I admit it. I paid $195 for Kid Klown in May last year. It was all me. The going rate was a little over $100 and I spiked it like a douche. Sorry everyone.
You can grab a basketball hit the court with 2 buddies and ask "is that playing basketball or is that playing basketball?"
I might respond by pointing to the NBA finals on tv and say "No, that is basketball."
So sure you can create a minor market shortage and affect supply and demand by decreasing the available supply. What he didn't do is increase demand. So once he stopped buying the game and the supply returned to normal so did the price.

It is ok we all still love you.
So how about a new topic, how many gameboy game's can you fit into a Volkswagen beetle.
Occam's Razor... Kid Klown has been considered rare and desirable for years now. I found one in 2012, cart only and damaged but for a good price and I considered it a very lucky find. It was easy to sell when I trimmed the fat on my collection years later as well. Kid Klown has a title character, it's a late release, it has collectability, it has rarity. Believe it or not there's people who genuinely want this stuff and will pay to get it. It's easy to point the finger at YT personalities and resellers but that's not always the best explanation.

To get back on track, there are temp spikes from youtube, like Sky Kid and Jackie Chan. Sky Kid came down so lol to all the losers trying to corner the market and the dummies that paid $45 for a copy. Jackie tho is legit uncommon and a great game. So I would chalk that up to exposure and also one guy was trying to corner it. There are plenty of other games that might be in the same category but arent desirable like Color a Dinosaur, or Godzilla 2. Heck even some games that are 20 bucks STILL, its so rare and people dont even know or care about it! When they do tho... thats when things change and people are over and out bidding each other for it.
As a bottom line, its a lot quicker easier for a price to jump high and stay high when someone spends almost 2x more than what its worth than what it takes for that same item to come back down. So be like me, dont get told what to buy, if you're actually passionate about the games, owning them and playing them, do your OWN research. Check how many copies get sold, whats rare that no one talks about etc and it wont happen to you. Im currently doing it with gameboy and dodged a few bullets because theres a lot less information out there on them.

We talkin original or advance?
Advance leaves too many variables, you have Warioware with its big buldge, Drilldozer with its odd growth, etc. At least with gameboy you have a consistent sample
Anyone who has collected or attempted to collect a full set knows that Kid Klown has always been a rare title let alone CIB with a Poster. It finally caught up to its rarity..... you have more collectors deciding they want a full set or to collect rare NES titles. To me this is market driven, not YouTube or Resellers.
funny enough the OP posted about rare titles last year..... look how many of us said Kid Klown
I can 100% agree with the OP about Kid Klown going way up in value. I just sold a Kid Klown box only for $500. When it was listed, i had so much interest in it. I truly think this title will continue to rise and who knows, in a year from now, $500 for my box might have been a bargain. I also saw this complete copy go for $930 a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah I can't believe I kept passing on CIBs last year at $300 trying to hold out for one with poster at $350-$400. That's the way it goes sometimes. We haven't had a true run on an NES title in awhile though, this came out of nowhere.
I think the rarity has been the same all along though. Anyone who collected NES knows Kid Klown is rare. That hasn't changed in the last month. There had to be some external force, either a hype video, a hoarder manipulating the market or something to drive the spike. There's no way the entire NES community just noticed this title was rare overnight. Something happened to spike the demand and cause a run on it.

You may be right. I see about 13 loose copies (3 CIB) sold since April 1st. I tracked this game awhile back and it never saw that type of volume.
I search YouTube videos in the last month and nothing out of the ordinary .....
Sometimes I wonder why people still think that game collectors are whiny babies and then I read things like,
"oh man a game that's always been rare is now rare price when there are dozens of carts over 200 dollars already? blame the you-tubers for bringing new people into this hobby so i can sell my doubles to the newcomers and make money! wahhhhhhhhh."
hey, supply and demand happens. rare stuff gets expensive. if you don't wanna pay it then don't. stop whining. you can't have your cake and eat it to. it just doesn't work that way. A game that is rare will eventually have a price to reflect it. and as a hobby grows demand for limited supply drives price. Sure there are spikes but hey, complaining and saying its everyone elses fault and no one should buy that game is just a little crazy. It makes me wonder how many games you've paid over 50 bucks for. should we complain about that too since technically every game over 50 is more than its release cost and no one should pay that? no, we shouldn't because they aren't in print anymore, and rarity creates value.
I'm just saying, get a hold of yourselves. It's economics. Sure there's definite manipulation of the market. you can't stop that. you aren't superheroes, and we have this thing called a free market. people have and always will manipulate the market for their gain. its happened with every. single. thing. games are no different.
99% of the OP's posts are "What's a rare game for system X? What can I buy?" His sig says it all. Never wants to do the legwork.
lmao Ive noticed that too
But Like ive always said throughout the years, If youre salty about a game you havent picked up yet after a price spike quit being Stingy and just buy the damn games on your list and stop crying about that "One" game that starts to shine and get a highlight video on youtube and thrown into the RETRO hype and Collectors spotlight.

I agree, if you can't afford it don't buy it, even of some asswipe is cornering the market it's his money, let him sit on a 100 copies of whatever game. This is a hobby, there is no reason to get all worked up over a copy of a game. If you want it that bad save up and bid on one until you get it at the price you can afford, believe me it will make the victory of achieving that goal all the more exciting.

I wouldn't doubt if someone is playing the market. There is a videogame/magic card dealer who had a hand in several other titles jumping in price like this.
Did this guy happen to hoard zanac and godzilla for NES? If so, I know who you are referring to.
I think I know too (altho his hoarding was prob out of OCD and being a jerkoff if its the same person), care to share his name?
these threads are idiotic. If you havent paid attention in 3-4 years and even then it was expensive, then you shouldnt be allowed to post a shocked at a price thread.
It only took a few year's but now more people are finally accepting the reality that the market can be manipulated.
If people can manipulate the stock and gold markets (which have laws and regulations in place to prevent it) was the ability to manipulate the market ever in question?

Sooooo, we still talking about kid Klown or?
Nah I think OP turned it into a WTB thread.

kid klown been rising steady for over a year. it has jumped from $150 to near $300 in that time tho.
swamp thing is the one that is currently jumping.
Definitely going with the Disney licensed Famicom version if I ever want to play/own this one now.
