Send it in to John Riggs on his YouTube account. I'd like to see an episode of his Open Cart Surgery with your game. Although most likely he will go with a ROM transplant to a suitable donor board.
He usually chickens out on expensive games and doesn't do the board swap.

I actually was heavily considering this but not if he is gonna chicken out! He did a Bonk's Adventure once and it was successful; might email him and see what's up. At the very least I, or my cart rather, can be YouTube famous for a day....

guy makes me cringe. he knows how to do some things, but half the time he has no clue what hes talking about. Mabye he is just terrible at explaining, but he sounds like someone who has no clue what hes doing.

Kinda true, but I still find it entertaining when hes trying to figure stuff out. Its kinda like, what would I do in his situation type of deal. In a wierd way, Ive learned a few tips from watching his videos. He does know quite a bit about game boards and what roms are compatible with what boards, little details like that. Heck, most collectors dont even know how to sodder a capacitor to a board. He may not be the best knowledgeable guy outbthere but I respect how he tries his best while trying not to completely destroy your game. Id be hesitant as well if I didnt have owners permission to swap roms to donor boards.
I have emailed with John Riggs about this; he said he would do it. Does anybody know a guy, or a guy that knows a guy, who is a seasoned veteran at this sort of thing? If nobody throws out any suggestions I will most likely send it to John with a Home Alone 2 donor cart which was used in the OTHER thread to revive a different dead Panic.

I've done several. MrPete here does good work too. I have a negative impression of Riggs for some reason but I can't remember why.

My guess would be: The AVS USB connector repair attempt (super glue).
Sounds like you've already got someone to work on it for you but I've repaired hundreds of games, I've done a transplant on a Flintstones 2 even. There is nothing to fear whatsoever as long as the person doing the work has proper tools and knows how to solder/desolder properly. Best of luck, hope it ends up working in the end for you

Home Alone 2 is a great PCB for donor. What I used for my transplant operation. It is cheap, identical to the Panic Restaurant board, and is IMO a detestible game from a gameplay perspective.
Bah! Personally I'd still do the EPROM repair and just tape the original ROM inside the cart somewhere so it's the best of both worlds (still worth what a broken original cart is worth since it is BOTH the broken original and also a functional unoriginal replacement). Would go through the effort to do it without modifying the PCB though so it can be returned to the original broken condition.
As fate would have it, I found another copy of this game that actually works. The dud is now on eBay if anyone is interested. That is all. Thanks.
Just want to say I think it's great of you to say explicitly that it's not something a cleaning will fix. The honesty is refreshing when a lot of as-is auctions seem to try to say as little as possible to potentially sell for more.
glad you got a new one, and hopefully you get some good bids for this one.

With Untested or AS IS hardware, it is such a mixed bag, especially with consoles. Sometimes untested means the power brick was bunk or missing but the console was fine. Sometimes it's a blown regulator and a $2 five minute fix. Sometimes someone spilt coke or mystery goop everywhere inside and after serious deep cleaning it fires right up. Or not. Sometimes there's a failed AV mod where the user hacked up a bunch of wrong traces or spilled solder everywhere. Sometimes every chip is burnt. Sometimes you'll get a donor unit, cracked case, chips pulled, you name it.
I think Game Tech did a video once about some "for parts" consoles they found on eBay that were actually mods gone wrong. He opened a PC Engine once and there were ribbon cables everywhere from a failed region mod attempt.
If someone sells a console as "untested" and there is failed mod work inside, you can be 95% sure they are lying. They botched it up and figured they'd get higher bid as opposed to "untested" instead of "for parts or repair".
Also 8bitsupremacy, do you have a link to the eBay auction? I'd like to add it to my watch list as I am curious how much it sells for.

MrPete is going to take a crack at it. Putting it in the mail in the morning. Thanks everyone (especially MrPete).
Good call on that. He knows his stuff.
