Polymega

I know nothing about this device - someone mentioned it on another forum.  Be interesting to see if it is done properly without annoying glitches/quirks.   Also will be interesting to see what prices we are looking at.

  • It definitely looks neat, but based on the specific systems they're showing as being compatible, I would have to guess that it's a 100% emulation console (all the systems mentioned have more or less flawless emulators available at this time) and the modules are simply there to read ROM data and interpret controller input for original games from those systems. Their "hybrid emulation" claim of it being 50% emulation & 50% hardware sounds like bunk--emulation will be running the games 100%, the only hardware involved will be the game media and maybe original controllers. To me, the SD slot speaks to being able to load up whatever ROMs you want versus what they're likely to claim it's for--system updates and game saves. I'm not saying that an emulation console is at all a bad thing (if done well, anyway), but call a spade a spade and enough of the PR-stroked smoke and mirrors already.
  • I do really like the design. I'm not paying money for an emulator though
  • I'd pay for an emulator console if I had a closet full of all sorts of games, wanted an easy way to play in HD, access them all in an organized manner, and didn't want to mess around with a stack of consoles, video/power cables, and various controllers.

The Polymega would also make it easy for more casual gamers to get back into their old collections. It simplifies and beautifies the experience. I can support the concept. I think it's a really good idea and possible worth the price tag (depending on what that is).

Personally, I've already got various Everdrives and digital backup access to all my disc games. Plus, I prefer original hardware with upgrade mods. I just wish flash carts had nicer menus with artwork. Emulator consoles are very nice to look at. Best example is RetroPie.

Without holding one, what do you guys think of using a PS4 style controller for vintage gaming?
