How do you pronounce "Tengen"

Just wondering since I've heard people say it a lot of different ways.  Does anyone know which is correct (for example, was it ever said in a commercial)?

Comments

  • I've always said "Ten-Ghen"

    And I'm always right.
  • Ten and gin like the liquor.
  • I've always said it exactly like Ten - Gen as in Genesis.
  • my smarter friends use the j sound so that's what I go with now.
  • I pronounce it "Atari"
  • "Ten Men".

  • Ten-ghen
  • Ten-ghen for me, but the Ten-jen people don't bother me much. If anyone wants to fight about Duh-Rye-Us, we can fight to the death.
  • Ten-Jin
  • I always said "Ghen" but I heard someone a little more knowledgable in the collector world say "Jin", so I started saying it that way.

"Rye"-star or "Rist"-uhr... same sort of debate.
  • "Gar-bage"
  • I always said "Tin Gin" until the last few years where I've seen old videos of Tengen employees saying it the other way.
  • 10gen

Sounds better with the soft g than the hard g
  • It comes from Japanese, therefore both parts rhyme with "men" and the G is a hard G like in "go."
  • I like Ten Jen, but I know it's supposed to be Ten Ghen

I've always followed the correct pronunciation like stated above
  • Hard G for me
  • Ten gen, no poll?

    Dare E us

  • I'm going to disagree with everyone. I say it like Teng--in. Similar to "tang". I guess that's a hard G like gorilla.
