How do you collect your cart games? CIB, CM, CB, or just cart?

How do you collect your cart games (SNES, NES, Genesis); complete in box, cart + manual, cart + box, or cart only?

For me it depends, Genesis I prefer CIB, SNES and NES I collect cart only. But I might start doing cart and manual for SNES, still debating about it.

  • Cart only for anything that came in cardboard boxes.  I simply refuse to collect cardboard.  Manual isn't important to me when collecting cart only.

But I really love the Sega clam shell cases.  MS/Genesis more so, less so the Sega CD/Saturn clear plastic long box type.  They look nice, but are oversized and break too easily.  Got to have them though because loose disc collecting sucks.  I wish Nintendo did plastic cases like Genesis for the N64 games.  They really could have benefit from them since smaller carts and no end labels.
  • Cart only for N64, but CIB for NES and SNES.
  • NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA - cart only

Genesis, PS1, PS2, Saturn, Sega CD, PS3, 360, PSP, DS, 3DS - CIB or CB

    In other words, no cardboard
  • Any way I can/afford to. I don't care one way or the other. Sometimes, I'll collect for both loose or complete (One to play, one to display)
  • Cart and manual for games that came with cardboard boxes, unless they're unique cardboard boxes or PC games. I like to keep them uniform so I use Shadowfox or UGC cases. Plus, it makes it cheaper!
  • I go cart only and buy UGCs to put them in. If I happen to get a manual that's cool but not a necessity.
  • Everything CIB

  • CIB - I prefer to get inserts too such as posters and unique reg cards but I don't need them to pick up a game if the price is right. I'll just pick that stuff up later. Although maps and charts for rpgs are just as important as manuals for me.
  • Cardboard boxes (Nintendo) I just go for carts. Hard cases, CIB.

Lately I've even been shunning manuals for Sega games though. Some games CIB is like a 40% price difference over CB. In general, I'd rather have more games than more CIB games at the end of the day.

You collect cardboard games CIB and cart/disc only games that come in hard cases?

  • Manual only, eh? You get to relive the nostalgia of reading the manual on the ride home and don't ruin the experience by playing the game itself. Good call.
  • It started as cart only and manuals if they were a good deal. I have since turned to CIB because they started to seem incomplete on the shelf. My N64 carts are all in UGCs and I am content with the aesthetics they provide.

    correct
  • CIB for Genesis
  • Only CIB, though I have s few loose nes carts(5?) couple CB nes/snes.
  • CIB all the way, though I don't mind having CB's here and there with the eventual goal of getting the manual.

Posters reg cards and the like are important to me but not a deal breaker if they are missing
  • For NES, SNES, 2600, 7800: cart-only (except for things I had as a kid, which demands CIB)

For 5200, INTV: cart and overlays where available

This thread was a great reminder that I have some spare paperwork to list FT

that is quite complete. If I were a CIB guy, I'd be the same way (all or nothing)

Couldn't be said better, but I do have a few exceptions.

I don't like cardboard (as stated) so I'll prefer just a cart if a game for Genesis came out in a cardboard box only.  Also, there are some games that were part of my quintessential childhood.  I don't mind having a CIB (or even factory sealed) version of these items. If I see an auction for games that I'm interested in and they come with all of the manuals for only a few bucks more, or even the boxes for a price way under their combined value, I'll gladly pay a little extra for the paper.  My intent is to eventually sell or trade the IB material but so far I've not had the guts to do it.  The few sealed or CIB items that I have, I kind of like on my shelf. Still, that's less than 5% of my collection.
  • Whatever makes me look the coolest on youtube
  • CIB/NIB/StickerSealed/CellofaneSealed = only with rare/expensive or childhood favorites

otherwise just loose NES/SNES and or GB carts
  • Cart only, no boxes. If I have a manual great, if not it's ok. I put my popular/ valuable/ favourite games in UGCs and the rest are all in cart protectors since it looks sharp
  • SNES/GBA - cart only

    N64 - cart + manual (w/ some boxes)

DS/3DS/Switch/all disc based games - CIB

Only 9. Still looking for my 10th. I was thinking about selling them all and starting a fidget spinner collection though

    Exactly the opposite of Gloves

  • I'm cart only for everything, but I always end up hanging onto boxes and manuals for games that I plan on keeping. This is most particular to NES. I say I'm not collecting instructions and boxes, but more like acquiring them by chance. So I have 700+ NES carts, but maybe 150ish manuals and 100ish boxes.
