The Case of the DS Case

Recently purchased a sealed copy of Pokemon Pearl, and when I opened it the inside of the case didn't have the storage slot for the GBA cartridge at the top.  This was bought as a replacement for a Pokemon Pearl cartridge that I lost - but I still have the case for it, and that case has the GBA slot at the top.  Does anyone know if they changed it at any point during production? I just wanna make sure I've got a legitimate copy in my hands (already been there and done that).

  • They definitely changed it over the course of the DS's life but I wouldn't know about that particular game. I know that the launch titles were pretty consistent where some consistently had an alternate version where the GBA holder looked different (every copy of Feel the Magic XY/XX, for example).

Over the DS' life they distched both launch styles and ended up with one that had no GBA holder. Now they have updates for large plastic-saving cut-outs for 3DS.
  • Yeah, it was changed. Once the DSi came out, they started to remove the GBA slot since the DSi didn't play GBA games. A lot of my games from Amazon from that point on started coming with them removed.
  • I loathe the recycling cutout of the newer style cases. Those old DS cases are so heavy they just feel like quality.

Plus if there was ever any pressure on your game (even someone holding it) would leave the damn imprints on the cover slip  .

I've also opened sealed games with a puncture in the artwork as it has no plastic backing to support. Aaaarrrrgh

Yep. DS/3DS games shipped in bubble mailers are at serious risk. Those gaps just beg for indentations and rips :/
