Collection acceleration or decceleration?

Over the journey as a collector, our collecting habits would likely vary from year to year. Issues such as expendable income, general health, family/social commitments are all factors in determining how much the rate of your collection would grow.

So what are your trends in the recent years? Are you accumulating, de-cluttering, or plateauing? Have you ever noticed how much you buy in a given month/year? Where do you project yourself in 5-10 years time?

  • I have always accelerated until this years. I'm Getting ready to retire from collecting once I obtain these last few items I would like to pick up.

I know what I spend in a given month and it's about time to redirect those funds. 5-10 years from now I still will be playing these games and checking in on what's the latest and greatest with NA
  • I'm definitely decelerating/decluttering at the moment. Mainly because I've been shifting my focus (slowly, but surely)
  • Deceleration mode
  • This topic sucks. Let's talk about prices or something.
  • Slow and steady
  • I've been accelerating, probably due to my having been buying all digital for the last 5 or so years. My "collection" hardly existed at all for a while.

no they're about to crash. Nothing to talk about there
  • De-cluttering. I just want to play games at this point.
  • I've been decelerating my main collection. (NES) As a only buy IRL (I enjoy the hunt) but after 400 carts It's getting more and more rare to find things I need. Maybe I will have to start buying online.

  • I said at one point i was slowing down but lately it hasnt felt like it. I try and stay current for the most part with games comin out. And i've been trying to get the last few games i had been wanting so i guess im still pretty active.
  • I think I have split personality. As a gamer, I'm definitely slowing down. Been stuck on Defense Grid on Xbox 360 for the past 6 months, playing pretty much nothing else. Whereas the collector in me, it's still on a spending spree weekly.

Projecting myself in 5 years time, probably I'd be 95% collector and 5% gamer. Can't see myself playing too much games the more older I get!
  • Both.

Decelerating the N64 collection to focus on getting a select group of titles.

Accelerating the GC and PS1 collections because trading N64 games is easier than selling them!
  • The past couple years I accelerated to get many games before prices got too high for me. Did I do it? Did I wrap this thread back around to be another price thread?
  • Slow and steady. I buy a couple games per month for the ol collection. It's been 5 years now so I'm a more discriminate buyer.
  • Downsizing, prepping for a big sale.
  • My gaming interest have dramatically changed the last couple years. I think I could actually now sale stuff I never thought was possible.
  • I got 2 nes boxes today (Adventure Island II and Back to the Future). Thats the first NES collection purchase in quite awhile.

    Slow and Steady
  • Why do you have to use big school words, why cant you use regular people words....?

Deceleration for me though, aka, gettin rid of some shit.
  • Slamming on the breaks. As a new collector I went pretty crazy at first, but after acquiring the essentials I'm slowing down. I'm searching for seven NES games right now and nothing else. The rest of the common games will come in time and the more expensive games are a bit out of reach. In 5-10 years time I hope to have my collection close to complete, but I''d be more than okay not having some of them. Hunting down games if fun.
  • I feel like every time a topic like this is posted, everyone sounds like pack-a-day smokers.

"Oh yeah, I'm totally trying to quit."
  • I cant say im accelerating, but i havent really slowed down any.
  • I would say slightly decelerating at this point, though not totally by choice. It is just harder and harder to find items that I still need for my collection anymore. I hope that in the next year or two, things get mostly wrapped up.
  • I'm at a dead halt, I don't have time to collect at the moment nor the money. It's likely that I won't pick up again for a few years but I certainly won't be selling anything.
  • If it were up to me I would be out there every other day or so looking for deals and trades. I have a wife and kids to support on my paycheck alone so whenever I earn a few extra bucks I'll go find a game or two. However... my wife feels like it's gotten out of hand, and will shift into this mode for about three months at a time. So I'm not so much stopping right now, hiding would be a better term.

I was trying to make poetry out of the title, you like?

Otherwise it could be "Your game stack, gaining more or getting rid of some shit?"

But funny looking back at the title, I mis-spelt deceleration. 'Decceleration' = hybrid for deceleration and declaration = have I created a new word? lol

  • About the same I guess. Selling some parts of the collection to pay for others.

    Well shit.....

I guess I'm accelerating. But it's a slow acceleration. And I mean sloooooooooow.

  • Slow. It's not a race.

    Oh shit....
  • I just slammed the brakes on my collection one last big one then I'm done
