Great American Eclipse

In case anyone is near the path or wants to make a road trip.

Just don't stare at the sun itself.

  • I hate St. Joe, but I will be there. LOL!
  • Nice! All I will have to do is just step outside.

You don't have to be IN St. Joseph, they'll just see it a few seconds longer. The total part will also pass over the north half of KCMO.

  • Kind of disappointed I wont get to see the full eclipse, but .7 ain't half bad.
  • Fear not! In 2024, another will pass pretty close to New England.

Eastern Canada gets some love, too.

Sweet!  I can stay home then.  I live just by the Airport in NW KCMO (Weatherby Lake).

I hear you there!  TN for the win... Although we have a family trip planned for that day, taking the family to a nice state or national park for the actual eclipse..

and Yes for those curious, I am keepin my kid out of school for this.  Why?  Because I can :0
  • I found a lot of towns in Oregon in the total path have that weekend already booked up.

If you're planning on traveling into the path, make plans now.
  • Yeah, our population is expected to quadruple here in Hopkinsville, KY that weekend. The city has gone all in on festivities and events -- we're even having a big comic convention (EclipseCon) that weekend. The eclipse apex here will literally be a few hundred yards from my back door, so I'm hoping to have a pretty good view barring any clouds or weather.
  • I hear southern il will have the longest time. Also hear hotels are booking up for that date there.
  • We had a partial eclipse in Europe not too long ago, but I've never seen a total eclipse. Next one we'll have is in 2027 or something like that
  • One of my coworkers was trying to convince the principal (I'm a teacher) that we should have that day off so the students could see the eclipse with their families.

That is fantastic. I really wanted to travel to the path of totality this year and bring my telescope, but due to life situations, I'm out of vacation and sick time until January, which means future required days off are now unpaid. Sucks it's 7 years away, but glad I will have another opportunity.
  • I wish... unfortunately won't have the best view here in Wisconsin.
  • Eclipse Simulator! See how dark it'll be in your neck of the woods.

  • Anyone travelling to see the eclipse should be prepared for heavy traffic and cellular/internet congestion. Verizon is concerned enough about the sudden mass of people all streaming/uploading pics & videos at once that they are erecting temporary pop-up cell towers.
