What game titles or game manufacturers did you pronounce wrong?

The Tengen thread got me thinking, there have been a lot of games titles and game manufacturers that I have heard people pronounce many different ways.  What are some of the titles that you said the wrong way forever and then heard someone pronounce it correctly.

For me I hear this with games like Chrono Trigger...and Secret of Mana.  I hve heard many people say "Chrono" differently...and "Mana."

I have heard people say "Taito" many ways.

What other titles have this issue and what is the right way to say them!!!???

If this has been discussed already besides in the Tengen thread, sorry I couldnt find it.

  • Ninja GAY-DUN!

Also, Ryu from Street Fighter, et al has a subtle pronunciation, like "Roo" but with a bit of Y quickly thrown in.
  • Ninja Gaiden comes to mind:

Edit: Tulpa beat me to it while I was getting the video

Edit 2: And then edits the same video into his post *shakes fist angerly*
  • Crow-no

    Man-ah (not mon-uh)

    Tie-toe (not tay-toe)

    How about Jaleco?
  • Street fighter had a couple in the game

    Ryu should be pronounced (Roo)

Blanka should have a long a not a short one
  • I swear everyone says Ikaruga differently. I always say i(f) ca(r) ru(ne) gu(t), and usually get corrected. Always in a different way.
  • Darius (from the Darius series) has a couple of pronunciations, depending on who you ask. Usually it's pronounced DARE-REE-US, but sometimes it's DAR-RYE-US (usual pronunciation of the Persian kings.)

Which makes Darius Gaiden some real Inception level stuff.
  • Jal-EEE-co   in reference to Col-eco-vis-ion

  • Infogrames

I always say "info games" in my head. Although, that's not so much because I don't know how to say it correctly, but because I simply hate that name.

Well here, I'll reply to you instead to make it better.

You know, to this day, I've never seen that movie.  I thought it looked stupid back in the day, then got curious as young adult (ie: 19-21) but never bothered to rent it.  Then, a year or two ago, got the urge to sit down and finally see it but haven't yet been able to find a copy.  It's not streaming anywhere and I don't want to see it so badly as to blow $10-15 to mail order it somewhere.  I guess it's not yet my time, lol.

  • The shooters ending in an "us" sound:

    Darius: duh-RYE-us

Gradius: grad-EE-us (Although if you want to say gruh-DYE-us to be in line with the Darius pronunciation I think that's hilarious and thus acceptable)

    Gaiares: guy-ARE-us

  • Used to say Tay-toe, now I say Tie-toe. Taito.

  • Faxanadu is a good one. Fah-zanadoo vs. Fax-anado. I think both are fine. I doubt many people called it "Fah-zanadoo" back in the day.

Ys: I say "eece" like in fleece. I've heard "Eeze" too.
  • Scheherazade, Tengen and Ristar.

What is the correct pronounciation? I've always said "Rye-Star".
  • Pokemon characters come to mind. There are so many, and people pronounce them differently. I'll say it in my head one way, then I'll hear someone else say the same thing in a different way.

It's pronoucned "Ris-star". In Japan, it's pronouced "Risuta", but the "u" is kinda silent or more or less stressed.

Helena from the Dead or Alive series of games is pronounced "Elena", as if the "H" is silent.

It's not game related, but what blew my mind is how Dr. Seuss's name is pronounced. It's actually pronounced "Zoice". 0_o

I even heard the japanese people who made the game pronounce it Zenoblade so thats good enough for me. All these Muricans and their Zeenoblade can eat it!!
