Official FuncoLand Appreciation Thread

Here's some pictures of my FuncoLand stuff. Some of you may enjoy seeing these as not too much of it exists anymore. Be sure to post anything you have as well!

NES and SNES cart sleeves and disc sleeves. I still need more disc sleeve variants and a Genesis cart sleeve. Various game tip sheets and receipts.

Disc wallets, box for used systems, price sheet, a universal game/VHS case, and Game Informer sign.

Employee Polo shirt and sweatshirt.

Manager's leather jacket.

Edit: My apologies, the pictures aren't showing up too well, but you get the idea.

  • Great stuff! I'm definitely jealous. I used to love going to Funcoland back in the day. I don't have much but would like to get more someday. Here are my 2 sleeves and poster:

  • i remember in the newspaper final fantasy 2 was the most expensive game at one point for snes, then chrono trigger.

Forgot what was top dog for NES
  • Hell. To. The. Yea.
  • I worked at one of those when I lived in Seattle, toward the end of Funcoland's life. I have some very odd stories.
  • This thread is a thing of beauty. Thanks for sharing all of these images, guys. Funcoland during the end of the 16-bit era / beginning of the 32-bit era had to be the last period where things didn't quite feel as corporate and controlled at chain game stores. So many good memories.
  • The intersection of getting back into the NES crosspolinated at the same time Jackass and CKY took off and that made for a lot of pranks and harassment toward this store by me and my friends. I know the NES scene was a big contributor to that at the time. Good times. I have a lot of stories
  • I used to manage a Funcoland back in NY from 2000-2002.

If I could of kept what we had back then, my collection would have been amazing.

One of the regrets I have was when we got in the big box Conker's Press kit.

One of the employees called dibs on it and kept most of it.. but we all ate those nasty jelly beans that came in the medicine bottle and had a jelly bean fight lol.

Ohh the stories from back then.. the good ole' days.
  • Have all former Funcoland locations transitioned to GameStop?
  • I need a Funcoland price guide!!

Yes, or the location was simply closed. I've heard rumors of old Funcoland store marquee signs still existing, but I can't confirm that.
  • Anyone ever see this logo before?

please share some. Funcoland was my favorite place as a kid and hated gamestop for years becasue they bought the store and turned it into something much worse.

even as a kid back then I knew gamestop was horrible.

anywho, i'd love to hear some odd stories from gamestop.

  • I miss having both EB and Funcoland for my gaming purchases. Both were excellent (and very close to where I lived in CT). I almost always hit both up whenever I wanted to buy used games.

What would you like to know? ha ha.
  • You said you had some odd stories. Start there
  • Anyone happen to have a picure of the inside of a Funcoland store? Specifically the NES section would be neat to see. I remember they had all their empty NES boxes out on the shelf set up like a VHS rental place.

This is the only one I can find using Google - the NES stuff is just creeping in on the left.

  • Street view this gamestop. It technically is the last funcoland.

GameStop, 3600 Gus Thomasson Rd STE 126, Mesquite, TX 75150

I found these on a Shaq-Fu fansite, they are from after the Gamestop buyout but the store still had its old elements

  • Here are a couple pictures of a Game Informer T-shirt that was given to people who submitted cheats for the Secret Access section of the magazines. I received this in I believe 1996 from the Game Informer office then in Eden Prairie, MN.

  • I can't believe none of the die hards have posted a pic of the legendary Funcoland neon! One of the most iconic video game signs of all... right up there with the KB/World of Nintendo!

I actually live like 15 minutes from this one. The magic ends when you walk thru the door as it is nothing but a gamestop. I'm not sure why they kept the sign on the building.
