  • What I tend to do is stockpile some doubles of games, systems, etc and when I have enough and feel like it I will sell or trade it. Selling takes a lot of time so I am never in a hurry to do it as soon as I get a double.
  • nah, i dont really get a ton of doubles since i dont have a ton of money to put into this hobby, and its pretty dry around here in terms of game hunting. and the ones i get i sell them immediately.

  • That video is hilarious.

edit: I keep replaying the museum quality part. Jeff is a genius.
  • Nah, I've got rid of every double. I use to have like a boxed copy then a cart only copy of a bunch of games, or buy 2 of a game and keep the other sealed, mainly for RPGs but those days are behind me. Theres no reason in keeping doubles or sealed games at least for me when you can sell those and put the money towards more great games to play! I know people like to have their trophies & holy grails or whatever for bragging rights but its all kinda silly to me. All this VGA nonsense, get over it people. Just play your games!

Just send them to me, it will be cathartic.  In return I will send you all of the Dan Marino cards

  • Nope. I sell the stuff I don't want. Sometimes I'm lazy and keep it around for a bit, but I know it's going out as soon as I feel like doing it
  • I started hoarding Metroid stuff... Originally it started with buying a second copy of Super Metroid because they were selling it with the strategy guide and I intended to sell the game... but then I held on to it. It led no place good. Lots of money spent and doubles of every Metroid game. I eventually did sell one of my three copies of NES Metroid to Brock. I convinced myself I didn't need it.
  • I can let doubles go but I have exceptions. For instance, if I have a cart and then, at some point, I manage to get a CIB or sealed one, I'll keep both. I'm kind of a "you just need one" type of guy but, let's be honest, you can't play the sealed one and the CIB feels as if it should remain in it's "home".

Also, I happen to have an N64. It's about the only original piece of hardware from my childhood and it's CIB, even with the plastic baggies all the parts came in. I keep it in the box. I just got another N64 I intended to sell, but now I'm sure I won't. That's now my play system.

But, I don't keep dupes for sake of dupes.

    You made the right decision.

Even my doubles of PS2 games where I had the PS3 remasters were dropped.  Better that space be taken up by something unique and different

  • Do you want to be a variant collector? Because this is how you turn into a variant collector.
  • I have 7 copies of my favorite anime on dvd. 7. Not including the variant versions.... Total I have10 copies of the same thing.

    Agreed.

  • This is actually why I started my sale thread on the forum, now that I got nicer CIB ones i can let go of the loose ones. I had more but i gave some away. It gets to the point where you need the space more than the extras.
  • I'm not attached to my doubles and know I will eventually sell them all off. Selling can be a hassle so I only list on eBay when I feel like it, which isn't too often.
  • Dubs gotta go man, they gotta go...Just gotta go, get rid of em, gone.
  • I get rid of my doubles unless it's a variant. The only time I get doubles is when I upgrade for condition so I never have many, but once I have them they're gone almost immediately. Sell them to a game shop near my house unless it's an expensive title. Then I'd put it up on eBay or try to trade it.
  • Nope, cuz im not ill.
  • Not at all, I hate extra stuff lying around.
  • I have a lot of extra systems that I can't seem to let go. Like Gamecubes and backwards compatible PS3s. I guess, I feel like they are back-ups in case one brakes or something. I sold 10 Wiis systems, but that's because I an play them on my Wii U and don't have a strong attachment to them.

    Maybe eventually, I'll let go.
  • I'm a doubles hoarder too, however that coincides with my alter-ego as a lazy seller.

that's different I think. I have an extra SNES I keep around just in case, and a few copies of Mario World. That's the one game I'd hate to not have a working copy of. They are label variants so I can justify it that way
  • Since I pretty much fund my collection by selling off doubles, no.

I generally first check to see if the newly acquired double is better condition than the one I already have, then promptly list it for sale either by itself or within a lot.
  • I have probably about a dozen extra games from when I bought my friend's collection. It's not that I really want to keep them, I just really don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell them. I'll probably trade them in to my local store at some point.

That said I do have doubles of a few Zelda games that I plan on keeping, but that's more because I collect Zelda as a primary focus and love the games a ton. Things like OOT, I can keep my original childhood copy with the saves intact, and still play new saves on another cart.
  • Yes I have been with Mega Man games from lots I buy. I can't help myself as the look awesome sitting in my game shelf.

    I have:

    Mega Man 1

    Mega Man 2 x3

    Mega Man 3 x3

    Mega Man 4 x2

    Mega Man 5 x3

    Mega Man 6 x2.
  • Keeping doubles isn't hording. I have a back up collection I keep stored away. I think if your buying random crap, regardless of condition, number of copies you posses, and space. That's hording.
  • You could just send them to me

  • You really should stockpile some Dan Marino cards just in case of emergency. Trade them to Brock.
