Neo Geo X Gold (Maybe Pandora's Box)
Anyone have a Neo Geo X Gold? I love Neo Geo games and have always wanted one. The Neo Geo (orginal) is WAYYYY to expensive, but the remake is in the price range I would consider paying (even though I still think it's a bit high). This SNES Classic made me start thinking about other systems.
How hard is it to come across the games for the Gold X?

I've heard bad things about the Neo Geo golds emulation. Though the NES classic emulation wasn't great either, so I dunno
I have one. It's ok. Not great. It is hackable, although I've never taken the time to do it myself. The system came with 20 pre-installed games and one game on a card (only in the "Gold" edition, but I've never seen one that wasn't gold). They released another 15 games on 5 individual packs, or 1 mega pack. If you get the Gold and the Mega Pack, you will have a full set of games for it. Honestly, for the price, I would probably stick with emulation.
That clarifies a lot. I didn't get that the Mega Pack was just all the games. Why didn't they just put the games on there?
The thing about Neo Geo is no matter how much research I do, I never learn anything lol.
The emulation is passable, but I really enjoy my CMVS, I have about 20 games for it.
Playing a CMVS on a PVM with a decent set of speakers and a good quality neogeo cd controller is one of the best experiences in gaming.

What questions did you have? I spent 3 months researching the shit out of it before I bought my CMVS.

I don't know about specifics, but I'm not sure which console I want. I know what games I want, but I don't want to emulate them. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest/best option to play them.

Don't get into neo if you are trying to save money seriously though a decent CMVS will run you at least 400$. A CIB AES can be had from japan for 275-400 but AES games are WAY more money.
You can get a neo "everdrive" (neosd) but I believe its 500$ however you will have the entire library.
CMVS is pricier up front but MVS carts are way cheaper than AES (the lowest you can find them for retail is usually 60$ or so with a good amount of playayble titles 80-300
Neo Geo CD is potentially viable, if you don't mind some loading
What games?
I've actually kept a list
Aero Fighters series
Bomberman Panic Bomber and Neo Bomberman
Fatal Fury series
King of the Monsters series
Metal Slug series
Neo Drift Out
Puzzle Bobble series
Robo Army
Samurai Showdown series
SNK VS Capcom
Soccer Brawl
Super Dodge Ball
Thrash Rally
Top Hunter
Waku Waku 7
ZuPaPa!
I'm sure there are plenty of others but these are games that I have seen played or have played that I would like to own.
I know Neo games aren't cheap, but I also don't want to spend stupid amounts of money.
Get wind jammers, it's a good one
I honestly believe that the Neo library has the least "bad" games percentage wise.

Some of those like fatal fury, samurai showdown, neo drift etc are fairly easy to get at "retail" prices, but games like top hunter and robo army are going to be towards the top end unless you have a community hook up.

I still haven't jumped on Neo Geo collecting. But it's definitely on my list.

The Mega Pack also comes in a large case that can hold the portable portion of the NGX. It also comes with a cable that can be used to update the firmware. The smaller individual packs also come with the cable to update firmware, but they come in smaller cardboard boxes that are not as nice. If you want the full set of games, the Mega Pack is the way to go.

I'm sure someone on here could do it a lot cheaper...
If you are looking strictly to play then its worth it, but to me its not the same as original hardware (same as all other emulation)
Its ok. Mine had a ton of slow down.

I agree the over the top arcade sound is so amazing on an RGB CRT/PVM with seperate speakers. I actually have an aes with three games but my goal all alone was to get the flash cart so I may get that soon. I had an CMVS that I made that I sold to a friend. I still have an almost restored 2 slot big red machine I may sell as I don't need so many neo geo setups.
If you going emulation route don't forget about the switch and all the games they have been getting for neo geo.

I love the Neo Geo X, I'm surprised no one else was comparing the Switch to it when it was announced.
I really wish it did well so we could get another mega pack, I picked up the Mega Pack in Japan and it was well worth it. I don't feel like I need an original Neo Geo after having it and don't really bother buyingh emulated versions on consoles unless it's games that didn't come out on the x.

If more than 8 people had known about the Neo Geo X, they would have been more likely to make the comparrision.

Nope, that just happened to be where I found it, was the same release as on the website.
