i dont mind you correcting my statement of killing things is the only reason to own a gun, to, the original porpuse of creating a gun is to kill things. im just glad you understand what i was actually trying to say, so, thank you.

im concerened why you feel like you need a carrying permit in the first place.

and if its just a hobbie when did the hobbie of shooting at paper turn into i need to carry?

"to protect your family" wich i understand. but that is not a hobbie. thats, i own a gun and practice shooting and have a carry permit becuase im afraid of what might happen and having this gun makes me feel safer because i will be able to protect myself/family by being able to kill someone i feel threatend by with a machine that was made to do so.

if you think my comment here was strange you should meet me in real life, im talking weird. you prob have your hand on your holster. that was a joke, i think.

As another counter-point, having a carry permit can simply serve as a big reduction in your risk of accidentally doing something illegal while transporting your firearm to and from the range.

  • Yeah there are definitely some weird laws out there. You have to have the gin in the trunk, with a lock, with the ammo in the glove compartment locked. I have a carry permit and have been pulled over while carrying a gun and never had an issue. Just keep your hands on the wheel and inform the officer that you are carrying a firearm, they will appreciate your honesty and it should keep the situation from escalating.

    ...

I suppose there is always the small chance that somehow my alarm could be off, and someone could break-in. I am willing to take that chance given the extremely low risk.

There is also the chance that the alarm sounds and the person doesn't flee immediately.

  • I'm not saying it's a perfect solution. I'm not saying it's the better solution for everyone. For me, it is my own solution for trying to take SOME safety precautions to protect myself, given that there is absolutely no way I will ever have a gun in my home. I'm not at all trying to criticize others who have guns - if people are responsible with them and follow the laws, more power to them. I was just sharing my own personal view on the subject for conversation. I know there are flaws in my system and I'm ok with it, and that's my point.
  • You now what I want for home protection, a trained Komodo dragon that knows Brazilian ninjitsu, I know it will cost alot to feed him bit it would be bad ass.

  • You are correct arch it is not hard-line but cellular.

And the response time around here is about 5-10 minutes (at least just based on my own experiences with calling out due to other issues in neighborhoods, not necessarily from the alarm system). Whether it is 30 seconds or 20 minutes, it still wouldn't change my opinion on having a gun, but as I said, I do realize that is a flaw of the security system method of protection.

From what I understand, most invasions occur when people are not in the home. Most burglars don't want to encounter someone in the home, because it is a lot more risky for them. Obviously it still happens. I've taken a reasonable number of precautions and I'm comfortable. I could have steel bars on my windows and 4 padlocks on each door, and that would I'm sure be even better, but it is a balancing act, like everything else in life.

why do you need to practice shooting. what are you practicing for?

im not trying to say everyone elses hobbie is wrong. i just dont understand this one...also ive never heard of kids killing each other with video games. although it could have happend, i suppose.

Your exact words were "wtf is this thing for. only one reason for it, killing something."  The fact that I've used a gun for a purpose other than killing something proves that your statement is false.

I practice because I have a CCL and a CCW.  Anyone who takes that responsibility should practice often, otherwise you could be a danger to yourself or others.

You are correct that you never said anyone's hobbies were wrong, so fair enough on that point.  However, the way the comment was written, most people would assume it was implied.

i stand corrected. shooting at paper is another reason to have a gun. are you saying, killing something with a gun is probably not the reason guns are made? they are made to shoot at paper?

you are the one who chose to get the carrying permit. nobody made you.  so if you practice shooting because you got the permit, well then my question is why did you feel the need to get the permit?

When I was a kid, my family went to church and had lunch like we did every Sunday. While we were gone, some assholes broke into our house, ransacked the place, stole everything, and sprayed graffiti on the walls. They took my little league baseball bat and beat our dog with it until she was paralyzed. We had to take her to the vet to be put down. I'll never forget the dog making the worst howling and my mom couldn't stop screaming. My foster sisters huddled on the ground with her crying. The police took a report and nothing came of it.  I practice shooting for fun but if someone breaks into my house, I'll kill them. My family has always had guns and yes they are designed to kill people. All I know is the police tend to show up after the party. Me, I didn't enjoy being a victim and gun ownership didn't prevent the burglary but those people are the pieces of shit that make me glad to have guns around.

Wow that's terrible, but how would having a gun prevent anyone from breaking in your home if no one's there?

My point is that having gun wouldn't change anything that happened that day but I like having a counter measure to deal with those type of people in the event I was there. My family takes trips to the desert and out camping about two times a month with me being the only person left at the house. It isn't the main reason I got the gun but it was a consideration for sure. I imagine a person planning to break in would notice the RV and trailo being gone.

Why did you get something so ugly?

I'm a little more familiar with the Judge myself, but basically the same thing.  If you haven't heard of it already, Google 410 zombie rounds.

I don't want the Taco Bell Hell (that Demolition Man predicted) as our future.

I don't think your namco guncon is going to scare too many people away

  • Just started the 10 day for a remington 870 super mag (synthetic stock) for clays/trap.

Anyone have any advice? Mods? I have a small amount of shotgun experience.
