i dont think guns are made with the intent to shoot at paper. you can have a car stay parked in your driveway but thats not what its made for.
why do you need to practice shooting. what are you practicing for?
im not trying to say everyone elses hobbie is wrong. i just dont understand this one...also ive never heard of kids killing each other with video games. although it could have happend, i suppose.
Your exact words were "wtf is this thing for. only one reason for it, killing something." The fact that I've used a gun for a purpose other than killing something proves that your statement is false.
I practice because I have a CCL and a CCW. Anyone who takes that responsibility should practice often, otherwise you could be a danger to yourself or others.
You are correct that you never said anyone's hobbies were wrong, so fair enough on that point. However, the way the comment was written, most people would assume it was implied.
i stand corrected. shooting at paper is another reason to have a gun. are you saying, killing something with a gun is probably not the reason guns are made? they are made to shoot at paper?
you are the one who chose to get the carrying permit. nobody made you. so if you practice shooting because you got the permit, well then my question is why did you feel the need to get the permit?

There are entire categories of gun that are ONLY useful for target shooting.

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that mr. Wunderful, I just think the "high capacity magazine" ban in certain states is ridiculous. It's a pain if you spend money for range time and spend 12 percent of that time reloading mags (unless) you have a lot of magazines. I guess it wouldn't matter much if you get yourself a .50 Beowulf or .458 upper and mags
Yes, I have a small arsenal. The only gun law in Montana is that you have to own a lot of them
They're... alright. I barely ever shoot anymore. THE GUBMENT TAKIN' ALL UR GUNS is probably the 4,346th biggest concern in my life
I have more pressing matters to attend to as well, like finding room to store more video games and comic books. I've even contemplated selling a few to get rid of another gun safe, ahh the old government is coming for your guns argument, that'll really work out in their favor.

I agree with most firearms law being stupid, but this is California and the pros outweigh the cons for me. It is alot of reloading, but I try to focus and make my shots count so I don't put a ton of lead downrange.

I would agree. My dad was a Marine marksman and he always taught the value of taking your time with shooting. Haven't shot in years, but I still remember that.
I still want a pair of 10 round revolvers, a biathlon rifle, and a Gryojet. No interest at all in self defense, carrying, hunting, or Obama taking my guns

When I was a kid, my family went to church and had lunch like we did every Sunday. While we were gone, some assholes broke into our house, ransacked the place, stole everything, and sprayed graffiti on the walls. They took my little league baseball bat and beat our dog with it until she was paralyzed. We had to take her to the vet to be put down. I'll never forget the dog making the worst howling and my mom couldn't stop screaming. My foster sisters huddled on the ground with her crying. The police took a report and nothing came of it. I practice shooting for fun but if someone breaks into my house, I'll kill them. My family has always had guns and yes they are designed to kill people. All I know is the police tend to show up after the party. If you had said that the original purpose for creating guns was to kill things, I wouldn't have corrected you. But you said something completely different and unrelated that was false, so I corrected it. Sorry.
As far as your second comment, I'm not sure what to say to that. Most people who have issues with CCL's are concerned that people carrying are not properly trained with their firearm, whether it's because they haven't fired the gun in a long time, or maybe because they were certified with a 22, but carry a 45. Those would all be valid concerns. However, I've never been met someone who would question why someone would train and practice with their weapon. Nearly all law enforcement and military officers train and practice with their firearms. That was without a doubt the most peculiar comment I've ever read on this or any other forum. I carry a CCW to protect myself, and more importantly my family. I hope that I never have to use it in a life or death situation, but if that ever happens, I will be prepared for it.
We are clearly very far apart on this topic and since it is not my intention or desire to change your opinion, I only see the continuation of this leading to a bad place. I usually make it a point to not get into gun debates online as it serves no useful purpose. If you reply, I will certainly read it, but I'm not going to continue here unless it's to get back into the original thread discussion.

While I was never too concerned with Obama taking any of my guns, it's still nice to see that since Trump has taken office, the price of guns has started falling due to the lower demand. Plus ammo is much easier to find (outside of 22 which is only slightly difficult to find).
Bullets are too expensive these days, even .22, to just be dumping rounds down range. I have a couple different AR uppers and even my 7.62 costs about $1.68 a shot, so a 19 round mag costs roughly $32. Believe me, at that price I try to make every shot count. My neighbor has a Barret .50 and belongs to a private club a few miles from the house and he took me out there, I told him I would pay for the ammo, we each fired 5 rounds (1 mag each). $96.00, holy shit, maybe I should of asked him how much the rounds cost first.
I have some interest in owning a rifle but only for the sake of hunting. My family has never had interest in guns or hunting. My interest is really based in being able to stock our freezer with deer meat. I would like to at some point learn how to shoot well enough to go deer hunting some time but I'm not sure I can justify the cost and time involved. I also have a lot of other things I like to do like working on cars which is my #1 hobby but scarcely have time for that with work and raising a family. I also have no place to hunt so that's yet another hurdle. Since we're on the topic, what would be a good and cheap rifle to buy that would be adequate for deer hunting? A lower entry cost would help get me started.
I'm scared of guns. I get nervous just knowing there's a gun in the room, even if the owners/handlers of the gun(s) are experienced. And I was exposed at a young age, my grandpa was a rifle enthusiast and taught us how to shoot when I was like 6, wasn't scared then but am now. I'm glad Canada has strict gun control laws and I don't want that to change.

