I've just thrown mine in the box with the rest of them. Any expensive game I've got has been on the cheap so I treat it like one. I use them for trade bait mostly to trade for things I'd want to play
I've been doing the artwork one by one. Pain in the ass but I really like the results. Botched the New Horizons one though. And I didn't notice the Konamis were inconsistent so my OCD is gonna kill me there
I keep them in those cardboard boxes they used to come in back in the day. Even has room for the manual in there
I was gonna do that. Then I realized I'd rather have Hagane in a nice and tough case with a Metal Warriors and Mega Man X2 to boot, rathern than just Hagane in some flimsy and dented piece of paper

If I ever run out of toilet paper I have loads of paper on the shelf to pick from
I just throw a cart protector (VideoGameBoxProtectors, RetroProtection, Ebay, AliExpress, etc.) on them and put them on the shelf with everything else, mostly just to protect against some freak accident like something falling against the shelf and tearing the label. I don't personally like the big plastic cases. I feel like I'm hiding my fancy games inside of an opaque case rather than displaying them.
And, and ,and, its an old pic. I got Pocky & Rocky 2 now and everything! Earthbound i keep in the box. Also think i had loaned my cousin Mega Man x2 & 3 at the time.
At the moment, I'm still using UGCs for my SNES games. I highly recommend the Shadowfox cases, I just haven't pulled the trigger on replacing all of my cases and printing new covers. If you haven't bought cases yet, I would definitely go with the Shadowfox cases. The UGCs are a little cheaper, but the quality has gone way downhill over the past few years, and different batches will actually yield noticeably different looking cases which is annoying.
Printing covers may seem tedious, but for me it's a lot of fun and a nice little side project. Don't try to do it all at once. Space it out over a period of time and enjoy it. You can do bulk printing at some shops, but the quality can vary and some shops have issues with copyright infringement. The nice thing about printing Nintendo covers is that the percentage of available covers is much higher compared to other systems due to the higher popularity of the Nintendo name.
Every cart based game I own is in some type of custom game case.
OP is asking about expensive carts - not those dirt cheap commons
Yes, but for the purposes of uniformity, I recommend storing them the same way as all of your other games.
Unless the OP is talking about extremely valueable games that might need to be stored in a safe. If I owned a super high priced game like Stadium Events, I would probably keep it in a safety deposit box and spend the money on a nice repro to keep on dislay at home. But I'm weird like that.
I bet my Space Megaforce was just loose for a bit. Can't remember when I finally got a case for it. Stuff like Hagane, EVO, and Wild Guns I got a case as soon as they were purchased. I didn't even know Space Megaforce was an expensive game.
WTF, the thought of dust gathering on those Space Megaforce and P&R labels makes me cringe
Meh, i dunno, i just dont get too anal about stuff like this. Once they're in the collection its my game. I dont put it on the shelf thinkin oh, this shits super rare and is gonna bring in a bunch of money later om down the road. Not to say i treat em like shit. But its a snes cart, they're sturdy and can hold up to being on a shelf. They're just games!
And i have the boxes for most of these. I just prefer to leave the carts on the shelf seperate so i dont have to get into the box everytime i wanna play. Never really been into the clam shell cases.
Personally I used the snes shaped pull out drawers. Made to hold them with dust covers already on. Separated enough so no label rubbing and can still access them to play. Easily worth the money.
I use an 8 track case I got for cheap on ebay, then I put the rest in drawers.
This! I may have to try this myself. I'm only interested in certain SNES games and, unfortunately, most of those are top-shelf games. This looks fitting because I think there was as similar (Aligator skin!) case that was officially made for the NES.

One of these days I need to try Shadoxfox. Have they released the NES boxes yet?
Yes, they were released first. I have one I bought as a test, it's pretty nice, but my unlicensed cart was a tight fit
It's the Quattro Sports

I go with the custom cases as well.

That looks beautiful!
Where does one get these Shadowfox cases?
