Anyone try Opera (Browser)

Hey NA,

I have had it with Chrome. It literally eats 6gb of my ram with just 4-5 tabs open. And not all at once, it is almost like it has a leak.

It makes using it a chore because i have to always make sure i am closing tabs and rebooting it, or using memory sweeper.

I was looking into Opera and it looks and sounds promising. Adblock built in is a nice feature. As well as a few other features.

Has anyone here used it? Do you like it? Should i be aware of anything? Like any security issues?

Thanks a bunch

  • Opera is great if you're worried about taking up resources. I don't have much experience with it though, I stick with Firefox personally
  • In a nutshell.

  • Firefox for me as well. Don't know much about Opera, but Chrome is a crazy resource hog.
  • I have had over 20 tabs open in Chrome for weeks. No problems with memory.

And here we have a picture of bootload with his computer
  • ^lol Looks about right.

Hmm. I will have to check Opera out and see. From what i hear it is a lot like Chrome, but without the tendency to hog memory.

I didn't like firefox much, but let me give it another go.
  • Opera was awesome when it had the presto engine.

I used it for a while after it moved to Chromium but dropped it altogether after I read the news that the Chinese were trying to buy it.

It is a bit better than Chrome when it comes to memory management.

These days I stick to Edge, Firefox and Vivaldi (which is another Chromium based browser from the ex-Opera creator and other Opera ex-employees).
  • I currently have this many tabs open:

(Yes, I have a lot of open porn tabs.)
  • There's also Midori Web Browser or Iron Web Browser.

How much Memory do you have?

I downloaded a suspension extension (Fun to say) that suspends tabs after a few minutes saving memory. Seems to be doing well so far, but Chrome always does well when first opened. It is after hours of use, the memory leaks.
