Anyone know about valuing old booze?

So we're cleaning out my wife's grandparents ancient old place. Seriously, filthy, gross and full to the brim with old junk. (Before anyone asks, no, I did not stumble onto a shipping crate of sealed SE!) in fact barely anything electronic whatsoever apart from a few manky old appliances.

Anyway, as with most old Taiwanese folks they got a bunch of old booze bottles here no one ever drank, and I was wondering if I should just bin them or if they might be worth something? I know there are like legendary bottles of wine and brandy and such, so thought I might check. Any help would be appreciated!

P.s. Also a huge stack of hundreds of Time magazines in great condition, but all from late 90s to early 2000s. Probably not worth anything, but if anyone wants them let me know and we can sort something out.

  • I see some good brands in there. Pretty cool stuff. Can't help you with price though, sorry!
  • I'm unable to help with valuation, but I would never toss old alcohol! There is always value in old liquors kept in sanitary condition, I would never bet on wine however since it can be temperamental but also a huge market for vintage bottles.
  • You found these in Taiwan, or back in the UK? I have no idea on value either, but if you are thinking about trashing them (and are in Taiwan), then I'd be interested. I'm not sure I'd pay a lot, but I used to brew and make homemade wine back in the States, so I have an interest in this sort of thing.

Here in Taiwan. If I can't get any info on the value, then perhaps I will hold these to ransom as a meeting gift for when we FINALLY meet up, lol!
  • You've got some good items there. It can be hard to put a value on these, but the Remi / cognacs will probably get a decent return. I'd be interested in the glenfiddich myself!

Do any have their dates on them?
  • Depends of these where standing up or lying down, if it's the last you can probably trow them out.
  • It's normal off-the-shelf liquor, but I'm sure you can sell them to an expat there for a discount off market value. If I were there, I'd crack open that bottle of Armagnac, I love that stuff.
  • They were all standing up, I think, apart from maybe the two in the boxes. They are all unopened and sealed, but they look gross... I think the only way to find out if any were actually drinkable would be to crack them open, poor out a glass and pray!

I'm going back to the old house today, so I'll look for dates etc. and bring em back with me when I leave. BTW is it legal to send booze in the post? I guess none of this stuff is THAT valuable, but if anyone wants any of these then let me know and I'll do ya a good price!

P.S. No takers on the Time magazines then? Fake news!
  • Have a party!   that Henny XO is tasty! I bet it'd be even better aged a while like it is!
