet dry
I got to see a "pristine" chip & dale 2 from your collection
the old RR2 what a glorious POS that one was, at least it still works!
Meeting others with the same interests and making friends with them is the best part of NA. I always enjoy posts like this.
You say NESathon I come runnin.
It truly is awesome to meet other members, it was one of the best times I have had in a long time.
Just the circumstances in which you are meeting is awesome.
thanks for all the kind words everyone. I've been lurking around here for years, but I really look forward to becoming a part of the community. I haven't been that active because I get a little overwhelmed with the thought of collecting nes again. i'm spoiled from paying $1 a game back in 1998 I'm just going to have fun and wait for deals on cart only stuff.
Ahhh, the good ole days, when free space on a shelf to display new Playstation games was worth more to stores than the actual NES games that were currently occupying said space. That was the high point for me, man. You could wake up on any given day with a $20 bill in your pocket, say "Today, I feel like playing 10 good games I've never played before", and the biggest investment would be the gas that got you to (insert era appropriate gaming store here). That was the shit. I too miss those days.
I got back into the hobby full on again a few years back after about a decade and a half of on and off collecting, and the prices were a turn off to me as well. Not a day goes by where I don't pick up a cart and say "ya know, this used to be worth abc ...", or " I remember paying xyz for this". At first I just couldn't justify the new pricing, and it took me a while but I got used to it. At least I know these things will be cared for for the most part moving forward. And I'm still mostly a bargain shopper, the deals are definitely still out there if I put enough work in!