A savage axis in .308 bolt action would be a good start.
I got 4 small kids in my house. I don't need them to accidentally get their hands on a gun and become yet another on a long list of pointless tragedies... (which statistically is far more likely to happen, then me being some macho hero and saving my family from a robber)

i dont mind you correcting my statement of killing things is the only reason to own a gun, to, the original porpuse of creating a gun is to kill things. im just glad you understand what i was actually trying to say, so, thank you.
im concerened why you feel like you need a carrying permit in the first place.
and if its just a hobbie when did the hobbie of shooting at paper turn into i need to carry?
"to protect your family" wich i understand. but that is not a hobbie. thats, i own a gun and practice shooting and have a carry permit becuase im afraid of what might happen and having this gun makes me feel safer because i will be able to protect myself/family by being able to kill someone i feel threatend by with a machine that was made to do so.
if you think my comment here was strange you should meet me in real life, im talking weird. you prob have your hand on your holster. that was a joke, i think.
I'm a revolver guy, I have a S&W Governor that I keep around the house for self defense. I love the versatility of it. Being able to shoot .410 shotgun shells out of a pistol is awesome.
Guns are for hunters and people that can't fight with their fists.
I love the whole guns are for people who can't fight mantra... try that over in the west or south side of Chicago... I have the southeast side of Chicago on one border of me and I have to travel through Gary, IN quite frequently (another city that was the murder capital of the US for awhile per capita) 8 miles in th opposite direction. It's not British Columbia over here, these people will kill you just because your passing through, on accident, or if they think they can score 20 bucks for a bag of crack.
I've never had a gun and never will. I respect other people's personal decisions here. I do think there should be reasonable safety precautions in place to try to ensure dangerous weapons don't get into the wrong hands. Obviously they still will and we can't control it 100%.
I don't support capital punishment, whether it be through the court system / government, or by my own hand. I have no desire to kill someone ever, in any circumstance. My own personal solution to the balancing of this with my own safety, is that I have a nice security system in my home with monitoring. I would rather sometime try to break-in, the alarm go off, and them run away furiously, than have someone break-in, no alarm, and me try to go vigilante protecting myself and get into a potential gun-battle or other fight with someone.
It just seems like there is so much more risk of danger with my having and using a gun, when there are other mechanisms out there to help me feel safe and secure. Without a gun in my home, there is 0% chance that a child or anyone else could ever get it. 0% chance of any gun accident.
I suppose there is always the small chance that somehow my alarm could be off, and someone could break-in. I am willing to take that chance given the extremely low risk.

There is also the chance that the alarm sounds and the person doesn't flee immediately.
I'm a stout republican ( I was really indecisive on this election though and may have voted for Bernie Sanders if he had won the democratic nomination) and I'm for a certain number of gun laws. If you can afford a firearm you should be able to afford a gun safe as well. The risk is too high, especially considering children's curiosity and the fact that firearms are the #1 method of suicide, not to own at least a security locker to keep your firearms out of the wrong hands. I would also be willing to have to go through a background check involving private sales, as I don't feel it's an unnecessary burden. When you go to a gun store you have to do a background check why shouldn't you with a private sale? These are just a couple of the ideas I've seen thrown around that make sense to me, but I don't think I could see the rest of my NRA friends voting for.

i stand corrected. shooting at paper is another reason to have a gun. are you saying, killing something with a gun is probably not the reason guns are made? they are made to shoot at paper?
you are the one who chose to get the carrying permit. nobody made you. so if you practice shooting because you got the permit, well then my question is why did you feel the need to get the permit?
While I was never too concerned with Obama taking any of my guns, it's still nice to see that since Trump has taken office, the price of guns has started falling due to the lower demand. Plus ammo is much easier to find (outside of 22 which is only slightly difficult to find).
A savage axis in .308 bolt action would be a good start.

For real man, even when you take a shower? You got a gun next to your towel
i dont think guns are made with the intent to shoot at paper. you can have a car stay parked in your driveway but thats not what its made for.
why do you need to practice shooting. what are you practicing for?
im not trying to say everyone elses hobbie is wrong. i just dont understand this one...also ive never heard of kids killing each other with video games. although it could have happend, i suppose.

Me, I didn't enjoy being a victim and gun ownership didn't prevent the burglary but those people are the pieces of shit that make me glad to have guns around.
Wow that's terrible, but how would having a gun prevent anyone from breaking in your home if no one's there?

i dont mind you correcting my statement of killing things is the only reason to own a gun, to, the original porpuse of creating a gun is to kill things. im just glad you understand what i was actually trying to say, so, thank you.
im concerened why you feel like you need a carrying permit in the first place.
and if its just a hobbie when did the hobbie of shooting at paper turn into i need to carry?
"to protect your family" wich i understand. but that is not a hobbie. thats, i own a gun and practice shooting and have a carry permit becuase im afraid of what might happen and having this gun makes me feel safer because i will be able to protect myself/family by being able to kill someone i feel threatend by with a machine that was made to do so.
if you think my comment here was strange you should meet me in real life, im talking weird. you prob have your hand on your holster. that was a joke, i think.
